An ARG requires audience participation to continue. Puzzle solving, cipher decoding, real world treasure hunts, etc. Hence the "game" part of the acronym.
@verylostdoommarauder
@verylostdoommarauder 10 ай бұрын
For me and many others, the allure of ARGs and other horror series is not necessarily tricking people, it's more providing a story, visuals, craftsmanship and maybe some puzzles. Obviously everyone has different tastes, but my personal favorite is probably the Minecraft Alpha Versions ARG, not just because of the intrigue but also because they actually made the versions playable.
@thefanfinfulo

Yeah, many times people forget the "game" part of an alternate reality, sometimes being used as synonym for webserie. But the whole point of an ARG is a puzzle used to reveal a story

@@thefanfinfulo stuff without the "game" element is better categorized as unfiction - a new name for a rather old genre, that goes back atleast to Dracula (presented as a collection of 'real' journal entries, letters, and newspaper articles that the author collected on the subject)

@knaughta.masso-kist5944 8 ай бұрын
@@caoilfhionndunbarThe big difference with stuff like Dracula and to a lesser extent stuff like Sherlock Holmes and Frankenstein, is that no one acts like you're "ruining the fun" if you label them what they actually are, fiction. However with much of modern day "unfiction", acknowledging their fictitious nature is seen as taboo, and their creators will assert their realness, and it becomes impossible to tell if fans actually believe it, or are just pretending to believe it as part of the experience or whatever. If these things exist on their own website or forum like SCP for example then I don't see an issue, but when they are uploaded on TikTok or KZfaq where anyone can stumble across it and be tricked into believing it, as shown in this video, it becomes problematic IMO.

@@knaughta.masso-kist5944 It sounds a lot like wrestling back in the 80s. Yes, Star Trek isn't real either but at least Star Trek doesn't lie to you and claim it's actually real. Unlike wrestling and ARGs. Frankly if all the people doing ARGs just made an actual interactive game, some sort of video-media game, a video game if you will, instead of pretending that it's real and presented via social media and stuff, I think you'd get a lot more people interested in them.

I love the attention to detail the captain has, he used the exact same shot of the final movie and the behind the scenes shot at 2:52 and 2:55 (notice Claire touching the kids arm). It is something so small but for me its amazing to see the exact same shot pre production, and most people just use a shot around the same time, there is nothing wrong with it its just my brain that for some reason obsesses over small thing that makes this sooo satisfying

An old film photography technique to eliminate people from a crowded scene was to use a neutral density filter to ensure a very long exposure. As people come and go, the average image would emerge. I used to call my ND filter set the "people elimination" filter.

There's also the even lazier method of putting a static mounted camera there for a little while so you can get many shots where a different spot is empty in each one, then just layer them all on top of each-other and erase out all the stuff using the other layers where that spot is empty to fill it in
