I love the Endless Ocean series, but this feels like a game that should have come out during the Wii U era. I fear that this game is doomed to undersell and ultimately leading to Arika shelfing the series for another 15 years.

Yep. This actually feels like it should've been the predecessor to EO2 since so many features have been removed. After playing for about 4 hours last night, I pulled up a playthrough of EO2 and the difference is night and day, even just the intro. I gotta say, I'm incredibly upset over the boring soundtrack and lack of Hayley Westenra 😂

I honestly agree, I almost keep forgetting it’s an Endless Ocean game😂 when I separate Luminous from the others I do enjoy it. Like it’s an enjoyable game for me I just might not be able to label it as an EO game like the others😁

I'm a wildlife biologist, and Endless Ocean Blue World on the Wii was one of the games that really inspired me to learn about this fascinating world and the organisms within it. To this day it is still in my top 10 favorite games of all time. Regrettably, I must express my utmost disappointment thus far in the first impression of Endless Ocean Luminous. The game seems devoid of all the charm, novelty, and diversity found in its predecessor. While the focus to online gameplay is an interesting concept to encourage cooperation (and I love the idea of your dive club) I'm sad to say that the game does not yet seem to be worth its price. Mandy, I am curious if you and other lifelong Endless Ocean fans feel a similar level of disappointment in the overall presentation of the game when comparing to games that released over a decade ago? Regardless, I hope that your Let's Play may change my opinion.

I will say I miss the smaller, more defined maps. I'm not a fan of the randomized map feature I'd rather have smaller biomes to explore and there being no land or true characters outside of an AI falls a little flat. That said I'm going to be spending long hours playing this and enjoying it all the same

@@madalynnr9940 Completely agree! Loved the varied ecosystems from marine to freshwater, areas like Valka Castle and characters like the L&L Crew added so much flavor and charm to the second game. Hopefully the game compensates with a more varied catalogue of sealife.

I am more than a little sad. I also hate that the game uses my Nintendo account name. Will it change if I rename my Nintendo name? I mean, I chose my dogs name with Nintendo and she died. I don't want the game to keep calling me that! Will try that when I go back in. I was just soo depressed about the game that I needed to turn it off for a while. And I anticipated many many hours and late nights escaping into this. 😟

I’ll be honest - I do find myself a little disappointed. I’m going to definitely make a review video of some sort, but I will say that it is honestly not an Endless Ocean game to me. It IS a fun game that I will keep playing, but it’s not EO😌 (in my personal opinion, everybody’s different so if you love it that’s amazing and I’m so happy for you!). It kind of feels like the fan fiction version of EO to me lol, the thing I loved most about the games was that it had a quality to it that was entirely it’s own and the heart they had for stories and the wonder of the ocean was captivating. This game just seems a little thrown together, I like diving with friends so much but they seemed careless about the story which was the biggest takeaway for me. Anyways, just my very ramble-ie thoughts! Thanks for reading and commenting🩵

Some people say that they like the "chill atmosphere" of this game. I do kinda like a chill atmosphere, but there needs to be something to keep it rigid. I'd say Blue World did this perfectly with the occasional dangerous creature and.... the story! With this game, its chapter which need to be unlocked, which is stupid. In Blue World, granted, the story is sorta corny, but it works naturally. I also saw some gameplay from another video, and the way biomes switch is well... how may I say it... *ass*. With blue world, it had multiple small worlds, but with this, its the same world with different varying biomes, and it doesn't really work as well. I was really hoping this could be the Blue World sequel I hoped for, but this is just really disappointing. I wan't something relaxing, but with a bit of *action* as well, and this don't deliver, from what it sounds like. It also sounds like there are less things to do... with BW there were the tour missions, treasure missions, and a ton of random secrets and quests. I hope they make a BW remake!

