I'm in community college right now hoping to become a pharmacist eventually. I have a VERY long way to go, and do get pretty discouraged at times, but I really believe Pharmacy is for me. Your videos about school, and now this one, kind of help me destress. For that alone, I am grateful for your advice & insight ☺️

Awesome Video! I was a nursing major because I wanted to be in the healthcare field but like you I really didn't want to get my hands dirty but I still stayed on that path. I worked as a cashier at a retail store and decided that being a pharmacy tech could be a smart choice because I would have to know different medicines as a nurse so I applied to be moved into the pharmacy and it was the best thing that has ever happened to me as far as my schooling and career path goes. I quickly fell in love with the job and caught myself wanting to learn more and more about drugs and how they work in the body to help people. My problem was that I wanted to be a pharmacist so bad but I didn't feel like it was possible because of different situations in my life. Luckily I have a great wife that reminds me every single day that I can become a pharmacist and that I am not excluded. So I have changed my major and my pharmacist I work with and my parents all support me everyday and tell me that I will make a great pharmacist. So that is my story but I just wanted to say thank you for these videos. You are truly an inspiration to me and I would love to learn more about your experiences in pharmacy school. You have totally gained a subscriber here! Thank you!

I'm not in the US so it is interesting to hear what pharmacy shifts are like. I've been a tech for almost 9 years and do 9-6 mon-fri. I wish we had shifts where hours are like yours. I usually have to fit in as much as I can at weekends and holidays to get things done.

I'm so glad I found your channel! You put the retail setting in a positive light, which made me think twice that it isn't bad at all to work in that area. I hope all the pharmacists think that way, so they won't have to lash out on you every friggin time lol. I guess, they're just stressed out because they always have the final say and they will be reliable for whatever happens in the pharmacy.

Totally understand when you said working in the real world after grad school is tough in the beginning. Though I don't work in the pharmacy field, I work in psychiatry. I can admit that when I first started doing real clinical work it was tough 'cause it's so diff from school. I'm glad to hear you are liking your job. Oh and I agree. The whole 9-5 hrs suck. I started w/ that the first 6 months at my current job and it was torture given the commute and traffic. So I work diff hours now. Either start early and end early or start late and end late. Still not an early bird, but it still beats the 9-5 work hours. Thanks for sharing!

I thought I would feel much better after completing all my didactic courses but I still don't know what I want to do with my degree. I came across your video about getting into pharmacy school last summer when I made the decision to change careers. I was pursuing a masters in psychology but I decided to switch because doctorate programs are ridiculously competitive (more than medical school) and I've worked in pharmacy for 5 years. I got so excited when I saw this in my feed and I love the advice you give. But I do have one question, what made you decide to go to the pharmacy school you went to? I'm school shopping right now and it's so hard to discern which schools may be the best for me apply to. Thanks so much and congratulations on all your successes!

Thank you so much!! I decided on my school bc I applied late. I was just applying to try it out but didn't plan on getting into a school just yet. Hi, I'm currently a p4 on rotations, and I'm actually at a retail store now and I like it for some of the reasons you mentioned in this video, however I am sooooooo overwhelmingly terrified when it comes to over the counter medication counseling... I feel that its just so much out there that you have to consider before recommending a product and its a lot of pressure to answer a question on your feet...how did you overcome this starting off?
@didiash
@didiash 7 жыл бұрын
just have atleast two medications you memorize for each condition so when asked what you prefer you have a recommendation. Also group them according to seasons e.g this summer most people coming in for sunscreen or bug bite medicines then fall or flu season you know your fav 2 products

Hello. Thank you for your tip and reaching out to the community. I would be taking the Boards hopefully this coming January 2018. Also, I graduated from pharmacy school in 1998 but stopped practicing for over 8 years due to raising kids. Would you recommend anything different since I am not a recent grad? I think employers need to start scrutinizing over a graduate's experiences and school quality and not hire people who graduated from those pop-up schools with little to almost no pharmacy experience. The field is highly saturated, and it boggles my mind that nearly half or more of students never worked in a pharmacy and some never worked in their life.

Do you work for CVS in Target? CVS makes you keep track of your customers and call them to check on them. I find it kind of creepy, I was like "Thanks... for remembering me?" Lol 😂 would you ever want to move to another state?

If you are considering pharmacy, reconsider. With so many pharmacy schools opened and opening there is saturation. Coupled that with chains like CVS and Walgreens destroying the profession with their bottom line attitude.
