There is a lesson here in Dawn's story that all new groups should learn from. Dawn looked at the numbers and saw that everyone was making big money off of their group while they were settling for "pennies." The other members should have joined Dawn and fought for their "fair" share. Big companies and corporations find it easy to dispose of individuals. But if the members had fought together as one, they could have at the very least won a bigger share of the pie if not more. So stick together in situations like this to gain power, or go down individually which is no problem for big companies and corporations as they find that individuals are disposable and of no value to them. Trust me, I've lived it!

Back in 2012 here’s what happened ... Cindy and Terry sued Maxine and Dawn for the name plus $1 MILLION in damages. They claimed M & D were illegally touring under the "EV" name after the band broke up ... but had no right, since C&T owned the LLC. According to legal docs, a judge granted "EV" founding members Cindy Herron and Terry Ellis the exclusive right to use the name "En Vogue" while performing and touring ... after a long, drawn-out legal battle with former bandmates Maxine Jones and Dawn Robinson. Although Dawn Robinson was named in legal documents as a defendant in the case -- per her rep... Dawn was not involved in the dispute, and says she gave up the legal right to use the name En Vogue several years ago. In 2013 The judge recently sided with Cindy and Terry -- giving them the name -- but said the duo failed to prove damages, and were awarded no money. Still a pretty big victory T & C ... substantial $$ intellectual property they seem to protect even from those who are 50% vested in its foundation… they were the darling queen divas of Soul, and R&B on lock from the ‘90s and well into 2000-millennium… “all for one and one for all” in partnership seemed never to be the case with majority of those manufactured male, female, blended… group tragic endings… then they try to recapture and sadly it’s never the same, because can’t go back to what was… moral of story STOP that mentality of 🦀 🪣 It 🖤 History Month February 2022

@@valentinomiller6251 I know you wrote this years ago but I think the hurt feelings come from 2012-2013 when Dawn and Maxine did interviews claiming to be "the REAL En Vogue" -- Cindy and Terry are the only members to have been in every EV lineup (minus a short period Cindy was giving birth), so just like Dawn has full reason to be hurt by Foster/McElroy, it's inevitable that Cindy and Terry would feel completely betrayed by Dawn + Max's failed lawsuit.

I MEAN,LOOK THROUGH Esther's discography:En Vogue's "Soul Flower" went barely unnoticed, I bought my copy but you don't even see it on KZfaq or many other sites. Dawn's side sounds very logical to me! why would 1 of the biggest girl groups n history settle for only making 2 cents per album??! Everyone was eating off of their talent! I don't understand why the ladies didn't stick 2gether on renegotiating, unless Terry & Cindy were making more money somewhere n the contract that Max & Dawn's didn't know about? or management got n Terry & Cindy's ear gassed their head up telling them they didn't need Dawn's & Max 🤷🏽‍♀️ No matter what happened as a fan from the very beginning I am very disappointed 😔 been wanting for them to get bk 2gether for yrs. The writers and producers get the lion's share of any song not the artists . That's why artists try to write and produce. Unless you do that, most of your money will come from tours. It's such a basic fact of the industry yet she was willing to tear everything down by fighting for something they weren't even entitled to. Lots of artists are satisfied to up their craft and do more to make more money. Their problem would have been with their producers giving them more freedom to do that though, not fighting with the record company over a music industry default. So short sighted. They were all making more money touring then they were in their old jobs, I'm sure. Respect to Cindy and Teri for keeping their dignity and getting paid to do what they love for decades now.

