I remember a meditation book called 30 Days Without Social Media by Harper Daniels that helped me. Social media is no longer social...it's hypnotical.

Iv just started reading this year at the ago of 37, and if you haven't read girl on the train then I highly recommend it. I finally pulled it out of a cupboard after owning it since it was first released like 8 years ago 😅. I also started only reading it on my journey to and from work to delay the ending I'm enjoying it that much!. For context the main reason I had gotten into reading after thinking about It on and off for years was only when I deleted all social media off my phone except KZfaq. (Mainly watch it on my tv) . It has freed up so much time and mental space for me.

I feel the same and this year I took up loads of craft hobbies to make sure I wasn't reaching out for my phone. I 'detoxed' during the pandemic and have since reflected on how bad social media made me feel when I was posting and scrolling all the time. It's not the same as it used to be when social media was used as a way of being social, i miss the conversations and discussions. I have enjoyed watching your KZfaq videos about living a slower life and how to prevent burnout, really inspired! x

A comment. An add for an online therapy service popped up: it came across as authentic and personal. (It was you). Later other adverts popped up, clearly acted and unconvincing. Then I thought yours was very well presented but without sincerity. That puzzled me. Obviously you are sincere, it shows, don't ever loose that.

I appreciate your comment. Honestly, I mean what I say in the ad, my thoughts and reflections on therapy are the same. I took that job over a year ago, knowing what I know now I’m not sure I would do the same, but it’s a lesson I’ve learnt!

Wow, fantastic video. Thanks for sharing your experience. I totally relate. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed recently and have certainly noticed that I’m spending more time scrolling. I have been trying to do other things now instead of reaching for my phone such as drawing, writing and reading. Especially when I’m at work as a break!

Ahh there's definitely a correlation isn't there! Whenever I spend a break on my phone I always wonder why I don't feel refreshed then realise it's definitely my that🥲

Made me think that how we see phone addiction is similar to how we see alcohol and caffeine addiction in society. Somehow we've put these in the category of things that are just part of a happy life. Whilst the evidence of the damage it does is so clear. And I also think most people know it's not good for us. But still we are (almost) all addicted and tell ourselves and eachother that we are not. Feels like a striking similarity. But not sure how to move away from it, since we haven't figured it out for the other categories either...

So true, it will be interesting to see how the conversations changes over the coming years!

Really relate to this. I'm 30 and was diagnosed with ADHD last year. I definitely have a problem with my phone, either constantly messaging people, checking social media, or playing games in the evening while also watching TV. It does my head in but it's so hard to stop! I found that installing Minimalist Phone (I think it's only for android?) has massively helped as I can block apps such as social media for a certain amount of time. I don't always use it, but it has really made a difference. Now I try to knit , crochet, or draw while I'm watching TV if I feel I need to do something with my hands. Often I'll end up only watching the TV. Trying to be better at doing something else other than TV, like reading, but that's a whole other problem!

I haven’t heard of that app but it sounds ideal, thank you for sharing! My default is to watch tv, but I’m slowly trying to bring more awareness to it and remind myself I have other options! X

I know this question is a bit off topic, but what are you using for videos and photos? They are so cosy, soft, beautiful for me. And thank you for all of your contents. They are such an inspiration 🥰

Love slower long form content (like your videos) but I find it difficult to discover new channels/podcasts. Tiktok especially helped me find creators like yourself, but I'd love to find more another way

I know right! The tiktok algorithm is so good in finding recommendations, but it's also is the app I want to stay away from the most cause it's addiciting (but also love it aaah).

@@elieska totally agree. I'm thinking of deleting and downloading Tiktok maybe a once a fortnight check it. And also trying to use KZfaq search and suggestions to find my preferred simple living / slow living / eco living content ☺️
