Shot on black and white super 8 film, Jóhann Jóhannsson’s 2014
directorial debut ‘End of Summer’ is a hypnotic and slow-burning
journey through the austere landscapes of the island of South
Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula.
Accompanied by rich and detailed field recordings of the surrounding, this
footage makes a perfect foundation for Jóhann's musical compositions,
performed together with Oscar-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe.
The OST is out on Sonic Pieces.
In 2020 End of Summer was screened by Mubi. It was awarded the Short Film Grand Prize at IndieLisboa
International Film Festival in 2015, and was also screened at a scattering of European and UK film festivals including: Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, Ischia Film Festival, Stockfish - Film Festival in Reykjavík, MMIFF Festival, London Short Film Festival, European Film Festival Palić, and Montreal’s RIDM.
‘End of Summer’ precedes Jóhann’s 2020 feature-length film ‘Last and First Men’, which was completed after his death in 2018.
