Can endometriosis go away by changing your diet? Katherine Lawrence says it happened for her! She explains how becoming vegan just weeks before she was to have a hysterectomy changed her fortunes. Doctors call it a miracle, but she says the reason she is able to have children today is because she began eating a plant based diet. She shares her incredible story with “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll on this episode of The Exam Room LIVE. Her story was recently featured in the book Your Body In Balance by Dr. Neal Barnard.

i made a video on this topic and YT suggested this one and here I am.I was diagnosed with endo 4-3 surgeries,2 lost pregnancies, and 20 years later I finally managed to put my illness into remission naturally. IT IS POSSIBLE REGARDLESS WHAT,, GURUS,, TELLING YOU! NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF. And weight loss...for a long time i thought I am fat without realizing it was just a chronic inflammation-make anti-inflammatory diet a LIFESTYLE and watch the magic happens...not only you gonna lose weight, get rid of the pain and bloating but if you stick with it endo will become only a distant memory. It's my 3rd-year endo free! Sending lots of love to who ever reads this!

@@jolaaljakhbir Thank you so much for this information and glad you are doing better!!!! Did you have to eat organic foods before you saw a difference?? I tried plant based for awhile and saw no difference in my period pains, but not sure if I was eating completely anti inflammatory foods. I do know my health felt better overall in terms of better blood pressure, more energy, less palpitations etc & want to revisit plant based with an emphasis on anti inflammatory foods. Did you have to eat organic only? Because organic is so expensive here and I was wondering if that was the culprit for me. Also how long before you noticed a difference? If I dont see results within 2 cycles, I assume it's not working 😭. But not sure if it takes longer to get relief and if I should adjust my expectations lol.

the point is not a vegan diet .. the point is to avoid having peaks of insuline in your blood .. you can have this whether you followed a Chetogenic, a Vegan or a Mediterranean diet .. again .. the point is to avoid having peaks of insuline .. these augment the enzime aromatase .. and this enzime increases greatly the amount of estrogens which increase endometriosis .. so does not matter what you eat .. what is important is to avoid sugar based meals and refined carbohidrates ..

I went on a whole food plant based diet (including very small amounts of seaweed very occasionally) back in Jan 2018, as a result of info from the amazing Dr Gregor. This started working after about 3 days and just got better and better. I was free of abdominal cramps from it within 10 days. I still eat this way. I was diagnosed with endo confirmed by MRI in 2017. I am so so grateful for having found this diet. Thank you for what you do.

@@HoneeyBee3 hello, I use seaweed flakes (from lower iodine seaweeds - e.g. nori, wakame but not kombu) - I don't know about bladderwrack specifically but I have stayed away from kelp due to the higher iodine content. I put a few flakes in a cup, put water in and leave them to rehydrate. Then I drain and eat them. (At the moment I am using wakame flakes). I use 1g dried weight, max. I do this most days but it doesn't matter if I miss a day or two. NB: do not use hijiki/hiziki seaweed - there are various warnings about the heavy metals in it.! I should also say I am not a medical doctor. That, and a high fibre plant based diet has kept endometriosis symptoms in check for going on 3 years now. Really hope it helps you.

This video unfortunately suggests that endometriosis is caused by a poor diet filled with mac ’n’ cheese, which is definitely not always the case. I developed the first signs of endo while following a clean, “plant-based,” all organic, anti-inflammatory, etc. diet. I really don’t appreciate the suggestion that women with this crippling chronic condition somehow did it to themselves. The reality of many chronic conditions is that there isn’t just one trigger and often times the root cause can be a combination of factors. It is different for everyone.

I completely agree with you. My diet is good and I have endometriosis but I have to say my diet was terrible when I was a teen and early 20’s. I am now 31 but I feel my damage was done back then and I was also in a lot of pain back then too. There are genetic links which science has proven. What they don’t understand is why some have it through genetic but it doesn’t cause them problems when they operate on them which may be where food plays a part but definitely not solely a part.

