Ohhh! I read that scene with a Victorian London street ambiance. There were crows in the background, and was so absorbed in it that when I came to where the monster is first created and opens his eyes, the crows cawed and gave me quite the fright!

Comparative literature or syntopic reading, is one of the highest forms writing you can do. You can read two works and then discuss a completely new, original idea that isn’t explicitly stated or even found in either book. It’s beautiful

It is no loss to be so absorbed in writing that you forget yourself, a happy creative state that many people never experience. Willing absorption in study does not erase the self, it frees you from anxiety about the future. *The great evil is not work,* said Bernard Shaw, *it is low-paid drudgery.* Exercise, hang out with friends, rest one/two days a week.

The first five minutes is exactly my life right now: I feel like I'm at war with myself, at war with my classes; and at war with my job. We all need breaks though to retreat, relax, and refresh. I hope you're doing well, love the video's. And remember it does make us all feel alone when we're in it, but realizing we're never alone when hearing someone else talk about it. Thanks.

This is like a time travel 3-2 years back. Watching this, I can relate to it very much and it's still a miracle to me how I finally managed to finish my B.A. thesis. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done (not the task itself, but my mind keeping me from actually doing it). But I'm really relieved that I didn't give up. Btw thanks for showing the squirrel. I love your videos so much

It's amazing you can feel so passionate and put yourself into some of your essays like that. So often in school I would procrastinate so long I'd be forced to just spit out one that just checks all the boxes. It's great when you can get in the flow and lose yourself in it.

I commented previously about a big paper I was writing combining 5 different texts. It ended up being double the estimated word count and the only feedback I got on it was a grade and the sentence "Be more concise." I had a mountain of self doubt about each paragraph while simultaneously feeling like I may have written something truly worth reading. In the end, the paper amounted to little more than another solid grade in the books, but the process of writing it felt like my entire voice depended on it. I really like what you said about losing your sense of self when hyper-fixating on your writing. I feel like sometimes I identify my self worth with the value of the writing I'm creating and it can lead to me being extremely attached to the prose until I get shaken back down to my body, so to speak. The fear of losing that flow state keeps me from noticing when its affecting my self care. It feels like an alternating dance of hyper-fixation and impassioned writing spinning in time with self doubt and relentless perfectionism, but perhaps not so dramatic as that. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience and sorry about the cinnamon rolls!

I recently wrote a paper on Frankenstein about Victor's (I would argue) literal addiction to creating and destroying the creature. The language blew my mind because I could easily replace references to the creature with any drug/substance associated words in basically every quote! (specifically in Chapter 4) Anyway I read Frankenstein for the first time at the beginning of this year for my Gothic class and it was amazinggg! I love the creature so much 🥺

I should definitely keep doing school work right now but I'd very much rather watch this. How fitting that Emma being done her essay would distract me from finishing mine. 😂 That probably says a lot about our respective working patterns. Also I have another essay to start right after this one, and funnily enough it is completely about "the religion and politics of the day" as you put it (specifically I'm dealing with the late Victorian period) and yet I am absolutely looking forward to squeezing my heart and soul out into it because I dunno I guess I'm a bit deranged

It's middle of my exam time and yesterday i finished one, but almost couldn't feel the joy, because tomorrow is another big exam and i just had to dive into papers filled with texts. It doesn't feel necessarily bad, but just as you said almost as if i faded away a bit and all my interests and joys as well. Anyways, I'm trying to read along with my studies, reading one or two chapters as a break and playing with my dog, spending time in our vegetable garden. All that helps, along with your videos that bring so much comfort, peace and just simple check in that all of these feelings are normal :)

I think what you're talking about when you said about 'losing yourself' in the act of essay writing is 'flow' - the kind of loss of personal identity you get when running sometimes or gaming intensely. It's almost a Zen like feeling - almost an act of meditation. Personally I REALLY like it. It's not something that happens all too often so enjoy it while its happening (or probably the memory of it once its gone as you probably can't enjoy it at the time because "you" aren't really there TO experience it).

You described a sense of the writing 'having replaced you', of having lost your sense of self in the process. That exact feeling is what the ancient poets were talking about when they invoked the muse at the beginning of their epics. Homer, Virgil, and on down. They're asking the muse to give them the words so that they can sing their song, which is kind of bizarre when you think about it - for whose song is it, then? Theirs or the muse's? And that is quite like your feeling that someone other than you is doing the writing. It's a common experience for writers and other people doing deep and involving work. From another angle, which the ancients would also have endorsed, I think, the poet is like an oracle who's receiving a prophecy, or being possessed by a god, and having the message flow through him. The oracle becomes the medium. The strange and ironic thing is that the work which people produce while in this state of lost identity is the work that they will become known for in the public eye, and down the generations. Any book you pick up of a writer long since dead was probably written in such a fugue state. It's what the creative process feels like. It's how you discover those unknown parts of yourself lurking in the 'unquiet darkness', and yes, perhaps it comes at a cost. But it's a good thing. Then again, I sympathize with the need to eat something.

I've watched fair amounts if your vid talking how great this book it so I guess that's why. Also, wnglish being not my first language kinda added to the struggle lol. I hope I'd get used to reading classics soon. So yeah, I've been procrastinating to reading this book but the way you talk about it passionately really makes me want to know what really happened to it and why you loved it so much. Now I'm very excited again to start to reading this book again. And oh! What do you guys think of getting the physical copy of this book? Should I? I'm in money saving mode and I only wanna buy worthy pieces so please tell me! Emma by the way i love you! You're like my best friend and I just recently discovered your channel( because i wanna start reading classics and found that one vid of u talking abt them) and I'm loving it! Keep safe, I love you!

I love the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers so much (starting with The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet). It's the exploration of cultural diversity and integration, gender identity, neurodivergence, different relationships and so many other things, done in such a beautiful - and funny - way. Book 2: A Closed and Common Orbit, is my favourite.

To staple too many pages together you can try this: Separate into smaller sections you can staple, staple those sections individually. And then grab the last two pages from one section and the first two from the next section and staple those.

Yes, I've done that, tho another good try is those large paper clips, the ones with the two wings over the clamp.
