The issue with the exhaust clamps. Been a master diesel, alternate fuels, hybrid and electric drive tech for a long time. Most of the high end band clamps come with tin foil all round up like a cigarette. It is supposed to go where the two ends meet. BUT that's not how we do it here at the shop. We buy a big roll of good quality tin foil. Pull off enough to wrap around the pipe At least one and a half times with the over all covering where the ends meet. fold it in half lengthy wise and keep doubling it over until it is as wide as the clamp. It is a bit more work to bring the ends together, but just keep alternating back and forth and bring them down evenly. Will last for years and hardly any corrosion on the pipes.

Great video Brandon and nicely done. I always wanted a Touareg TDI but ended up buying a low km’s(140,000) 2013 Q7 S-line instead and I absolutely love the beast. It has 172,000km now and has been very reliable. Actually all my emission systems still work 100% and my oil cooler still doesn’t leak coolant. I did buy all the parts to re-seal the cooler gaskets/o-rings/flange and bypass valve when the time comes eventually. Also purchased the DPF delete mid pipe and Malone stage 1, because I tow 14’ enclosed with it and they recommended to go with stage 1 for that reason. My question is about the EGR cooler. I am also in Canada and I obviously don’t have an auxiliary diesel heater on a Q7 unlike the Touareg. The Q7 runs very cold in winter months as it is in stock form, especially in the city driving and I am very hesitant about deleting the EGR cooler for that reason. It drops coolant temps when idling in -30 temps and actually smells terrible in short traffic stops too. And that is in factory form with everything working right. So, is there a way to keep the EGR cooler operational for higher coolant temps and delete everything else? Perhaps you asked that with Malone customer service or came across interesting information in your own research. That is actually the biggest reason I haven’t deleted anything yet is because I am stuck in my decision between deleting the EGR cooler vs. Not deleting the EGR cooler on my CNRB. Any and all information on that would be appreciated.

Yes I was hesitant to remove the cooler but only did it for reliability sake. I wanted it out because I heard some owners had issues with them internally cracking and leaking coolant that would get sucked into the engine, and destroying the engine. This seems to be isolated to the earlier 3.0L TDI’s, but I didn’t want to chance it. My warmup times are not really affected in frigid weather. It’s heat retention that’s an ‘issue’. It will drop coolant temp very fast under low load or idling. City driving in -20 or colder, and you’ll never see 70 degrees Celsius coolant temp. With the aux heater, it makes no difference to me. It kicks off after 70 degrees, and kicks on below that. I’m surprised that the Q7 doesn’t have it. You may want to double check that, because I was always under the impression they had it like the touareg(and I believe, the cayenne). If in fact you don’t have it, and you’re not having any problems, I’d leave the cooler in. You will have a similar-to-stock warmup experience. The EGR cooler is always open for exhaust gas to enter it, so the coolant that goes inside is always heated by exhaust gas. So it will warmup quicker than mine does for sure. So if I were you, leave it in. You shouldn’t notice much of a warmup difference. Keep in mind as well, being deleted, these engines use very little fuel idling or at low speed when deleted and tuned. When idling on a stock 3.0L, you should notice around 0.9-1.1l/hour consumption. Deleted, mine uses 0.6l/hour. So that’s even LESS heat being generated.

Nice video, well explained. I have done 4 of these deletes, I can’t believe the lack of rust on the bolts for the DPF. I need to do the EGR next, I think I will wait until it leaks.

So you kept the EGR cooler on your deletes? This is kind of along the way I was thinking, as my Q7 runs super cold in the cold winter months, even in factory form with all emissions working properly still. Do you mind sharing the exact set up you used for your deletes?
@jackhickerson3022
@jackhickerson3022 3 ай бұрын
They do run cold in the winter for sure. I did DPF EGR and add blue delete from Malone Tuning. Used the Rawtek pipes. The EGR and add blue were deleted via the tune. Physically they are still in the car.

@@jackhickerson3022 I was looking at the rawtek/malone delete for the Touareg, like I had done to my Golf. If the EGR is left intact, does the tune just force it to stay closed all the time, so the exhaust gases just go directly from the manifold to the turbo?

@@cbenediccengi That is my understanding. I am not 100% on exactly where things go but the EGR is electronically deleted. Runs SO much better!!

or just put a hose clamp on the mounting rod on the end that goes thru the rubber mount to keep it from potentially sliding out

~10:23 with the flared end comment, isnt the sleeve with set screw BEHIND the rubber mount supposed to be on the end of the mount on the other side of the rubber hanger to prevent it from pulling thru the rubber mount?

I’m thinking about doing the delete to my Touareg as well, was there a noticeable improvement in the exhaust sound and did you get any drone in the cabin while driving.

Awesome job. I am planning to get this done soon on my q7. Do you ever get some oil leak in between gearbox and engine by any chance?
@brandonfriesen5389
@brandonfriesen5389 4 ай бұрын
I don’t have one but rear main seal failures are common on the 3.0tdi. Check to make sure it’s not the upper timing covers before you get that repaired. I had an upper timing cover leak and it was an easy job but the oil went down between the engine and transmission and it looked like a rear main seal leak.
