This isn’t for everyone, but the learning curve is to be no honest no more difficult than learning MPC for the first time. I know I have had to learn both within a year. The most important point about this pedal is that it can create whatever effect you actually want if you know how to make it. I’ve made formant reverbs, harmonic tremolos, dimension C and D effects,granular delays and shimmer reverbs (that don’t sound shit like most do). I’ve also built fm and subtractive synths I’ve used it on guitar, bass, synths and on sampled instruments too both live and in the studio and always sounds great.

There is hardly a learning curve with the Zoia. You do need to familiarize yourself with how it works but it is very intuitive once you get going. It's not really a toss as to if the Zoia is amazing or not, confirmed amazing. I just love it. A jaw dropper in terms of potential.

I have a question: does this product work with midi triggers, without any sounds, i.e., can I use an Akai drum-pad/keyboard to play the sounds directly from the Empress?

I’m leaning towards one of these for guitar effects. It seems almost like Bitwig Grid in a stomp box. And I like the ability to go under the hood to experiment. Seems quite flexible, but I guess my main question is, how is the quality of the effects themselves?

Probably too expensive for me. I like also use pedals when i am not too lazy to route them and so on.

This is a bad review to be honest, but at least your aware your not the target audience. This pedal is for people who enjoy building custom effects and the process involved to do so. Not for producers/musicians who just want the quick and easy way to do something, as you said there are better options for that like regular pedals or plugins. And the reason you think it’s a master of none is because you haven’t put the time and effort to programme it to sound how YOU want, and that’s because you don’t like the process. It seems you formed your opinion based on other peoples patches/presets which defeats the purpose of the product because it’s all about what creative effect/synth patch YOU can come up with and program yourself. I can understand these things may not be important to you but I can’t understand how you can criticise these elements when they weren’t made with a hip hop producer’s process in mind; and no it’s not a master of none, it’s actually a master of being a modular guitar pedal and If your not interested in modular processes/workflow then you should have known that before you bought it instead of criticise it for what it aims to be.
