What a lovely idea. It is very similar to the crochet one. I have just tried it and it is great! Because you have the circle to start, no twist in the stitches when starting the circular knitting either. Thank you so much.

For those of you asking what this shawl is, I do believe it is the Feather and Fan Shawl in the Gathering of Lace by Meg Swansen.

if your a crocheter this it so easy..... it like your doing The Magic Adjustable Ring but after you cast on you change to needles. But the video was easy to follow.... Thank you

Thanks Kelly, Excellent clear instructions! I had my eye on those directions in the book, but not tried to fathom it out yet. Always wanted to knit a shawl - so now I know how to start one! Thanks - Bye for now! Amanda

Oh my gosh - genius!! I once spent a flight from NYC to Kansas City attempting to figure out that cast-on, and eventually gave up because I couldn't figure it out. It makes total sense now, and I feel well armed to start my first Pi Shawl! Thank you, thank you!

I think there is some very good instruction here, but part of the video was above the viewable area or focusing on the book not the knitting. Otherwise, kind of helpful.

Thanks Kelley, great instructional video. Usually I like to get right on to the lesson, but I enjoyed hearing the background info you provided. Loved your shawl - it is beautiful!!

Thank you for your concise explanation and demonstration. I'm helping a designer with a test-knit and the pattern is pretty loose right now. I've been looking for alternate methods of closing my loop and this looks great. Thanks so much!

I'm pretty sure you do a yo the same way. I believe the Hemlock Ring starts with a yo. Are you worried it will fall off the dpns? I started Hemlock on dpns and had no problem with the yo. Also, the yo will depend on whether you're working a knit st or purl st. Hope that helps.

This is great and well-explained. However, it is almost impossible to tighten up those crocheted stitches, so I loop the thread over, as in knit one purl one in the same stitch many times over, then I was able to adjust everything and equalize them. I love being able to pull the tail to tighten it all up. Also, I am left-handed, so it took a bit to think in opposites .... Glad to see this done - thank you!

I hate to be the naysayer- but I find this hard to follow! After you make the loop it kind of gets lost in your fingers and I can't tell where it's shifted too or how you're holding it. Also, I think it would be helpful if you could show the beginning more than once, maybe from a different angle? Also, would be helpful to see what it's supposed to look like more clearly before you move it on to the magic loop. Thanks for the help!

A bit incorrect video instructions for cast on - you need to wrap around end of yarn too. Now your end of yarn is on right and barely holds. Check diagram in your book where end is. It is on left and goes below single crochet stitches.

How do you do a yo in the round? If the first steps is a yo I'm sure there is a simple answer, but I'm stumped :(
@eviehammond963812 жыл бұрын
Constructive comments: 1) the yarn is too much the same color as the crochet hook, so it makes it harder to see what is being done; 2) focusing the camera seems to be a problem, which makes it confusing; 3) when the "magic loop" is being explained, he needles are out of frame! So, no help there. Well meant, but a waste of time.
