My ambulance rides, they charge $5 per pair of gloves. I can get a whole box for that, at Walgreens. Or $12 for oxygen tube, when the med store up the street charges $2.

ruptured appendix in college. $100k hospital stay, b/c week fighting sepsis. they wrote it off the charity, b/c I was a broke-ass college student. But, it's super demoralizing realizing that one medical event can basically wipe a person out financially.

To answer the questions about whether or not we actually need to know all that info: Some of it, such as anatomy and patient positioning, for example, is absolutely essential. I can attest to that much based on what I've seen in the handful of weeks I've been at clinical thus far. All of it? I don't know. I'm still a first year student, so I'm definitely not an expert. I still have a lot to learn. I guess only time will be able to tell that. But even if all of it doesn't have direct practical applications, I can't see how being well informed about your area of study would necessarily be a bad thing.

Even though the physical action is simply taking a picture, the tech still has to position the body part correctly so the photo gets an accurate and clear shot of where the injury is “suspected” and they can only take so many shots due to time, the injured person’s patience and radiation. A person in pain or short attention span is only going to hold their position for so long so you’d better make it perfect that first time for each angle or there will be problems(or worse, the doctor can’t make a proper diagnosis and the pictures have to be retaken). And injuries can happen ANYWHERE on a patient(you’d be amazed at what people manage to break on themselves as if they were aiming) so you have to be knowledgeable about the intricacies of the human body to get the shot right. Maybe you don’t use every single bit of training that is given to you but considering all the possibilities that could walk through your door, it’s better to be over prepared than underprepared. TLDR Imagine hiring a professional photographer to take wedding photos and then comparing them to the photos taken by your 90yod grandma. Technically both could have the same equipment and all they need to do is push a button, but who would you expect to do a better job and get your money’s worth?

If you ever end up in a clinic that has old-school equipment, you will need to know your Kvp - mA and mAs! I did a travel job and it was very old knob and tube shit! my brain hurt the first week! 🤣

You're a radiation tech, how is it?

@@HackersSun I am, but not in the US, so i can only imagine the differences. I really like my job. Small hospital, small departament next to ER and ICU, but a lot of outpatients. There's element of routine, like you should do this exam in this way, but every patient is different and not everyone is able to do what you ask them to do, so you have to improvise based on your knowledge to make it work. Interesting part is orthopedic surgeries where you use X-rays for them so they could see the bones and put them together with small incision instead of huge cut.

I hear "press a button", the next thing my mind immediately automatically plays for me is "meet George Jetson" 🎶😭😂

I take 500mg of B3 and it goes away. Right when it starts. Been doing this for 40yrs. Theory is your capillaries narrow causing pain, B3 dialates them. Best of all only takes 10mins. But I have found if I eat chocolate 2 days later I get one. So there are food triggers
