Some more tips from my observation(I am not a HVAC technician): 1. In case there is gas leak, the cooling will reduce continuously. From 100% it will go to 80%, then 60, then 40, then 20 and finally 0. This is because the refrigerant will not stay in the AC at all even if there is a minor leak. So if performance of your AC has reduced from 100% to 50% but is steady at that, it is probably not a gas leak. 2. In the outdoor unit, if the fatter/wider copper pipe becomes chilled, it means that refrigerant is completing its travel through the evaporator coil(IDU) without absorbing heat from the room. This can be caused by dirt/dust clogging the evaporator coils which prevents the heated room air from coming in contact with evaporator coil and exchanging it heat. When the sensor in the fatter copper pipe senses that incoming refrigerant is chilled, it shuts down the compressor cycle, causing short-cycling(which is bad for compressors health). 3. If the blower is dirty, the dust and dirt accumulated in it will reduce its air-pulling capacity, thereby leading to less air running through the evaporator coils. This will cause the refrigerant to return to the compressor without absorbing heat and in a chilled temperature(in wider/fatter copper pipe). The chilled temperature will cause the compressor to shut down.(causing short cycling, bad for compressor)

Very good information shared. I have a question, I have a LG 1.5 ton dual inverter split A/C. I noticed very little oil on the outdoor unit, its when I touch the big copper pipe, near the suction line value. Does this mean there is a gas leakage or is this normal? I did check with soap water, but didn't notice any air bubbles. However, the cooling is ok. The A/C is 2yr old. Waiting for your reply. Thanks.

Hello sir... Thanks a lot for providing such a useful information. I am doctor. And facing problem with my midea 1 ton ac. In two years two times compressor has changed. Both time they charged for gas. They remove gas from old compressor using ice. Then refill it in new compressor. Than why they charge for gas???
