I just want to let you know that after this quarantine I decided to do pick up watercolor with absolutely no artistic background ever. And you have taught me so much. So much about not taking the art and mistakes to seriously. So much about understand how watercolor moves and works. So much about composition. So much about colors. So much about loose art versus realistic art. So much about shadows and highlights. So much about drawing even which is the scariest thing about watercolor to me and I refused to do it. I have learned everything I know just from your videos and I look forward to every video you put out. I’ve seen just about every video you’ve posted even if I had no interest in painting houses maybe you did something that taught me something new. I cannot thank you enough. It’s weird how much you’ve influenced my life as a stranger and not talking to me directly. Thank you thank you thank you.

Making color mix charts is a very therapeutic activity. It's also a great reference tool to have on hand when choosing which colors to use in your paintings. I do label mine with which colors I used, always listing the base color first, followed by the color(s) I added, with a plus sign (+) between.

Actually I find this watercolor set pretty pigmented. I'm sure you can make amazing paintings with this as long as you have a decent paper.

Hi - I was just wondering what do you do with the white color in the palette? What is it intended for?

@@josims6173 You won't use it most of the times. Except maybe if you want to add a "milky" touch, like for a ghost or smoke but that's about it. As I said in reply to another comment, white in watercolor is created by leaving the paper unpainted...

You can mix a bit of white into the colors to create a patel shade.

Does anyone know how to darken a brown other than adding in black? Brown and black works, but it is not always the most natural tone I am looking for.

Try adding a dark purple and yellow. The darkness from the purple will darken it and the yellow will keep it brown rather than a purple tint.

In watercolor, you usually don't use white paint. White is created using the white of the paper. So if you want a part to be white, all you have to do is to leave it white. If you want a part to be of a lighter value, just add less pigment. And so on. If you want to lighten a part when it's already dry, you can try to lift some paint (some papers are good for this technique, others aren't). You can also add white gouache or ink when the paper is dry to highlight some parts. Hope this helped ☺️

You can mix white into any of the other colors to create a pastel version of that color. There is nothing wrong about using white in colir mixing if you like the end result.