Both Chuck and Dr Sardana do not suggest diet independently cause endometriosis. They both said it is likely a significant contributor in many cases. In fact, Dr Sardana states 26:40 it seems to be multifactorial. Suggested lifestyle approaches are: NUTRITION - aim for a BMI 19 to 23. helps reduce menses and adipocyte production of oestrogen. - eat a diet high in cruciferous vegetables for anti-inflammatory effect, and reducing excessive estrogen stimulation of tissue. - avoid dairy, replace with soy products. reduce animal produce generally. (this will reduce probability of early menarche). - avoid trans fats. ensure intake of Omega-3 fats. - aim for lower blood glucose levels. - consider a 4 day water fast every 3-6 mths. These can partially compensate for dietary indiscretions, and partially resorb adhesions and other ectopic tissue. HYDRATION and ACTIVITY/MOVEMENT - hydrate adequately, especially on arising and before midday. low fluid volume compromises the moisture content of the fallopian tubes, peristalsis, and cilia activity. Over time, the fallopian tubes can become incompetent moving eggs and fluid towards the uterus, thereby predisposing to retrograde menses flow. - do regular cardiovascular activity. helps to perfuse all organs with better circulation and reduces menses heaviness. - do yoga with abdominal breathing, pelvic floor contractions, and resistance exercise/activities. This improves pelvic blood flow and prevents adhesions. - adopt good posture without slumping (compromises circulation in the pelvis). - squat for urination and bowel movements. this reduces intra-abdominal pressure and the potential to push fluids retro - if suffering back pain, have it investigated. OTHER - retire earlier at night (before 9pm if working during the day). Late nights disrupt circadian rhythms, which reproductive and lymphatic activity are major players. - if suffering from fatigue, headache, and neck pain, get checked for intra-cranial hyper- or hypo-tension. Both can adversely effect pituitary function, which in turn effects sex hormone cycles.

I've been eating meat all my life! And I got endo. I've been vegan now for 6months and I was worried I'm making it worse by eating soy, legumes etc. There's just so much conflicting ideas, and advice out there. It makes it hard to know what is best for me. So thank you for this podcast. I'm looking forward to researching this issue more. I will say my fatigue has decreased since being vegan and my skin looks healthier!

In your research, include Dr. Gregor’s summary of the research over on Nutrition Facts channel. It seems phytoestrogens found in soy foods can have protective effects on the body as well. It has to do with the 2 different estrogen receptors we have in our organs.

I went vegan and it helped then I added in meat and there was no change so I kept eating meat for me it was dairy. I went vegan because my friends were vegan and it happened to help my periods but a few years later my insulin was all over the place so I added in meat and reduced carbohydrates and there was no change in my period symptoms. For me it was dairy and soy that make a huge difference in my periods almost straight away it’s very noticeable and it makes sense because of the naturally occurring growth hormones in dairy and eggs that is there for the baby animals to grow big and strong. I was vegan for 3 years then eating meat but not dairy or soy. I’ve been doing keto to help my insulin resistance still dairy and soy free my periods have been way better but I can’t say it’s because of keto because I lost 10kg on the diet in the first few months and the weight loss itself helps periods and insulin resistance but I can say that going keto has stopped my blood sugar going mental and my insane carbohydrate cravings from about 3 days in. My only problem with keto is that I was a healthy weight when I started it I’ve always been slim so losing 10kg is not the outcome I wanted and I’m finding it very hard to keep weight on on keto which is bizarre to me as I’m eating far more calories than I think I ever have! Dairy free soy free is what works for my endometriosis and low carbohydrate has really helped almost instantly fixed my insulin resistance although I imagine I would have to keep eating this way to keep my blood sugar so good. I didn’t lose weight when I went vegan just stayed the same so there’s something in this keto diet that seems to make people lose fat which in turn helps endometriosis as oestrogen and body fat are so intertwined. My point is that wether you are paleo or vegan or vegetarian or keto there’s different outcomes for everyone because there’s so many factors to consider. I don’t believe that plant based foods are the answer I do think it’s common sense that dairy which is made to grow baby animals big and strong would make endometriosis tissue grow also and that you can’t avoid these hormones as they are naturally occurring. And if you have endometriosis and your overweight then any way of eating that is going to help you lose weight is what will work best because we do have the science to know that being overweight for women leads to hormonal problems just as being underweight does. My period pain goes away completely when I’m underweight probably because my body decides it’s not a good time to ovulate so I have cycles but they are unovulatory cycles so my doctor thinks anyway. There’s definitely something in the dairy hypothesis but there’s a lot more proof on the overweight leading to inflammation and hormonal problems and oestrogen dominance than there is for dairy or vegan or whatever diet being the cure for hormonal issues so whatever helps you lose weight or balance your blood sugar if you have insulin issues is going to be the best way to reduce stress on your body and improve your symptoms. Vegan was not the miracle cure for me far from it I got low in iron and b12 and developed insulin resistance all those things made me sick and made my endometriosis worse or atleast harder to handle because I was stressed tired and my energy and mood were all over the place. And yes I was eating plant based sources of iron and taking iron and b12 supplements but for some reason this didn’t help since adding meat I’ve managed to stay in a normal range for iron and b12 on the same supplements.

