at last i could use the water layer unity gave, good explanation, and what version is this (2022.1 or 2022.2), cuz I prefer a stable ver for my game.

The water system is officially available in 2022.2 alpha. You can use it with 2022.1 if you get an earlier version from GitHub but officially it's being released in the package manager with 2022.2

Thank you, did you find any official documentation for this anywhere?
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
I just searched and there isn't any documentation on it yet. The best info you can get on this is most likely the forum page for the feature. forum.unity.com/threads/water-system-for-the-high-definition-render-pipeline.1203751/ In general this is just how every feature works in HDRP. So if in the future you see a new feature you want to enable just follow the same general steps. Go to the HDRP Asset and find the feature and enable it. If it has to do with rendering then most likely you'll also have to go to the Global Settings tab to enable it as well under the Rendering or Lighting Section. Then it should work in the scene. If it doesn't work then you might also need to add it to a volume in the scene or to the Default Volume of the project.

Not sure which version of Unity you are using, but 2021.3.1 Does not have any settings for water and no options to create water objects. Are you actually using an asset from the asset store? It's not built in to Unity releases anymore

I'm using Unity 2022.2 Alpha. This is the version of Unity that will come with the Water System in HDRP directly from the package manager. If you are using 2022.1 you could get the water system to work but you'd need to get HDRP from GitHub and the correct version that would work with that version of Unity. A lot more work to get it working for that version.

@@KlidKoi can not see water setting in 2022.2 release
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
@@FesterThanLight I'm not sure why it's not showing for you. I tested it in both 2022 release and 2023 alpha and the process is still the same between both versions of the Editor and HDRP.

Is there a way to use a custom material for the water? I tried just assigning a custom material in inspector, but no matter what i do the water becomes transparent.
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
Did you make a custom shader in shader graph for the material? It will only work with the correct shader setup in shader graph mader for the water.
@wackofeather Жыл бұрын
@@KlidKoi apparently you have to download a package to make water shader graphs, even thoguh they are still and option without the package
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
@@wackofeather You don't need any extra packages, all the nodes to create a water shader comes with HDRP. You just need to set the Shader to Water, and hook up the correct nodes. For the most part there's no need to create a custom shader since tweaking the settings will get you want you want most of the time. If you have a specific use case that the default shader setup can't be used for, then you would want to make a custom shader. Maybe I'll make a shot video going over how to set this up and how to reference the premade water shader as well.

you know how to get a water height from water surface at specified position?

Are you trying to get the height of the water surface for creating floating objects/buoyancy?

Everything works great in editor and in game mode, but after build the water does not show up.
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
Not sure if you got this to work yet since it's been a while since you posted this. If you are using a newer version of the editor the water system should be a lot more stable now with more features and no rendering issues. At least I haven't come across any as I did in the past.
@damirshabayev344 Жыл бұрын
its bot showing up on alpha, any help?
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
This should be a lot more stable and easier to setup in the more recent versions of the editor. You can try it in a newer version if you haven't already, anything 2022.2 and above should work fine. A lot less bugs and rendering issues.
@viniciusgoose2985 Жыл бұрын
aye, why don't I have any underwater caustics?
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
You might not have caustics enabled. Check the settings for the water game object you have in your scene and see if caustics are enabled.
@viniciusgoose2985 Жыл бұрын
@@KlidKoi I solved it a while ago. I think it was some setting which caused the water to simulate being so dense that light wouldn't go thorugh, or something like that.

this is outdated
@KlidKoi Жыл бұрын
Yes, this is from an old alpha version of the editor and pre released version of the water system. Currently it's a lot easier to setup although still similar steps to enable the water system.
