This is my take on classic ukiyo-e printmaking using lino.
For me the journey is more satisfying than the end result, thats why there are so many unnecessary steps in this video and feels like it's hard to follow.
I started this project in the summer of 2019 and found myself putting it to the side, because of the large amount of work. But being in lockdown 2020, I managed to finished it.
This is an experimental print for me, and when I started I had no idea how long it will take or how I will be able to make a print out of this, but I'm super happy with the outcome.
Music is by one of my favorite bands - Grails. All songs are from one album - Chalice Hymnal.
Prints currently are not available, but hopefully will make a limited run of 10 or 20.

God, I spent this entire video either holding my breath or just sighing softly, going "oh my goodness that's gorgeous". This process was such a pleasure to watch and I'm so glad that you got round to finishing this piece ☺️ Your work always inspires me to be a better artist and also to someday experiment with lino! the most important skills in this are patience and perseverance. I'm tracing a lino block 20 times smaller than this and I'm thinking of giving up already after 2 hours. he's a master at cutting, yes but mostly at keeping it going. his work ethic is outstanding

I rarely ever comment on video's. But this was just so, so incredible to watch. Absolutely loved the process. I can't even imagine how many hours went into this. Everytime I watch your video's they really push me as a graphic designer to get away from my screens more often. It's really easy to just get sucked up into the digital ways of working. Thank you for that.

This bring back so much memories. Back in 90s when I was still in junior high school, I used to made custom stamp using erasers and razor blade, the process is very similar with this. I just found out "lino cutting" is the official name for that kind of crafting recently because at that time that idea feels like came by itself. This video needs more viewer and likes, thank you for sharing this!

I've recently taken up linocutting, and this channel has seen me wallowing in a torturous wellspring of self-loathing, and, equally, peering at a far-off zenith I hope to climb my way up to. What utter mastery. These techniques must have taken years to develop. I can't fathom the patience it must require to perform single steps of this process - redesigning time and again, laying out the printed pieces, continuously carving away HUGE sections of the blocks to reveal the tiniest gradated details. What a gift your work is. When I am able to, I hope to buy your work and support it in my own small way!

A fantastic work. I've been getting into linocuts again as it wad something I did a lot in high-school for a project and I only ever did 4 prints but yours was amazing. Watching you I think i have learned some new techniques so I can make cleaner cuts without having too much ink on the cut parts and staining my prints with unintentional lines

Wow! I just started a diploma of visual arts and our first task is a lino print. I'm a pastel artist mostly so I blend all day until my heart is content. The clean lines and high contrast really intimidated me at first and I thought I would hate print making but from the very first class I'm obsessed! I can't wait to get my materials and get started its all I've been thinking about since last tuesday’s intro! Your work is incredible! So inspiring. How exciting!

Absolutely fabulous work! I am inspired to try some of your techniques in my own work. I haven't seen this method of registration before but it makes a whole lot of sense. I'm often frustrated when my registration goes awry on reduction prints and when you've used expensive paper and lots of ink then it feels like such a waste and not to mention disappointing when you have a lot of duds. Using masking tape to make sure it stays put and lines up is great - I'm going to give it a go. Thanks!
