I remember this hitting me in a special way when I heard this in middle school. My mom is an abusive alcoholic and my dad was gone a lot. My Mom is still an alcoholic. It’s sad how people can get stuck in decades of addiction. She used to call me a worthless piece of shit almost everyday, for my sister it was stupid slut. I never finished college and was on drugs through my teens into my late 20s. I’ve lived a crazy life, ended up being homeless for awhile. I should be dead, but I just started to get my life together in my 30s. I didn’t realize how much power my parents opinions and words had in my life until I was older. For anyone out there who feels like giving up, feels worthless, or feels like a waste of life, you aren’t. You can always change things.

Growing up with a dysfunctional mother, this song hit home for me! We always hear about respecting your parents and people always glorify their mothers above all but to hear someone express their trauma from their mother was so refreshing and relatable to me as a teenager. This is why, in my opinion, Eminem is the greatest rapper ever.

The phrase "Cleaning out my closet" is saying that he is tired of keeping the truth about his past inside, and he wants to let everyone know about the things that happened in his childhood.

I went to a school where I had a crappy teacher, only a few good classmates and the counselor thought I was depressed. The teacher discriminated against me, she would treat me a way she wouldn't treat other students and her class was overall torture. I had a classmate who would steal my stuff, one that could've gave me brain damage on "accident," and one that would say "who asked" and "nobody cares" to anything anyone said. And I also had a drawing book that the teacher took and the counselor also saw my drawings, later the counselor interviewed me and brought my parents to discuss me supposedly being "depressed." This song makes me imagine myself in Eminem's perspective
