I had to comment because after using this little technique adjustment I was able to really transform my forehand. So much more spin. I can’t get over how much this worked. Thank you !

Thanks very much! I haven't tried on the court (it has been wet here in Portland) but when I tried it in the garage, I could feel that my entire latissimus and longissimus are at work! I'm not a golfer, but can only guesstimate that this swing simulates a golfer's swing. Your no-nonsense instructions are the BEST!

i tried this and the results were amazing !!!.. before this video i struggled to achieve top spin, but with this lesson my forehand changed for the best..thanks so much for your videos...if any amateur or recreational player wants to improve, no doubt you are one of the best coaches out there...

Energy or Force is forward movement of Racket on the Ball, balanced by Top Spin, which pushes the ball down due to friction in air , any imbalance will cause a wrong hit.

Thank you! Do you also have a video on how to have proper lateral distance to ball? I think a lot of people suffer from hitting too much in the front because of not enough lateral distance leading to lost of power. This will probably relate to VVS and proper unit turn but it is tough to make it reliable.

Hi. Great question. I think hitting too far in front is less common. But To correct the contact point with feeling. Have you tried hitting two handed Forehand. Just to give you the correct point so you can go back to your one handed Forehand. Does that idea make sense?

@@oneminutetennis thanks for responding! I haven’t tried that yet, but it makes sense. I make better contact with both single handed and double handed backhand. I think I stop seeing the ball soon after bounce on the forehand.

Hi...I have beginners that are hitting side spin...do you think this will correct the issue? Also, the talk of a longer follow thru or a more inside out swing path is that out dated theory?...thanks and love the information provided.

the only difference if you ask me is that you have more internal shoulder rotation which makes it easier to go to thumb. but the action toward contact (flexion and pronation)are the same and right after contact its the ISR that gets more active. only my opinion

Very interesting. My Kid's coach is asking her to swing such that her elbow ends up higher after the FH for better top spin and more fluid stroke. I just tried what you advise here. Finger to Finger will never be able to achieve a high elbow. However, finger to thumb will end up with a higher elbow. I will need to check what my kid does the next time we go to the court. Also, just tried this myself and find that with a semi western grip it is kind of hard to lay finger on the tape at unit turn as the racket face is towards the the side fence. Is the main idea is to finish on the thumb and not worry too much about the finger part at the start? Am I missing something? I think you are showing a eastern fh grip and hence you can touch the tape with your finger.

Thanks for a great question. The real emphasis should be on the ending. And the thumb. Don't take any notice of my grips . I have mentioned this in an earlier video. I swap from Eastern to semi Western almost daily. I'm coaching, not playing, and the different grips prevent stress on the body. I even swap feeding grips. Let me know how it goes. @@bournejason66 Hi. No, not per video. I'm actually making a video explaining the service. First we have a one to one meeting to find out about your game etc. Then we make the analysis. Then we send it and make another meeting to discuss it. Then we follow up on how it's going. This is usually a weekly process and is included at€49 for a month. Many of the videos you've seen were originally made for specific online clients, to help correct their problems, and then we share them via KZfaq. Does that make sense? Would be great to help you or your daughter more. Steve

@@oneminutetennis Thanks for the response. In control-out of control-in control. Awesome way to get the desired result with things you can actually control. You mentioned this on the kick serve vidoe as well. Need to try the waiter tray finish. This one worked. I noticed that my kid pronates on FH contact already but not so much in control on the finish with the thumb aspect. Her racket was not on the thumb all the time upon finish. I showed her your video. She focused on the finish this morning and her coach was happy that she was finishing elbow up after her FH. He was not aware of the in-control on the thumb finish that my kid was focused on based on your video that was causing her to finish with the elbow up thus imparting more top spin and snap in her FH. I am now hooked on your videos :)

I’m a little confused. Fingers or a thumb touching the tape at the end of the stroke is all from the left hand grabbing the racket from inside out or outside in. How does that help what already happened on the right hand when hitting the ball?