I appreciate that Dawn is always an open book about what's truly going on with En Vogue because if it were up to Cindy and Terry, we'd never know. Their performance last year with Sylvia Rhone had me thinking that the 5 of them were ready to get things going to tour and celebrate 30 years together. It's a shame that at this rate, it will never happen. - I don't agree with Dawn's sentiment that Rhona isn't a real member of the group. While of course she wasn't a part of creating the EV that fans knew and loved in the 90s, her presence in keeping the brand going in their most recent years should be respected. Cindy is right. She shouldn't be kicked to the curb whenever Max and Dawn return. Rhona has been more reliable than Dawn and Maxine. She doesn't appear to overstep her boundaries or brag about her presence in the group either so Dawn should let her be. - It was very unfair that Cindy and Terry refused to allow Dawn and Maxine to record themselves during their reunion. I can see why Dawn would feel somehow about Rhona having her camera in their faces when they couldn't even do the same. Yes, Maxine and Dawn are "employees" of EV at this point but if Cindy and Terry ever wish to have an all 5 moment for their fans that will last, compromise and communication with have to exist between the four of them. They're all in their 50s and shouldn't be treated as children by each other especially when they all contributed to creating the EV that fans loved. There was no lead singer in EV. - I think if Dawn knew 20 years ago that signing away her rights to EV would entail all of this, she wouldn't have. I sense regret. If they ever do try the all 5 thing again, I think therapy would be great for the group so they can heal. They can't just keep coming together without ironing out the issues of the past. Also, while Cindy, Terry, and Rhona have done a great job at sustaining the brand in recent times, what they do together will never be as big as what EV5 will be. That's the simple truth.
@valentinomiller6251
@valentinomiller6251 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed except for the final comment. The current EV3 will never do would EV4, the OGs could. I respect Rhona's presence, but to insist she's needed is false. Rhona should not be kicked to the curb, but for a reemergence of the group and screaming fans, Rhona is not needed, or in many cases, wanted. The fans love the OGs, and that's just a fact. To the person who equates En Vogue's situation to Destiny's Child, it's not the same thing. Michele was a member of the elevated group and part of their pinnacle. The same is not true with Rhona. Michele is NOT expendable, because in the end, when you think of DC, Michele IS a third, a third, not a fourth. When most think DC, the two OGs don't come to mind, so En Vogue's "Rhona" issue is not the same.

I say this respectfully. I just leanred the additional member of EvVogues name is " Rhona". I don't think anyone would forget that name after 2020!🤷🏾‍♀️ That being said, the BEGINNING of a thing is the FOUNDATION and is of essence. The ORIGINAL EnVogue impacted people's lives, they changed generations. Clearly someone that wanted to go solo would not join another GROUP. I truly pray that the original members put the EGOS aside and think about the FANS FOR ONCE and WE, THE MAJORITY OF THE FANS WANT THE ORIGINAL ENVOGUE! Rona can be a part of that too, she is talented I'm sure, ( Although she does not have a voice that I recognize, per se like the original members ) and beautiful. However, give us DAWN and MAX please and thank you. I promise you, you will go farther. Now EV3's "Rocket" is my jaaaaam and I loved Terry's " Wherever You Are" so ALL of the ladies have a lane, but Dawn is a FORCE, let's be honest. She is an asset and should be paid, included and respected as such as well as " Give it Up Turn It Loose" Maxine! My favorite artist said it best, "Give The People What They Want". 💯. Foster and McElroy made a killing off a them! Let's be fair now in 2021. #funkydivasforever🔥🔥🔥🔥

This line of thinking is why Dawn splits rent with roommates in her 50s and sleeps on a twin bed. What a portion of the EV fanbase thinks doesn't stop Cindy, Terry, and Rhona from booking gigs. It didn't stop Eddie Murphy from asking those three to record a song for Coming 2 America or Lifetime from giving them a television movie. Dawn owns NOTHING. Being remembered doesn't pay bills.

I kinda see both sides. Although I do believe Terri and Cindy could benefit from compromising with Dawn and Max. It does seem like it’s their way or the highway. Which if you’re asking them to join again so y’all can secure the bag is NOT the way to go about it. Having said that though I respect C&T for not just kicking Rhonda to the curb. She’s an essential member at this point. It’s so sad that they still can’t just put egos to the side to celebrate their legacy. 30 years in this business is an amazing thing. They owe it to themselves and the fans to get over this petty drama, hear each other out and compromise to deliver something great together again.

Rhona stepped aside twice so that the O4 could re-join. Dawn Robinson wanting Rhona to step aside for a third time is ridiculous. Dawns moment as a solo star has passed, she made sure of that. Even if Rhona were to step aside, it's only a matter of time before Dawn Robinson finds another reason to quit. That is the only thing she has done consistently. Quit. Dawn is a liability. Rhona is an asset. Cindy & Terry are right. This is business. Protect the brand.

I never said Rhonda should step aside. As a matter of fact I said I respect Terry and Cindy for not asking her to. I don’t know where you got that from. Yes Dawn has left multiple times and that sucks but she still has millions of EV fans who would love to see her back with the group. Protecting the brand is great but at this point they are ALL isolating their fan base. They need to put egos to the side and find a way to work together. Period!!!