I haven't gotten the game yet (still undecided if i'll love it or if it will disappoint me lol) but is it really that laggy? or was it something with your recording? if it was your recording: understandable, you're doing amazing and I love ur content, if it's the game tho? 😬I love Endless Ocean but I feel like the game might've needed a bit more work

I hope Nintendo will eventually re-release a Full HD version of the Blue world. Its storyline and gameplay are just something this game can’t match. Luminous is more about the online gaming with everyone experience. It is more accessible especially for kids. My 8 year old enjoys this game also because of its simplicity. But all the hidden gems that need to be worked to uncover from the last two game all become available right from start and that takes away the suspense and the uniqueness of the second game.

Hey Mandy, what is your opinion on the AI generated maps on solo dives? I personally am not sure whether its a good idea. Lets say you really like whale sharks, in the 1st 2 games, you could go to the specific location to find it. Now its just luck whether the animal you like spawns into the map your currently in!

Hey there! I like the idea, but I personally prefer the intentionality that Blue World had with the maps - it tied the story all together and made the areas familiar and almost “homely” after a while. I like it a bit more for multiplayer but I’m not totally sold in general😁

…It’s so weird to have only the AI voice. Have you seen ANY characters that have voiced lines yet? It’s weird to sit there and “talk” to Daniel (presumably over coms) and hear only glubbering. The blue glow on things you need to scan is weird as well. I can see that being an eyesore when you reach a new area with a large amount of new fish. And yes, salvage being back makes the magpie part of my brain happy as well.✨💍✨🐦‍⬛

Has anyone else cleared a whole map and then really looked at it when exiting the dive? Just curious. It's no wonder it wasn't interesting. I decided to clear an entire map and after it was done, I saw that it was mostly empty except for 7 areas. One was a trench. Then there were three copy and pasted identical formations. And a second set of three identical formations. So basically, most of the map was just duplicate areas. 🙄. I snapped a screenshot and will clear another map to compare and see if they use the same formations again.

Some maps generate pretty empty and barren, that happened to me with my first solo dive map which made me think the world was really just that empty altogether.😬 But I've found some pretty cool maps since then while diving with my Discord! Let me know if you continue to find empty maps, we have some IDs with some fun locations we'd love to share with you💕

@@MandysGamingGarden am I able to solo dive in the same maps used for group? If so, that would be awesome. I read a comment that said the better maps, like for depths, etc, are only for groups. I hope that's not true! I also think that I will leave a map and try for another one if I get another extremely boring and repetitive one.

@@MandysGamingGarden Thanks! I have never used discord but maybe I should now 🤔 I tried a few maps and they were boring and empty. That's when I decided to totally clear one to see if I was missing something or If I could solve any of those round disc things before leaving. Nope, just terrible maps. Then after questioning it, I started a new one, and it was immediately different. Kelp and such so a bit more interesting. But then I found a huge freshwater area. It still looked like ocean, but all the fish were freshwater. Still exploring this map. Still empty areas but at least this one is a lot more varied in what is there. Still trying to figure out the discs lol. I thought for sure I brought the right creature back to one but I guessed wrong. (How many times can I write "still" in one post?)

An hour in and am profoundly disappointed. This is ocean for sure but they ruined everything I loved about the previous two games. The ai voice..what were they thinking? I want to cry. I guess it may be good for those who didn't play the previous two games and experienced the charm and almost magical peaceful experience of them. What's relaxing about an ai voice? I wish I could get my money back. I hate being so negative. I can't even begin to explain all the reasons why. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who got up to find that Santa put Brussels sprouts under the tree. Months of anticipation and excitement stomped on. 😭😭😭 Sorry, just feeling so bad right now. I couldn't afford to buy this yet here I am.

I am so sorry to hear you are so disappointed😔, I am honestly disappointed as well. My biggest thing is that it’s a fun game but it’s not Endless Ocean, and the best thing about EO is that it’s different from so many other games we’ve played. I totally understand where you’re coming from🥺

@@MandysGamingGarden It's maybe an interesting diving game for some. They just seriously missed the mark on what we loved about endless ocean. I mean, here, we're not truly discovering the fish either. We have to scan the blueish fish to uncover what they are. There no seeing a fishy and saying "ooh, you look like a new one, what are you?" Here we scan groups and get a list. The shipwrecks are just decorative. I have waved at Thanatos several times so I guess we're buddies now. I'm sorry I have been venting here. I guess I hope at least some here understand how special the first two games were to so many of us. It would have been better had they not used the EO title and just called it Luminous since it's not the same. Where can I beg them to remaster the originals for the switch? Sigh

