Emotiva's T3+ has a surprising amount of bass! I discuss that and compare the T3+, T2+, and the Arendal Sound 1723S.

Thank you! Your review just came out in time for me. I just got new T2+'s which I am very happy with and using a sub. I was considering getting either another pair of T2+ or possibly the T3+ for another listening area in the house. This really helped me to decide on just getting another pair of T2+ since I will use a sub in both settings. Home theater in one and stereo in the other.

Great review of the T3+. I found it interesting that you found the bass on the T3's heavy with the Godzilla vs Cong movie. I should mention that I have not actually watched Godzilla vs Cong through my system (which does not use T3's and which uses an SVS PB-4000 sub that goes down to 13 Hz) so I have no sense of how much bass was introduced by the T3's (but I've put the movie on my "to watch" list). Most A/V Receivers do have bass management settings which allows adjusting the bass level. Getting to the bass management settings on an A/V Receiver will be different for different receivers of course but it is an option to dial-back the bass. Depending on how cumbersome it is, using the bass management feature may or may not be the easiest option. I do agree that including port plugs can be helpful; Inserting port plugs tends to turn what is a bass-reflex design into a sealed-box design and sealed box subs tend to have more consistent response across their working range but at a lower dB level than an equivalent ported design, so that's likely the reason inserting port plugs dialed back the intensity of the bass. Perhaps Emotiva will take your advice and include them in the future shipments or better offer them as an additional accessory. I have considered purchasing the T3's and your review was very informative. Thanks !

The Arendals are tuned neutral per THX standards which tend to sound great for movies. The T3's appear to be tuned for a broader range of content which I love speaker that can handle both movies and music.

I own the T1+, C2+ B1+, and vaulta Emotiva speakers. They're all slightly bright inherently, but I think they sound excellent after using Dirac Live to make them a little more neutral. One thing I've discovered about them via measurements with REW is the tweeter on all of them starts to compress first above 10khz and can't exceed about 95dB above 15khz at my listening position about 3m away. Point being that you aren't going to get very close to reference level (105dB peaks per speaker) out of them without distortion and clipping.

Thank you for the review. My guess is that the bass on the T3s would level out some in bigger rooms. Not sure the size of your room, but those are big cabinets and with the design of the T3s and C3, I'm sure they are intended for big rooms.

Thank you for the review. Interesting... I have the T3+ and C3+ combination. The T3+ replaced the T2+ for L & R duties in my 5.2.4 setup. The T2+ now do rear channel duty. I find the mid-range to be a bit more detailed and fuller on the T3+, noticed it immediately, compared to the T2+, which I have had for nearly a year. As you mentioned the bass on the T3+ is fuller, and a bit more dynamic. I do not find it to be bloated or muddy, but a bit more impactful, even with the dual subwoofer setup. It's important to find the best crossover point for your room, and set speaker levels properly. My system is set up manually with a tape measure and sound meter and then trial and error listening with toe-in, crossover settings, etc is done to dial in the best sound.

Before hearing the demo in this video, I was prepared to like the T2+ over the T3+. But, what I heard is pretty much as you described in your comment. The T3 sounded more natural and fuller than the T2 to my surprise. At times the T2 sounded "wispy" to me (which you didn't say).
@Pentenfi
@Pentenfi Жыл бұрын
In my experience with big speakers having large (or many) woofers, besides the bass extension the actual presence of bass is more impact full, giving you the appearance of deeper bass. Speakers can definitely overpower a room and these T3+ are designed for very large rooms. Even the T2+ is a beefy speaker. That matches what your listening experience

Nice informative review, The T2+ and T3+ does come off a bit warm/bright, however as soon as the bass kicks in it really seems to level out and come together. Do you know what dB all 3 were outputting? I find my current setup with the Polk TSx550T'S sound better and better as I increase the volume. Hopefully my speakers are waiting for me when I get back from work in 2 weeks cause I'm super excited to try them out. I've been waiting very impatiently for this video to drop btw, thanks for your work, enthusiasm and professionalism in your videos, keep up the great work

Yes, you can definitely go that route, but as I said if you're going to add a sub the T2+ is a more cost effective option. That being said if you planning to only use the sub for movies and go solely 2- channel for music or something like that then T3+. Hopefully this helps

Im pretty certain plugging up the ports, as well as filling those woofer enclosures with fiberglass insulation will clean up the bass quite a bit, not to mention give you a little more power handling. Carbon fiber drivers hit hard, and the T3's should be more than capable of operating with no subs.

I would really like to hear these compared to my aDs 910s. The 910s go down to 25htz in-room, even with sealed cabs, due to dual 10.5" bass drivers built into their own separate enclosures inside the cabinets. I'd especially like to hear the difference between the dual-4.5" midrange drivers vs the 910s single dome mids.

A manufacturers specs are usually anechoic measurements, so you still have room gain on top. Martin Logan said my 60XTi's only reach down to 35hz. When I got them set up in my room and measured in REW, they were flat down to 26hz. Then with Dirac on top, I got them to go flat down to 23.5hz. Almost full range. So that makes me wonder, how low are the T3+ hitting in your room?

