We saved you in World War Two? As a Canadian referencing BOTH World Wars, we all showed up on time. The Americans wandered in late but took all of the credit. Had the rest of us not been there … on time … there would not have been anything left to save. Contribution? Yes. But taking sole credit? Not so much. This is, unfortunately for me, a major historical vexation. On a lighter note, Emily Blunt is a treasure.

Well, a Sunday roast is our English tradition (delicious one) and so perhaps it’s too much for some other people to appreciate cause it’s what we all grew up on, a dinner that almost all the family can agree on. Plus it’s our way of having a miniature feast. There is a lot more that goes into our Christmas Dinners but how much of a miserable time we’d have if we didn’t have a Sunday Roast. Makes Sundays the best before Monday comes. 🥰

@Mark valentine I have a genuine doubt Please do answer Are you people even aware or taught in school about your country's colonial history ?
@piggybakkers2 жыл бұрын
@@ananthkrishnakp1770 To whom are you referring to as "you people?" Are you attempting to compartmentalize the disparate, multicultural British people as a singular? Are you questioning my expression of admiration for Emily Blunts observational, tongue in cheek portrayal of British accent and values? Are you attempting to demean my praise of Emily when she argues the nuances of the American bastardisasion of the English language with Americans? I am also cognisant of the derivation of the diverse origins of the language. I'm 62 and went to school in the 60/70s and no in my school we weren't really educated about colonialism but they were very different times. I cannot speak on the current school curriculum. You ask if we "people" are aware of British colonial history. Well, I lived for 12 years in Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodesia so I am more than aware of the rights and wrongs of colonial practice. So your message appears to suggest that a British lady on a youtube video, extolling the virtues of trying to retain a semblance of originality to the vernacular that I personally am proud of Is an indication that you consider the collective British people en-masse are ignorant of the current day, right and proper attitudes toward our history? You can't erase history but you can learn from it. Anyone who conflates the content of this video with colonial history is clutching at straws. We have many problems and issues in this country with racism and history. I personally am well aware of them and don't feel this is the platform to explore them. So what's your point?

@Curiouser11 If that is the reason, she made the most epic blunder of her life. Image her doing an evening of bar-work in Thailand and getting paid, the IRS will chase her till the end of time for their cut. Boris Johnson sold a house in the U.K bought with money earned there. When he sold the house the IRS pursued him for a slice.

Currently in a food coma from an impromptu ‘Monday roast’ at our house. Just as Emily said it went on all afternoon and was devoured at 6pm. Then came the depressing mound of dishes to wash afterwards. Will still do it all again next week 👍🏼

Should be devoured about 2pm followed by leisurely country walk and back for tea.

I used to work at a MicroCenter. One time I was helping a guy with hard drives. Not only did he have a British accent but he had a BALL CAP with a Union Jack on it and his phone background was Winston Churchill. Most British guy I ever met.

The Sunday roast! As an expat I had no idea it had cultural significance until Emily brought it up, and now I realize how much I have missed it! 🥲 (The whole family sitting around the table, with scarcely a care in the world, ready to eat roast lamb, potatoes and turnip with mint sauce, green beans, Yorkshire pudding and gravy and the radio tuned in to 'Gardener's Question Time' on the BBC. I didn't realize at the time of course, but looking back it was like heaven...)

The unique time that you have a family moment and not all sundays . I live in London, I am Spanish and you don't have the same dining habits that we have. We are always together, everyday at least once a day. And we sit on a table to eat , mot stand up.

I love Americans and they are truly some of the most polite people on earth and very welcoming. They are just a bit too loud for british sensibilities but then so are some brits especially those from Essex. I guess we Brits would be too loud for the Japanese. It’s just differences we can wind each other up about which is called ‘taking the p’. You ought to hear what the Aussies say about the English.

Essex bloke here. We just tell Americans that we’re the equivalent of New Jersey and they get it straight away.