I agree except the part about Rhona's being essential. When they tour, they perform OG En Vogue songs of which Rhona was not a part in the recording and chart successes, therefore ANYONE could be Rhona, the third singer, and still no one would care. It's not as if C&T have a distinctive sound with Rhona. Rhona is singer for hire and the essential ones are C&T. #Facts.

Short version: Dawn gave up her rights to En Vogue in 1997 the first time she left. Cindy, Terry, and Maxine created En Vogue LLC in 2005. Some years later, Maxine began to skip shows they had all agreed to and did shows with a group she formed called En Vogue to the Max. Cindy and Terry sued, it went to arbitration, and Maxine lost her rights to En Vogue LLC because it was found she violated the terms of their operating agreement. Maxine appealed but the decision was upheld.

Whether we like it or not, Rhona is a part of Envogue. She may not have started as an original but she has been recording and touring with Terry and Cindy for over a decade. So to ask her to step aside IF Dawn and/or Maxine decides they want to come back would be sooo unfair. Furthermore, Dawn, once again, you LEFT in 1997 and gave up your rights to the group. @dron fallon, their best performances and songs that made Envogue what they are was the result of the talents of the original four members. Dawn and Maxine have very great and powerful voices. This is not to take away anything from Cindy and Terry. I believe that it's the higher ups in the record company that's trying to stifle both Dawn and Maxine. Cindy and Terry are afraid to stand up against the higher ups. It's too bad that they don't realize that the true power is in their unity. The higher ups could do nothing if all four girls were united. That divide and conquer strategy can't work against a united front. Hold your heads up Dawn and Maxine. Dawn, you are a strong warrior.

First off I’m a fan of this iconic & legendary group ...like many I would love nothing more than to see them all back together..... but I gotta keep this real ...... Terri & Cindy are about their grown woman business , they are about professionalism, protecting the En Vogue brand & collecting the bag . Dawn & Max have came back several times & it only last a short time & then it falls apart ... this has happened on tour which creates issues with bookers & promoters. Dawn is still holding on to things from 25 yrs ago ..even things with Lucy Pearl , Max seems to follow along so this creates drama , friction, they go into interviews trashing Terri & Cindy .... Terri & Cindy have not said anything against them & have maintained the door is always open. I feel like Rhona is cut from The same cloth as Terri & Cindy she is professional, she obviously get along with them .. the group is stable ... they don’t miss dates ...there’s a lot of money to be made in the touring market .. they make it work without the drama ..collect their coins ... at the end of the day money talks ..... Seeing the way Dawn is these days ...I don’t see them getting back together so I have learned to accept the Cindy, Terri & Rhona version of En Vogue and I’m at peace with that

When she tells the same story over and over for years, it is damaging to Cindy and Teri and it's wrong. There are so many people who act as if they have done this girl wrong and what did they do really? Dawn was a firebrand and the others were more careful and concerned with missing an opportunity of a lifetime. Dawn said it herself, she quit. They didn't kick her out. Her style does not match theirs and that's fine, it doesn't mean they did her wrong, but for so many people they see her as a victim. She caused her own problems. She was willing to kick up a storm over the two cents per record sale but did she not consider that they would not getore than that? They did not write, produce any of their music. What was she thinking? They like most artists, make their money performing. I see Dawn as an illogical "tear it all down" type who suffers for her impulsiveness and takes others down in the process. Talking about this for so many years is just pathetic.shebis a sorry person. Have some dignity and stop selling the "somebody done me wrong", "I tried to be a hero" garbage.

Everything I say is all love we can agree to disagree but I promise you one thing if they don’t agree we won’t see the four of them or five for that matter together and that’s a fact!

Michael Browne ... but they just had a reunion.... and again Ms Dawn is disgruntled,, going to the press smearing and maligning them 20 yrs later.....being petty...... it’s always something... her complaints were very elementary.....if you pay close attention.... Dawn is the one who refuses to tour.... she is bitter because terry did a solo project and they cancelled hers ( or she would not have brought it up)... she don’t know how to play the game obviously .....

