This was her singing for like 2 seconds 😂 she's not bad but idk maybe they didn't think she was Disney Princess/ musical theatre good so they messed it up with autotune. It is kinda a disadvantage to have a contemporary voice when you are trying to play a princess.

Since they did autotune her, they stripped any vocal nuance she gave Belle. I want to see a complete solo of her singing. I believe she said in an interview that she actually did have to prepare her voice since, of course, being the lead is extremely demanding of the actor's/actress's voice. But, alas, the Disney exects mostly wanted her for her fame and her real-life interest in literature. In the original film, you can hear Paige O' Hara smile and you can hear the expressions she makes while she sings. Emma could've done that with proper practice if Disney allowed her to.

Because there are people at Disney that they want everything perfect. Everything perfect means we can't handle because we notice it, since nothing can be perfect or it will sound odd.

Clarification: I've always been a defender of Emma when it came to her singing since it was confirmed that she had to send audition tapes of her singing to Bill Condon in order to get cast. However, since nobody's heard those tapes or heard her sing on-video without the possibility of voice editing, I didn't really know so I didn't fully come out and say she could sing. That doesn't matter anymore though since this video proves that she can sing...clearly production executives just fucked up in post.

Actually the scene in Paris in the film is her singing live,the cast sang live onset during the musical scenes,they had hidden microphones and as Luke and Josh have described it Nobody lipsynced because lip syncing changes how u perform,it changes your movements,how u breathe and everything in the moment so it was live singing and once filming was over some scenes included the live singing and others included the soundtrack version being matched to their lips,but for Emma the "How Does a Moment Last Forever reprise" is a live vocal.

They did use a slight touch of autotune with Dan on "Evermore" too,but that was to keep the beastly voice,they used it on the lower notes and Emma sounds pretty in the Paris scene when she sang so yes she didn't need studio help.

@@briellejade._ Yes but they autotuned it so badly she sounds robotic. Of course it's going to be edited and fixed up, but actually editors rarely use autotune, they use pitch correction, and fix notes that go off key and just fix little mistakes, instead of putting on a filter that mutates every note to make it sound robotic. It sounds good if it's very light, but it's usually used for an effect, like they purposefully want it to sound robotic.

Yes, she can clearly sing. But you guys do know that auto tune doesn't just make you sound perfect if you're tone deaf as fuck???? It's not magic. You have to be at least somewhat close to the actual notes or you're gonna sound like a complete robot.....so we already knew she could sing AND yes they edited her voice way too much but it still sounds good no matter what :)

I’m rewatching this movie now. This is the only clip I have heard with her singing no auto tune. I would have been fine had they cast her as the actor and another person as the vocalist. That’s what all the animated movies do anyway. Rarely did they have the same vocalist and voice actor. No one else in the movie was auto tuned so much. I think that’s why Disney also wanted to cast Halle as Ariel. At least she is a singer and hopefully will be a strong actor in that case. I think for a musical, both skills should be pretty equal. I really wish I could have seen this movie with Emma’s brilliant acting and a stronger singer.

Everyone in these comments are saying Emma can sing because they have a subconscious bias in her favor... but honestly she's not very good 😞 Her not being completely tone deaf doesn't mean she is a good singer. I wish they dubbed her with an actual trained singer, then the scenes which rely on the singing wouldn't be cold and robotic and lifeless.
