Qantas has taken delivery of its last Boeing 787 as part of its long-term expansion plans. However, now questions remain over whether the company has just enough aircraft for the upcoming decades.

Theyre definitely gonna need more long haul aircrafts. Australia is basically far from most of the continents so i think theyll need much more like the 777Xs and the A350s, A330neo's and 787s.

After being delayed in Rome and Doha this week by a total of 28 hours by Qatar, Qantas Sunrise project will be a game changer for Australian's and the new A350 will be a stunning aircraft to deliver the product! I think it’s all about the mission - so the Mix of A350 B787 & A330neo for most airlines would look complex. I think the work Airbus has done A330neo does make it extremely attractive for Qantas. Very close to the performance of B787, great comfort with ‘18 inch seats in economy, upgraded landing gear to cope with more cycles, pilots who are trained on it with type commonality with A350. I think B787 could be too much plane for some of the missions in the network.

@@soccerguy2433 But there is pilot shortage. Many retired early because of covid. Many can't afford the ever increasing cost of pilot training. In the 90s it was about $35/40,000 to train a pilot. Today it cost over $100,000 to get your commercial pilot training license. And that is quite expensive.

I think Qantas will end up getting the 251t version of the A330-900neo. With a range of 7,200 nautical miles, the A330-900neo could be used to fly from Sydney to the as far as Los Angeles and SAn Francisco in a pinch if necessary. As such, A330-900neo will mostly likely be used on routes from Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to other parts of eastern Asia.

Qantas could do with a modest fleet of 18 - 23 brand new B787-10 wide body jets in addition to it's existing B787-9 fleet . . . the Australian full service carrier can operate the B787-10 on busy point-to-point long haul routes, for e.g. Sydney (SYD) - Delhi (DEL) & Perth (PER) - Copenhagen (CPH) via Mumbai (BOM) . . . Qantas can might as well operate their A380-800s on similar point-to-point long haul routes . . . Project Sunrise mandates a fleet of atleast 11 brand new A350-900 ULR & 26 of the A350-1000 HGW ULR which is a special built-to-order variant . . . both the A350-900 ULR & A350-1000 HGW ULR are built to operate across very long distances, more than 12,620 kms non-stop . . . such as Sydney (SYD) - London (LHR) & Brisbane (BNE) - Frankfurt (FRA) . . .

With Jetstar launching BNE - NRT as well as KIX, Qantas should axe BNE - HND and just transfer passengers onto Jetstar flights. This would free up at least 1 or 2 A330s which could instead be used for its much more busier Sydney or Melbourne Hub. Besides, Queenslanders prefer to go with Low-Cost Airlines and Budget Holidays more, compared to our southern states, so in addition, we could run transfer the Jetstar CNS - NRT route into a BNE - NRT via CNS services as a secondary service alongside Jetstars BNE - NRT Direct service. I think that Qantas will replace its a330 series aircraft with the a330neo. This may be all the aircraft that the airline needs for now. I would love to see Qantas in Seattle. Good for Qantas for their fleet renewal and remodel.

Only you could say "End of an Era" after Qantas takes delivery of a 787. It is in fact the last 787 on the books right now, but it more than likely will not be the last. How much does Airbus pay you?

QANTAS should scrap pie in the sky sunrise and worry about doing standard long haul properly again.

On my recent flight to Dallas, the customer service manager blamed their poor service on the 787’s lack of space in cabin. Bad excuse and not a fan of the plane

They can expand with their a350s and a330neos to replace ceos and potentially add to them. If they want more 787s for that they'll just have to spend big on training

Why is it "end of an era"? You make it sound as if they've all been withdrawn. It's just the delivery of the final unit.

@@nickolliver3021 because Boeing as a company does not deserve the trust of the travelling public or the airlines they try to sell aircraft to. They are not the company they once were, after the max fiasco they will never have my trust, they don't deserve it. They knew they were deceiving the public and the airlines they sold these duds to. Subsequently many people died and no one at Boeing was held accountable.

Qantas may have put up a stink. Qatar may also be one of the very best airlines in the world. But for once I was happy with the Australian government effectively punishing a nation because of a horrific sexist incident that they really have apologised for, or made any attempt to remedy