gary williams 😂😂😂 I’m gonna say this I’m here for EnVogue individually and as a collective! Dawn not choosing to tour (which if she never said anything you would never know why) because from your point of view is she’s negative because she’s always “going to the press” which I would interpret that as saying she should not say anything negative or tell us the true reason for her not being with the girls. As a fan first none of us go into meetings with Cindy Max Terry and Dawn it’s called the “music business” and they don’t have the “business side” of it together until the “business side” of it is together we won’t get the reunion that we want as fans. The trained mentality that if someone complains about what doesn’t work for them and to shut up and go with the flow days are over these are grown women and they are in their 50s, We don’t live in the 60s where you just shut up and sing. We as fans are seeing the disfunction that is happening and to say that Dawn or anybody in the group shouldn’t speak about speaks to the mindset of saying it’s ok! It’s ok to disagree but to tell someone how to move and navigate clearly it doesn’t work and again we are nottttt behind the scenes and will never know unless someone airs their dirty laundry. That old trained mentality what happens in this house stays in the house is in the past bottom line I pray the ladies find a common ground and can get on one accord and move forward as a unit. Terry solo album dawn solo album is history! As I bought all of their cds! I enjoy this dialogue let’s keep it going!

I really don’t understand Dawn and I absolutely loved her as part of original En Vogue but didn’t she choose to leave? I understand that she wanted the group to get more money but being shady, as she stated herself, is so very wrong. I have not heard in one interview Terry nor Cindy shading her or speaking ill of her. That’s where the class meets the trash. Them getting back together would have been great for us fans but oh my gosh, the drama. She chose to leave the group and the name of which Cindy and Terry now own so they are in fact the shot callers. 🤷🏽‍♀️ this interview screams misery loves company. Ijs. And I know there are bigger issues in the world to focus on but I loved En Vogue… so…lol

There's a lot of truth in this statement " divided we fall, united we stand" can you imagine how powerful they would be if they were to get along and carry Rhona along too😭 I really pray that God helps this group the way he helped Xscape because wow 💔💔

I used to want for the originals to get back together so much but the more I see/hear Dawn.., I'm like, forget it. The record company/management messed up from jump.., they should have released 4 songs where they all had the chance to be highlighted but it didn't happen that way. The starting focus was on Cindy and Terry.., especially Cindy. Hold On (Cindy/Terry) - You Don't have to Worry (Cindy)- Don't Go (Terry) then Lies (Dawn/Cindy)... Part of Me, should have been releases as well as Waiting on You but alas, they weren't. It's a true shame because they are still great but they could've been beyind and truly untouchable...

I’m (not) sorry but if I were Cindy & Terry, I wouldn’t be trying to meet their “demands” either. Max & Dawn especially were inconsistent members, and Rhona is truly the biggest team player. She sat it out back in 2009 just to come back in a rush in 2012 when they both decided to leave. Rhona 17 years in, which is more than half, of the full 30.

That’s ridiculous. If compromising would help with group cohesion & keep everyone happy, then they should do it. Tbh, they were all equal original members of the group, there is no way Cindy & Terry should be bossing them around.
@C4rterMusic
@C4rterMusic 3 жыл бұрын
@@veronicajade20 I wouldn’t say they’re bossing them around, but after all the public bad mouthing from both and inconsistency from Dawn (leaving in 97, 05,06, and 2011), I wouldn’t want to meet bow down to them either. Dawn doesn’t want Rhona to be apart of 30 years of the group even though she’s been in for 17 years. Plus, say Rhona did sit it out, Dawn and/or Max leave again during a reunion tour because they don’t like something or a disagreement happened, what are Cindy & Terry to do? They can get sued for shows because when you get booked, it goes by who signs the contract. Having Rhona already on tour would be a pre-set damage control. Plus, I would feel a way if I were Rhona to sit for the 30th anniversary of the group and I put in dedication & loyalty 17 years.

No disrespect but my first intro to En Vogue when I was actually old enough to remember them was EV3 and Dawn was already out. So I always thought it was Max, Terry, and Cindy for the longest until I was old enough to research that the group originated as a quartet. So maybe me being so open minded about Rhona being a part of the group is for that reasoning. I don't mind Rhona in the group. My first intro to Rhona was on MMC and I remember liking her voice a lot. It wasn't until I was older and realized that this was the same new chick in En Vogue. So again, I like every lineup of En Vogue.

Yeah, I remember Rhona from MMC (whenever they showed the Disney Channel for free because my parents wouldn't pay for it 😂😂😂). But I'm old enough to remember when they first came out. I didn't think too much of it when Dawn left honestly, but it's always weird to me when they bring in a non-original member. The show must go on, but at the same time, you gotta give respect to everybody who established the legacy in the first place. There would be no En Vogue without Cindy, Terry, Max, and Dawn. Point blank, period.
