I was thrilled to hear Jay say that he "fell in love" with the Energica street model. This is a big PR boost for electric vehicles which are at least three times less polluting than the ICE counterparts. I would also love an Energica but it's frankly out of my price range, and to be honest, it has way more power than I can handle. In February 2022 I bought an electric RGNT Classic from Sweden. It is equivalent to a 125 cc, but has the torque of a 400 cc. It's more than enough to kill me.

What I love most about electric vehicles, motorcycles and cars, is they are market disrupters. It doesn't necessarily mean the death of the internal combustion engine, but rather the needed improvement and evolution over time to both. It provides another option or way to do what we already do and love. As a motorcyclist myself, I would love to get an Energica one day. I would also have to get a custom helmet to look like Boba Fett! 😀 Oh, and a Fennec Shand helmet for my wife!

The get roughly the same or less miles per charge than a petrol powered superbike ...when you get into standard UJM like a Triumph Bonneville, Honda CB series ..you speaking of over 50 mpg or more ... SO....what is the point owning one...??? How can you tell if these very expensive electric motorcycles are something accepted vs a petrol powered..look at the used market..already a glut on new model years from 2020, 2021...but owners are selling their electric bikes.. After mid-terms the electric insanity stops...not saying we should not seek alternative modes to power transportation..move gradually into electric things in general i.e. mowers, tools, etc..but FORCING it on Americans when we're in or about to deal w/ a recession..even Bezos says it will be bad ..selling $70,000 electric vehicles in which many dealers are adding a $10-$30,000 'surcharge' non-refundable $5,000-$10,000 down payments which is illegal by the way..is insanity when overwhelming majority cannot afford these vehicles.. nor will they tolerate those who force this climate-change electric crap on them either.. Pure fantasy and transitory .....after November 8th ..2022, Biden 2024....back to $2 gas. prosperity

@@carlmayer691 Unless you have severe brain damage, which you clearly have, you will understand that this is a premium product like most other sports bikes. The technology used is quite young which is why it's expensive, but price and range aside, these bikes are superior to any old Triumph or Honda you find on Craigslist. The "fuel" and maintenence alone is mere pennies compared to old gas bikes. Based on your writing skills I'm guessing you are quite old, so luckily you will soon be dead and us young people will have a chance to fix all the problems you caused. @michaelmaas5544
@michaelmaas5544 Жыл бұрын
@@deetjay if you think it will be cheaper in the long run you’re going to be disappointed. Gas taxes raise billions for state, local and federal government if gas taxes disappear you don’t believe they will shift those over to electricity? EVs are just like batteries made to be disposable like everything thing else in today’s society. Tire consumption alone should be a concern, with their weight they chew up tires at almost twice the rate of ICE cars. The amount energy used to mine the materials to manufacture batteries is already extremely high and we’ve only just begun 50-60% of cobalt is in the Democratic Republic of Congo, not a place with a great history of labor laws to say the least. It’s 40,000 estimated children are currently working in those mines for $1-2 dollars a day. It’s demand has tripled in the past 5 years and expected to do so again in the next 5. The mining of Lithium and nickel are also terrible for the environment. They are pushing a terrible solution to a problem that isn’t nearly as big as they have lead most people to believe. I’ve yet to figure out why they’ve all but pushed hybrids to the side. I firmly believe more people would be on board if they didn’t have to have “range anxiety” 🤦‍♂️ or know they could still jump in their car and go on a road trip without having to stop every 200-300 miles in search of a charging station. I won’t even get into recycling, power grids, fire hazards, easy manipulation of when you can charge or the fact they could totally shut your car down if they wanted.
@michaelmaas5544

@@NewZeroland I’m not sure honesty but jumping feet first into EV isn’t it. I responded to someone else here with a few reasons even the CEO Akio Toyoda of Toyota recently said it is overly ambitious to think we can rid ICE vehicles in the foreseeable future. There will be shortages of lithium and battery grade nickel in the near future guaranteed. And honestly I’m on the side of science that says man made climate change is nearly the problem we’ve been pushed to believe. Take a look into the International climate science coalition led by Tom Harris

Really cool episode, Jay! It will be interesting to see if/when hydrogen-engine bikes come forward and then compare how THEY ride compared to these electrics. Interesting that the sound actually makes much more sense, to me anyway, on/for a motorcycle rather than a 4-wheeler. Sexy bikes, too. Thanks, again!

I learnt to ride a bike on a Honda Dylan - so only have automatic licence. At the time there was only Honda with push-button gear-change, but the bike cost as much as a car to run. I'm waiting for the feet-forward electric 'Akira' type motorbike, with a canopy. As an electric car owner, I like the wooshing Star Wars sound-track, really impressed with these machines!

While I love electric motorcycles, I love the feel of the non-counter-balanced V-twin on my Harley (hint: that means it’s a touring bike, not a soft tail). That physical rumble (both sound and feel) was one of the only ways I could get my daughter to stop screaming when she was a baby (I’d just park her in the back seat and start the engine, and she’d be out in 5 minutes or less - and the crying would stop almost instantly).

A cool feature idea once evs have a large presence on roads and even new ice powered vehicles could be a sensor for bike riders safety. The sensors can be made to pick up a specific signal given by bikes that let the car and driver know there's a rider nearby just to instill extra caution around those vehicles now vulnerable on the road.