Thought out the years I have done a lot research and participated in two research about endometriosis. I was diagnosis with endometriosis when I was 25 years old and now, I’m 44. I had surgery to remove a big cyst in my right ovary that they call chocolate cyst because is death blood. Also, my apendix had to be removed because the cyst affected the appendix. The cyst started to grow right after the surgery again and the doctor recommended some treatments. I saw a nutritionist and she recommended these natural remedies that worked for me along with taking the birth control pills. My doctor was open that I wanted to try these natural remedies but if I didn’t have a change, I would have done something different. The natural remedies worked along with the birth control pills but you have to be consistent. The cyst that was growing aging stop growing and got smaller. I know this because the doctor did and ultrasound after a month of taking the remedies. This are the names of the natural remedies you can buy at whole foods store or in the internet, you can buy any brand and for me I saw a difference after a month. Chickweed, Pau D Arco and Primrose Oil, all this are capsules. Take the Chickweed before eating and the others after eating with plenty of water in your three meals. Also, I changed my diet but I didn’t become vegan but I was careful with what I ate. A book that helped me navigate this and has good information about the sickness is: Endometriosis: A Key to Healing Through Nutrition by Dian Shepperson Mills. The book is from 2002 but has really helpful information I recommended. I started to take this natural remedies again as I develop endometriosis again at 44 in the pelvic area in the side where the endometriosis was removed the first time but not inside my ovaries. The endometriosis traveled outside the reproductive organs and is located in the right of the pelvic area but not inside. I will have a surgery to remove the endo but I’m planning to keep taking this natural remedies again until I reach the menopause because I don’t want my ovaries to be removed. I highly recommend to do research on natural remedies because they are not going to harm you and also changes in your diet but not dramatical changes. I avoided high amounts of sugar, no caffeine which played a big role in my case to cause pain. If you eat meet seek to eat organic and also, I avoided cheese and milk and some food colors, the book mentions this information. There are natural Mexican teas to help with endometriosis and the overall health of the reproductive organs. Do research in natural remedies, start your own journey and find what works best for you.

This isn’t true at all. You can fight the symptom-pain, fatigue and inflammation-but you can’t remove the implanted endometrial tissue through diet alone. The disease can still progress silently and continue to cause adhesions and scar tissue until it freezes up your pelvis or causes a bowel obstruction.

I wouldn't want to make assumptions on what you eat as a vegan, because of course I have no idea! But since being diagnosed with endometriosis I went vegan have found that eating as close to 'nature' is really healing and can put mine into remission. Aka, apples rather than apple juice. Fresh tomatoes are better than tomato puree or tomato ketchup etc. It sounds obvious of course (mess with your food = mess with your body, as a good friend of mine said!). But the less 'messed with' my food is, the better my endo and overall pain. I am currently experimenting with no oil and a low fat plant based diet, it's too early to say if that helps more than a general plant based diet. But I can 100% say that vegetable oils and transfats can increase endo pain. I basically eat a lot of veg, fruit, wholegrains, oats, a few nuts and seeds. I hope that helps! I also try to get a bit of something green and leafy into each meal (spinach or nettles in a smoothie, greens on the side of a meal). I also have a mug of warm fresh ginger and lemon with each meal. A lovely green smoothie I have most days is: mango, nettle, chia seeds, milled linseeds, 1/4 avocado, juiced orange, juiced lime, mint and lots of bananas. I blend about 1.5 litres of that a day. I throw in a bit of tumeric powder too as its antinflammatory. Also I feel better if a good ratio of my food is cooked. My ideal is probably 2 raw meals and 1 cooked, but it's often not achievable! I hope some of those ideas help and I'd encourage you not to give up, to keep experimenting and reading. And give anything 2-3 months to work. I usually have to give something 3 months consistently before seeing results. Endometriosis doesn't come overnight, it develops over years, so we can't expect it to disappear in overnight! Blessings in your journey x

