catcher in the rye is one of my absolute favorite books, and i'm convinced that people who don't like it have simply not actually sat down and fully read it. once you go past the surface level words and actually like, consume the story it just hits so different. we need to reclaim holden caulfield from everyone that has so drastically misunderstood his character, for real

I read The Catcher in the Rye about 15 years ago and I still often think about the relevance of the title. I loved it at the time, and am really curious whether I'd love it as much as an adult. I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I did. A Gentleman in Moscow is so good. Every time you mention hotels, it comes to mind. It's a slow story but it's so worth the read.

I read A Gentleman in Moscow over the course of 3 months, and finished it while chilling on a video call with a friend. I immediately felt soooo sad and they were like why????? And I was like BECAUSE I WILL NEVER MEET THESE CHARACTERS FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAIN. they're not a reader, so they didn't understand the feeling, but they gave me a lot of love while i teared up XD. This book is like drinking tea and eating strawberries while working on a puzzle with a bestie! Hope you like it!

I started reading Catcher last night. I had forgotten that I HATE Holden's way of speaking. It reads true to his age, but I remember boys in school who had shaggy hair in their eyes saying "or whatever" about everything. Yuck. I hope he grows up quickly and it changes. I am thankful that it is a short book. It sounds like you could use a happy, light and fluffy book as a palette cleanser with all of these heavy, daunting tomes. Maybe a graphic novel. When I felt weighed down with David Copperfield, I counted the Peggotty's. The narrator say their name a lot. It is a nice distraction and I think Aunt Betsey would approve. Have fun in Nova Scotia 💚💚💚

Holden, a six foot two inch blond man with a crew cut, who wonders if Judas Iscariot went to hell, is the hope for the next generation but after reading his story one doubts he has what it takes to be a hero. Even worse, he seems destined for a military school at a time when the Korean conflict is just beginning, and the Viet Nam War is not so far away for Holden to be safe from it. Of course Holden wants to escape that destiny but I don't think he'll be able to, but who can say?

Good choice on the audiobook for David Copperfield. I initially planned on reading it, then got a mass market paperback accidentally from the library and couldn’t do it lol. Then I searched for a better copy to immersion read & have ended up just listening to the audiobook. I’m really excited for The Catcher in the Rye because I read it for the first time after college almost 10 years ago & loved it.

I finished Catcher in the Rye yesterday and was so annoyed by it. Rated it 2/5 stars. I don't think I've ever hated a main character more. Because it's regarded as such a well-loved Classic, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt and just putting this in the "this book was not written for me" category. Hope you enjoy it more than I do - based on most of the comments here, I seem to be the odd one out. Looking forward to the conversation you have with Carolyn.😆

Who is good who is bad and where dose the grey line go. Not to mention the amazing writing. Happy to hear your enjoying it! 💖🥰😊 I finished Copperfiled and it dragged alot for me. I liked it better now 20 years after my first reading, but I still cannot find it enjoyable even if I can appreciate what it's doing and how Salinger choses to explore his themes. A Gentleman in Moscow is one of my favorite novels of the last 10 years. It's a slower pace than I'm used to but it subtly weaves in philosophy, diplomacy, literature, civility, respect and compassion. It's a story about adaptation and evolution - a dismantling of one culture and the unfolding of another. I think this book will make you want to stand taller, speak more eloquently and cultivate impeccable manners.

I really liked The Catcher in The Rye, despite all the hate it gets. The reading experience isn't exactly enjoyable most of the time (especially the beginning), but the subtext really struck a chord for me!! I think it's one of those books that are just very misunderstood (I recommend reading a bit about it after you finish the book, and definitely keep in mind the era it was written in while reading it). I saw the Blindness movie (based on Saramago's novel) years ago and it has stuck with me in such a visceral way that I haven't been able to read the book. I've read other Saramago books though and while I love his writing, I hate the way he formats his books lol makes it so tiring to get through. But I'm really happy you're enjoying it!! I DNF'd The Catcher in the Rye when I tried to read it years ago, I might attempt to read it again some day. I'm interested to see what you think of it! Also: Calcifer is so cute

So excited for you to read 1984. Finally 🎉 First time I read the book it just blew me away. There is a bit of a dry part in the middle but this is necessary to explain more in depth the political theory and system. It really is a great book in my view. Enjoy.

I am 16% through A Gentleman in Moscow and so far it is very very hotel focused. I think you will love it!❤

I really want to visit Nova Scotia. My grandmother was born in Halifax in 1916 and then the family home was destroyed in a big explosion the next year.

I finished David Copperfield in March, and I finished my re-read of The Catcher in the Rye today. Holden Caulfield is still as intolerable as ever. I definitely preferred DC over TCITR. If it wasn't short, I wouldn't have re-read it.