In a reverse scenario, I was recently cruising down a street on my road bike, pedal bike, at a decent 30km/h and was passed by a guy on an electric scooter, like a stand up kiddie push scooter with a motor...scale that up to a motorcycle size and for sure these things are fast.

7:45 Sorry. I love you Lawrence, but if you recall, I won the cannonball from Anaheim to Reno on a Ribelle. And the following day, when riding along side an Ego, both leaving with the same SOC, my Ribelle had greater efficiency (more remaining range) compared to the Ego next to me on our way to Lake Tahoe. Rewind a year earlier, I and the other Ribelle rider arrived to the last charge station just shy of the California/Nevada state line before the Ego arrived, and with a higher SOC. If anything, we’ve witnessed Ribelles having the advantage on long road trips. Worth noting I had my panniers attached for that ride as well. Given your expertise, however, perhaps the differentiating factor in these Cannonballs were the riders themselves (weight, height, riding position, etc) and not the bikes, but I’d wager the Ribelle, despite it not having a full fairing, is right there with the Ego in terms of efficiency on the road. Now if we’re putting motoGP class riders on the circuit, then the fully faired advantage surely goes to the Ego. Whomever designed the fairing and rider ergonomics on the Ribelle deserves recognition as it is a very capable and very comfortable bike to ride. And I’m so proud, thanks to you and Stefano to own one. 🇮🇹 ⚡️

@@austina4189 as others have stated, the range needs to be 2x due to the time it takes to recharge (same with electric cars, neither are there yet). A gas station takes less than 5 min. Charging takes much longer. Among many other issues including: 1. Power grid can’t handle everyone having electric vehicles 2. No replacement batteries that are affordable. I had a Toyota Corolla with 250,000 miles on it. The range on one tank was very similar to when it was new. Try that with an electric car/bike, it would be in a junkyard by then 3. How are we going to get the rare earth metals for all the batteries? China controls most of the lithium mines, are we going to rely on them even more than we do so they own us? 4. How are we going to recycle those batteries when they are dead? This is costly. Lots of issues that make them no more than a toy or a second vehicle at this point.

Some of my comments on Energica Bikes and what makes them so special for those that are interested, read below! Thanks! What's better about Energica compared to other e-bikes? Well, for starters... a lot. First of all, development was "driven," by an enhanced & accelerated pace due to Energica's participation in competitive racing at the highest levels. The Energica eGo was the ONLY electric bike used in a new professional e-bike racing circuit. The eGo maintained full exclusivity for the first 4 years so the platform could be developed in tandem with the new racing circuit as part of a contract that just recently came to a scheduled end as the circuit looks to go company-agonistic now that the foundation has been laid. The e-Go will continue to be used heavily in the racing circuit but will not be the ONLY bike allowed in the circuit anymore as they look to expand the circuit and races. Energica bikes were originally developed & then enhanced extensively based on the input of the racing teams & pros throughout the four years of intense racing competition. Watch the videos, nearly every race came down to the wire throughout those 4 years! Absolutely amazing, exciting races ... I can only imagine the fun those drivers were having! All the bikes were driven by the top racing names & team pros in the game throughout the entirety of the series. Part of the competition between racing teams includes making many performance based updates, changes and tweaks to the bikes in the spirit of competition and as they were being developed, tested and raced in the circuit. In the process, Energica was able to squeeze out just about every bit of improvement possible due to the intense nature of racing competition and in the process, they've managed to set the stage for future improvements as well as to set a high bar for the quality engineering and performance of the bikes in the future. They are also made using the best materials available & top-of-the-line competition or road-converted parts in all the important areas, keeping pace with the high bar for performance & quality set for the eGo during competition. They also have proprietary materials that make up the outer panels for the bikes- the original parent company to Energica (not Ideanomics,) owns the IP for making these materials & manufactures high quality, inexpensive to manufacture, sustainable materials used on the bikes beautiful, light- but very sleek & sturdy outer panels. These materials are also used for many other indications & in many other performance products aside from just Energica bikes. Energica also develops in-house the majority of its technology from the ground up which includes powertrains, sophisticated software for controlling the bikes & related electronics... among other developments. One feature or part which is not entirely unique to Energica are the Brembo brakes the Energica bikes sport. Brembo brakes are largely considered the best brakes the world has to offer. Energica motorcycles have the largest (by capacity, runtime) electric batteries available in an electric bike today, in turn giving them best-in-class range, durability, charging speed and performance. Unlike some other electric bikes, real-deal heavy duty chains do the hard work at the wheels. Some other e-bike companies use rubber which can snap at any time, potentially leaving the driver stranded. They're also constantly improving the drivetrain, batteries, software and the overall performance & quality of the motorcycles. This is evident in the great strides they've made in just a year or two with the new electric drivetrain delivering more range (~10%) and torque (5%-10%) at a lower weight and a lower center of gravity via its improved heat efficacy which also leads to a much improved maintenance interval in comparison to the previous drivetrain which was already leagues ahead of ICE bikes in terms of maintenance intervals but is now even further ahead having doubled the expected/tested maintenance intervals due to the much better handling of heat efficacy. The lower center of gravity provided by the new batteries & the new, lighter, more efficient drivetrain also allow for greatly improved maneuverability and less wind resistance. I could certainly go on but do your own research if you want to know more! The info is out there! Thanks for reading!
