The role should have gone to an actual Irish woman. Her accent is so bad and genuinely offensive. Anyone who knows Irish history understands why an English woman playing a caricature of an Irish woman is so offensive.

@@liadhnifhalluin7665 She played one single character, a unique person unlike any other in the world. I think that anyone watching the complete film would not assume she represents Irish women in general. She is transcendent in the role and no one would conclude that she is a typical Irish woman. It's obvious that she is a unique character with her fantasy derived from her father's talk with her. The other female characters in the movie are nothing like the one she plays.

The twist in this film was utterly bizarre. What happened that they thought that was needed?! Lol.

Because it made the movie much more meaningful It was a part of the overall message. That many people have eccentricities, passions and feelings. And, it explains how his character was stymied, for years, with lack of confidence that a woman would understand and accept him. And, it showed how people can still find love with someone who accepts them with their eccentricities and oddities. It was a very powerful message and gave the film a lot more depth.

Sleeping with the Enemy-shows how you can gain enough courage to learn how to swim in the ocean, when you have genuine fear of it, to fake your own death (not sure I could, but...)