Deep research show cases the true reason and factor for endo which is more than diet. It’s a thyroid issue that fails to produce the p hormone. And so much more I am barely learning about it’s too long ro explain. That’s why your body can’t break down gluten etc. I am trying to also get help and found a guy who commented on how he helped his wife when nothing else did the trick and it’s because doctors are so not up to date with the research on getting down to the primary “cause” not just treating symptoms. Yes diet can help but it is also a thyroid issue. stopthethyroidmadness.com/t4-only-meds-dont-work/ check this site for real material. I am still looking through all this as I am at a breaking point with myself and the pain. I want to find the root cause and it starts with checking my thyroid for underlying issues etc. I hope this helps and you find a solution on this site to help!

Hiya, I want to start my own cabbage-fermenting process, too, so I appreciate your comment 😊💖 do you think the colour makes a difference? Do you ferment the white types, the green types or the purple types cabbages? Is there a difference between the three? Is some of it healthier than the other, in your knowledge and experience? 🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬 Thanks 😊

@@violaevavenczel8378 that's great you want to start fermenting! I use mainly purple as it to me has more flavor and it is much healthier including more flavornoids and 10xs the the vitamin A over green cabbage. I often mix the 2 as variety is great for health and green cabbage does have more vitamin K over purple. I do highly recommend using organic cabbage and once you get it down try adding some orange beets too. It will ferment quicker with the sugar content from the beets. As I'm sure you know if you watch this channel often different colored foods are good for us so I like mixing them; green, purple with orange beets then I use multiple spices and herbs. I know you can make it using the burping method however, it seems to always make a mess and you loose brine so if you have the ability to buy it I would buy an air bubbler for your lid to allow the gas to escape during the process. Any other questions ask away. :) I love it and eat it every day ..oh bonus info I make the best quacomole and one of my secrets.... add a little fermented cabbage as it adds a wonderful zesty flavor! Yummy 😋

People got eating disorders, died of malignant cancers for refusing treatment so they could be like Belle. People with chronic illnesses made themselves so sick trying to be like her. It was harmful and disgusting. Now I don't believe that this woman faked her endometriosis but I do believe her story is false and exaggerated. You cannot go from stage 4 endo to stage 1 or 2 in 6 weeks. There are comments of here of people saying they are vegan but it's not working because they have endo and its not helping. Do you not see that history repeating? 🙄 stupid woman. Open your eyes to this absolute bullshit. "That's what they made you believe" who do you think you are. Hey @@teresagould6987 As per Dr Michael Greger & Nutrition Facts . Org, from what I believe, with regard to oestrogen, the body, your body, has Alpha & Beta receptors! Can’t remember which, but soy’s phyto-oestrogens latch on to the receptors which regular oestrogen would otherwise latch onto & potentially fuel endometriosis &/or cancer like in the breast tissue!

This video is misleading. There are plenty of healthy, fit women who struggle with endometriosis. Yes, an anti-inflammatory diet (dairy free, meat free, fruits, veggies, turmeric, quercetin, etc.) is beneficial to healing endometriosis. Yes, a diet high in antioxidants (coQ10, melatonin, vitamin D, omega 3, etc.) is beneficial to healing endometriosis. Yes, regular exercise is beneficial to healing endometriosis, but these lifestyle changes do not guarantee that your endometriosis will be "cured." As of 2022, the only way to officially diagnose endometriosis is via laparoscopic surgery. I would be interested in knowing how Katherine's endometriosis was initially diagnosed. If you review the scientific literature on endometriosis, you will learn that this condition is caused by tissue similar to the endometrial lining growing in your abdominal cavity and implanting on lower abdominal organs (bladder, uterus, ovaries, intestines, etc.). This is exacerbated by increased production of estrogen.

Indeed, and so are some of the doctors living under a rock. Many of them do not think diet plays a part in healing the body. Chemicals from big Pharma are the way forward, according to many people, whereas, a change in the way we eat, can make an enormous difference to our ultimate health. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, (and I speak under correction), doctors do not do much, with regard to nutrition, and good health, during their training to become doctors. I think the emphasis, is on what pills/surgery, will treat which conditions. So in other words, treat the symptoms, and not the cause of whatever has gone wrong. A good example is the “cure” for endometriosis, is a hysterectomy, at age 27!