Got the game and finished the first map, it’s a fun game, though lack luster in other departments, I can see this being its own stand off thing though through n through it isn’t really a OE game to me, fun yes, silly and far fetched? Also yes, but lack of characters and having your dolphin buddies is a bit of a game killer, and that AI voice does get on my nerves XD that and I feel they really tried to lean on the multiplayer rather then make a good story. But eh we got what we got, if I were honest I hope they make a continuation on blue world as it kinda left open ended, maybe there’s a new myth they could chase after that or fight GG for his salvage treasures lol

It takes the name of the licence ''endless ocean'', keep the diving and fish information and erase everything else. This game feels bare bone and empty... I have no luck with solo diving map: the landscape are just sand with some rocks... 😢

**MINOR SPOILERS** I was so taken back by the major steps backwards this game took compared to EO and EO2, I thought it was a different development company. To learn this is still made by Arika is so, so disappointing. 15 years of waiting for them to release a game that is substantially lacking in any form of substance whatsoever, and that's before comparing it to it's predecessors. I have a massive list of grievances after playing- the fact that sharks still attack despite no reason for it, along with a lot of clear differences between design styles of certain models, leading me to think they reused assets, the pathetic use of AI for soulless voicing, a story system that relies on getting decent random odds, and more. This was the biggest let down Nintendo has caused me to date, and that includes the dumpster fire that is Pokemon S/V. Long rant aside, still look forward to diving with others now and then, and the dive club is gonna make this game more playable for sure, but overall EO:Luminous doesn't inspire as much curiosity nor confidence as the old ones. What a shame.

Thanks for this comment ~ I honestly agree with you. There’s something very heartfelt about the other EO games and I think because, just in general, stories seem to be carelessly crafted nowadays. Even outside of the Endless Ocean world, there’s no care and there’s no creativity anymore, and without those things you can’t really have EO!✨

I am trying to like it for what it is..I really am. But I just can't. The ai has detected the same uml twice, hq analyzed the "new" thing and named it twice , and did the exact same cut scene. Shut up, sera and just let me dive. Ugh. There is nothing special about the maps, I agree with your assessments. This game was clearly designed only for group diving. I don't care about emotes. This may sound silly, but I also wanna be a girl diver with a name (other than my Nintendo account name). Very lazy of them to make everyone a male and zero character creation.

I'll probably wait for a sale. It looks a little underwhelming to be honest. I was looking forward to travelling around the world to different habitats. I'll stick to Beyond Blue for my marine biology fix for now, have you played that one yet?

I was honestly really disappointed with the game…it felt like the devs took everything that made the first two games amazing and beautiful and tossed them aside. The story feels like I’m playing Episode lol. I wish they’d bring EO2 to the switch. I’d pay good money for that haha

Sigh I started playing again and need to stop again. I really don't like that all the fish have that blue glow until you scan them. Even if you have already scanned that kind before. It's totally destroyed the magic of swimming around and taking in the beauty of the sea life. Nope, everything is glowy, need to scan scan scan scan! And no feeding, poking or petting them. I hope this changes later but I am this close to stopping it altogether. This isn't endless ocean. We're not even a character. Just a generic wetsuit 😢

Yeah I feel the exact same way about the blue glow. Just completely takes me out of the experience. I actually enjoyed the multiplayer experience quite a bit, but it leaves me feeling like we only got half of a game. It seems like Arika didn't really understand why people loved the first two games (particularly Blue World) so much. I'm not "upset" per say, but I'm definitely disappointed.

Bruh...I'm sorry to say but she does have what we call a life. She has mentioned that she works outside of KZfaq and mentioned that her Discord includes any amount attention and that includes her. If she responded to everyone on Discord she would never have a break. It's unhealthy to be on social media all the time :/ She isn't intending to "ignore" people, she just isn't online at the time and oh boy messages can just dissappear quickly. Especially since Discord isn't great with finding those notifications 😅