Do you consider upgrading from Klipsch RP line to Emotiva's T2+ or T3+ an upgrade or lateral movement? If so, how much of an upgrade over the Klipsch do the Emotiva's provide? Thanks PM
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 10 ай бұрын
Good question! I don’t think of the T+ series as an upgrade personally. I think of them as more of a lateral move. I think the RP line is more dynamic and forward while the T+ series is more laid back which some prefer over the RP line because they find it fatiguing after a listening session. So I think it comes down to what you’re looking for.

Thank you for the review! Not in any way i want to be rude, but I Just dont understand the point to take theses big speakers into the room and "dig into the bass" issue. In the end of the day they are made to dig deeper and not to match T2+ . There are many ways to control the bass..one of them(emotiva suggested by themselves) to move out from the wall till the point when you enjoy the bass line. As well spikes provided with these would clear up the sound, (since they have 3 big woofers each, i assumed you could feel the floor vibrating already in the "half push" from them). is bass control on receiver, integrated amp, exc didn't help..? Thank you for the review though. listened audio samples, with earphones, as well with my system and i can say (obviously from youtube compression) that 1723 sound somehow muddier in compare, bass is bloated and not clean (obviously typical V curve calibration on those), vocals sound compressed into the box, and they sound like they want to be bigger than they are...but they not..:( the T2+ on the other hand is clean and crisp, vocals are present, bass is good, quick, detailed. T3+ sound even more refined, more opened, or "airy" as you mentioned, and bass difference is noticeable from T2s..T3 bass is more confident, impactful, have more body but still crisp and detailed and quick. Thank you for your review and audio samples! regards.

On the fist audio example my thoughts are the same as yours. I thought the T2/T3's sounded better than the 1723 by far. With the T2+ sounding the best. I would have put the 1723 towers as a direct comparison to the T3+ instead of the 1723 monitors.

Simple physics. No AVR is going to out do a power amplifier. Not happening. Especially today. Any high current amplifier will drive the t3+ just fine.

I’m confused about your statements… You say the T3s are not full range because low end frequency won’t go down to 20hz. But nothing I’ve read supports that. In other words you don’t need a speaker to hit that low end to be considered full range. And you can correct me if I’m wrong maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about. You also mentioned that because these are 91db efficiency they require a bit more power. All along I’ve learned that higher efficiency speakers like these in the 90 plus db rating actually require less watts to run them. Now I understand that Emotiva recommends 100 W but quite frankly with a sensitivity rating of 91db you should be able to power these speakers with even a 50 w amp and still get great sound. Anyhow, I was just trying to point out some confusion contrast to what I’ve learned

Good questions. Technically to be “full range” a speaker needs to cover the human hearing range, 20hz-20,000hz. So that’s why I said what I said, per the specs the T3+ will play well down to 29hz. I know it will play lower frequencies just not as loud. You are correct 91db is relatively efficient but the issue is the speakers are 4ohm nominal, an 8 ohm nominal load is easier to drive. Speaker don’t stay at their rated nominal they could drop below (2ohms in this case) or go above depending on the signal they are sent. I emphasized the power required because I want everyone to look at their amp specs before they attempt to drive them. For example some av receivers are rated down to 6ohms so they may not be able to handle a drop to 2 ohms. If someone doesn’t have adequate power they may say the speakers aren’t quite dynamic when it’s actually their amplifier can’t deliver the power required. Hopefully this helps, I’m finding it difficult to explain via text. 😁

Yeah 85 pounds and the fact that these are 4 ohm speakers... Yeah I'm going to have to wait until I get a much high-paying job. With my current job I don't have that much of an income to spend on those speakers and amplifiers.

I haven't heard the T3+, but I've owned the T1 and the T2+. I personally found the T1 the more impressive of them. They're a super compact size, they seemed to perform well off axis and they delivered a crisp clear midrange with just enough sparkle without being bright. I think that at their price they really give a lot. I bought the T2+ out of curiosity after enjoying the T1 and I just wasn't impressed with them. The treble seemed a little brighter and not as cohesive as the T1. Also, that utilitarian design just got uglier when scaled up imo, lol! Obviously I find the T3+ unattractive, and definitely wouldn't see many people willing to have it in a living room. Coincidentally, I own the Arendal 1723 Monitor and I find the build quality, finish and sound to be a couple of levels above the Airmotiv line.

I'm sure they sound great, lots of good reviews but ffs they're about as butt ugly as it gets, zero waf. Great if you're a bachelor or don't care, not so great if you're a grown up who finally owns a home with decent furniture/furnishings. Someone has to ask who tf at Emotiva designs the exterior?

I don't understand the pricing by Emotiva. T3 is more than double the price of T2.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Have you noticed the double price for T3 for only adding a mid and woofer. I agree 👍 with you. The T2 is the winner and my choice too.
