I'm soon to be 74 years old and of course I love this and love anything to do with Emmy. A word of caution though for those that think this music was so much better than now! I find that if you dig you can find artists today that are putting out truly great stuff. A young man named Tyler Childers has been around for a while and is worth a listen. Miranda Lambert on the Marfa tapes- Awesome. Many others. Don't get me wrong I could listen to Townes, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell all day and be happy but as times change, I say have an open mind! Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on you tube (some original stuff)

@@LindaCafaro Well I don't have a crystal ball; however, I'm speaking in odds. He was a good looking rock star, a drug abuser/addict. Had he married her, it would be a bad bet- likely episodes of adultery, or having children & he overdosed & left her a widow & his children fatherless. He came from a very troubled family. Moreover, this was the era of "free love". Which isn't really free- there's usually a high cost. Emmylou is from Alabama, & likely has some very traditional values regarding family & marriage. Gram Parsons may have esteemed traditional values as well; however, he kept some bad company. It's a true saying: show me your friends, & I'll show you your future. I hope that helps you understand why I wrote that & what I meant by it.

I much prefer High Fashion Queen at this slower speed. Apparently Hillman always wanted it done this way and now he's got his wish. Fast is OK too but this speed really let's the song breathe and is more like a traditional country song

This tribute seems more respectful than the one Keith Richards was in. While laudable Richards participated, he hijacked the event and he did not perform well, as his singing even by that time was long gone. And he was the passed his time of having anything interesting to offer as a musician. We got Keith the beloved personality. Here, Emmylou really keeps it all together.

@@kennymiller902 I also asked this question and receiving no answer and I think that I now have a partial answer after 2 days of researching this performance. The young man performing is Ryan Adams. Look him up. I originally thought that it was Chris Hillman from The Flying Burritos but he would have to have been much older. Then I thought that there may have been other uploads with more info and it was then that I found the name . I did recognize some of the people performing: There is Bernie Leaden of Eagles fame to the right in a black t-shirt and black slacks , and then there is Greg Leisz on lap steel and in a green shirt behind Emmylou, formally with Tom Petty (?) and now with Jackson Browne. There are 1 or 2 drummers of which I know nothing about and another country lap steel in a red shirt on which I know nothing about. And there is a guitar player on your left whom I know nothing about. Maybe someone else can help us out.

Stargazer thank you for that info! Greg Leisz is the most accomplished genius in that crowd, save Emmy Lou, he’s astonishing. I saw Ryan Adams this past year (someone gave me tickets) and honestly, his hair looked exactly the same, except now he’s 50, he seemed strangely immature, like stuck in time.

40 Days of Hope Illuminate the Darkness - Eliminate Death - Choose Life - While Jesus was in Mary's Womb, the Heart of Christ was beating in unison with the Heart of Mary. It needs to be strongly cautioned that this is going to be the most painful event in human history. And it is going to require the strongest labor of love we have ever given. But we will get through this -- if we but live by the Spirit. I believe this is what the Early Church meant when they spoke, both male and female, about being Pregnant with Christ. ❤ To the Africans, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears African. To the American Indians, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears American Indian. To the Asians, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears Asian. To the Australians, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears Australian. To the Europeans, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears European. To the Indians, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears Indian. To the Melanesians, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears Melanesian. To the Micronesians, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears Micronesian. To the Polynesians, the Sacred Virgin Mary appears Polynesian. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me- holy is His name. His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation. - Luke 1:48-50 ❤

@@MrPhilfridge It's related to an essay he submitted to briefly become a theology student at Harvard. Parsons was accepted into Harvard University in 1966, largely on the strength of his application essay since his grades were sub-par. I suspect if Gram were still alive today he would have been just as influential as John Lennon. In his interview with Playboy in 1980, Lennon specifically criticized the romanticization of artists. Based on the beautiful lyrics in Gram's song, I wrote something 'universal' that I think Grams' theology would have submitted to Harvard. The song, "In My Hour of Darkness" by Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, & Linda Ronstadt is so very holy in my opinion. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/geClhsiSst-RkYk.html ❤

@@dalelerette206 Yes i was aware that Gram was briefly a theology student. I understand it has therefore some context with Gram but as a post without explanation it is imho very strange. Who knows what influence Gram may have had , i would suggest it would have been musical rather than profound in any social sense..

@@MrPhilfridge Thank you for giving the chance to explain myself. I suppose you could take it one step further and see Nihilism as Narcissism with a dose of Pretentiousness. That could be a valid configuration. But I would definitely not place people like Gram Parsons, Jim Morrison or Kurt Cobain in this category. We all struggle with our authenticity. On February 2, 2014, Philip Seymour Hoffman, considered one of the most talented and versatile actors of his generation, dies of a drug overdose at age 46 in New York City. May he rest in peace. But as I read people’s criticism of Philip it became clear they do not want to actually understand him. Many critics delighted in condemning him without actually wanting to understand the reasons for his fatal addiction. People often Ipso Facto do the things they despise in their effort to find a sense of belonging to a greater vision. Some people even embrace the addiction as it the struggle were greater than their desired outcome. Many people SAY they do not believe in something whereas Ipso Facto they do. Example: someone will say they don't believe in Christmas. But Ipso Facto they DO believe in Christmas when they take the presents. If you don't believe it then you don't accept it -- Accepting IS Believing. This is much like Ayn Rand because anyone who rejects altruism is most certainly deluded. Based on listening to Gram this seems to be his message firmly embracing altruism.

@@MrPhilfridge The oddity is that I would not have heard of Gram Parsons if Emmylou had not told me of him. I was on her fan website through X (twitter) when she told me of how much of a positive influence Gram was on her. It was on December 12th 2023 that she explained his musical style. Yet once I listened to him I sensed an inner peace that belied any drug addiction. His musical style seemed like a graceful journey into the Mystic, much like Van Morrison but with a natural country flare. It was when I was chatting with Emmylou by email that I realized just how healthy her recognition of Gram really was. Now I seem to be retracing her steps to Gram by KZfaq. I was saddened to read that Gram and I both lost our father's to suicide when we were 13 years old.
