Honest opinion on Eminem: Incredible rhymer, great world play (even sometimes he can be corny), has some incredible fast flows, but hes lacking in delivery and content these days. So when I hear him this is honestly what i think. “Yeah you can rhyme amazingly and rap fast....but what are you actually saying and stop being so angry it comes off corny”

As a long time Eminem fan, I think this was a good analysis. Em's skills are obviously still there (and obviously still vastly superior to the majority of rappers), but like you say at the end, his current style of delivery and overall angry tone gets a little grating. I think it really stems from the fact that Em is so very angry at the current state of (popular) hip-hop that he can't help but show it in his raps. He feels like a craft and culture that he's grown to love so much is being distorted, and even more boldly stated, bastardized, to such a harsh extent these days especially in the mainstream scene that he just comes off as chaotically angry all the time both in terms of tone and focus. If he just finds a slightly more grounded, or at least more interesting/humorous way to express those ideas COMBINED with his absolutely inhuman way of putting bars and rhymes together, I think he'd be unstoppable

I listened to Slim Shady LP yesterday and it reminded me how great Em was. You're 100% on point about how annoying his delivery is. It really does butcher his funnier and more intelligent lines when he has to SHOUT THEM with a MEAN FACE. Like on the song Role Model on SSLP he has some ridiculous lines but they work because of how zany and silly his delivery was, for example, "Some people only see that I'm white, ignoring skill, cuz I stand out like a green hat with an orange bill, But I don't get pissed, y'all don't even see through the mist, how the fuck can I be white? I don't even exist." That part is so fucking retarded but it works because of how zany he was acting throughout the song. i'm with you on the lack of change of tone in em's modern work. His old stuff had a humor to it, and at any point he'd throw in a funny line. what em said about not feeling like he can do any right really shows. It feels like he don't have a clear direction anymore, and he troubled about this, but we don't hear it in his music sadly.

Fantano, I appreciate you giving an honest and objective review of this freestyle. I'm an Eminem fan but you communicated what I was thinking in a lot of places when I heard certain bars. His body language like he's doing poetry and the pauses for editing really took me out of it. His legacy can't be taken away but as for what he delivers sometimes the novelty has worn off.

honestly he has taken himself so seriously so long it kinda broke his brain? the writing & wordplay & delivery are all amazing in a mechanical sense. He treats it like a sport and not an art, or something. I would trade some mechanics for some art with Em.
