Pinhole Cast On Tutorial | Musselburgh Hat Cast On

This video is a tutorial on how to do the pinhole cast on, which is a popular method for getting a Musselburgh Hat started. The Musselburgh Hat is a very popular knit pattern by Ysolda Teague. While I show you how to get started with this cast on, I do not go into any details on the pattern for the Musselburgh Hat. Please follow whatever pattern you’re using this cast on for.
*Please note that I do not recommend this cast on for beginner knitters. It is still a challenge for me, even after years of doing it!

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
DPNs - Chiaogoo US 7/4.5 mm (we start with using only 4 and then eventually change to 5)
2 different stitch markers (with one being a locking marker)

I loved the video. So clear and precise!! You are a very good teacher. I am self taught and I remember getting frustrated with it and would throw it across the room...then go pick it up and start over again! It takes practice. I am not the best knitter just try and try over and over and over until I get it.

Thank you so much! I’m so glad the video was helpful. I struggle with this cast on all the time. It’s a real doozy! 😜 It gets easier after doing it a bunch of times, but it’s still difficult for sure. 😝 I love how tight it gets the hole in the center, though!

It feels easier to keep it super simple to get the gist of this thing, doesn’t it?! Especially before starting the Musselburgh hat pattern. Going through the steps and solidifying the idea in my brain before beginning the pattern made a big difference for me to understand what in the world was going on with this cast on. 🤣