If you try the movements... What happens is that too receive the racket with the thumb at the end. You will have changed the swing path of the racket during the contact with the ball. It is almost impossible not to do this. This is something that's hard to explain until you try it in real life. I hope that helps

@@oneminutetennis Thanks. The only thing that I notice when trying to do this is that it promotes low finish. It’s difficult to grab the racket this way with the high finish. Federer usually finishes in between where the non taped side of the racket rests in between his thumb and his index finger which I think it’s more natural.

I can’t help but be skeptic of why this will help for the same reasons widmer09 mentioned. However since your other videos were also unorthodox yet absolutely correct (some of which I discovered over the years via experimenting and analysis of top pros), I will give this a try. It would have been great to know why this works and why it promotes pronation though. Is it because of the lower finish position of the racket at the end of the follow through?

I tried your Spanish forehand by holding the tennis racket with three fingers and I did the same thing with the one backhand and both worked

Dear Sir, thank you for the most ingenious tip! I went to try it and it makes my tennis forehand much more consistent on the first try. (1) However should I treat this method as a permanent stroke or just a temporary one to improve my forehand swing speed? Because this way does make my shoulder a bit sore afterwards, with the elaborate pronation. (2) Does Federer use this "finger to thumb" swing path for his forehand? I tried watching his video but I couldn't confirm it. Some of his shots seem to end with finger to thumb, while others are finger to finger... not sure if I am watching correctly. What is Federer's forehand swing path follow through, can you confirm it please? Thank you again.

Great question. No don't use it all of the time. Federer always does it in his warm up. But then in matches, only when his forehand is going "off" I suggest the same. Think of it as a reset button that you can use to bring your Forehand back on track when needed. Does that make sense? www.oneminutetennis.com

@@oneminutetennis yes, that's a great recommendation. I will try hard NOT to use it all the time! Just that, I was whacking the balls real hard for over half an hour non stop against a sparing partner and 95% of my forehands with this method always go over the net and stay in the court no matter how hard I hit! Unbelievable. Why should I not use it all the time? Is it because it is not normal or will aggravate the shoulder if over-used? TQ

You will actually hit harder if you make the swing path of "finger to thumb" but finish past the hand. But if it goes off. You have a physical reference to go back to... Hope that helps.

If you can make the correct movement without your trick.. Then you are right. If not, then this is a really great way of learning the pronated movement of the modern Forehand

I don´t quite get it. The position of the fingers and thumb depends on what grip you´re using. Seems you´re using a chopper grip. The position of the fingers and thumb would be quite different if using an Eastern forehand, wouldn´t it?

Alright, I'm gonna go on the record and just say I have a hard time believing this one. So...I'm gonna go try it and I'll be right back. (Note that I do not THINK I have a problem with this swing, but let's see what the old luggage test reveals, shall we?) [ _French Accent:_ A FEW...MOMENTS...LATE-AIR...] Okay, I'm back! Well, it wasn't a complete failure, but there are a few confounding variables. For one, I am in a wheelchair. (It's a minor detail, yes I know, but I thought I'd include it just to be precise.) We don't really hold the racket with our non-dom hand during the unit turn. Also, we don't really make a unit turn, either. You see a few problems already looming on the horizon, don't you. I will say that I think it _does_ make you pronate your wrist more forcefully and quite unconsciously, so as a teaching or learning aid I think it's already tops. I don't know about the "catching with the thumb" idea, this did not make kinesthetic sense to me at all. I found it more natural to "catch' (really 'stop') the racket with again my fingers, my hand turned palm down. This worked for me, it felt natural and really made you get your racket 'round. So yeah, alright, I'll admit that it has some value. Especially with someone unfamiliar with the "modern" forehand/windshield wiper wrist action. Yes, then I think it would be very helpful. Good idea, very creative and kind of unusual. Good job! (as usual...)

Wow, thank you for your reply! I’m sorry my message was so painfully long, but I do give my feedback in the last two paragraphs. In short, I think it’s a novel and effective training tool for getting a neophyte to feel the sharp pronation required for the modern forehand. Why calls one minute tennis coach if spend various minutes ,unlogical ????

That's a very reasonable point. In various places and on the web site I try to explain this. I believe that if real teaching and learning is going to take place. Then the information has to be imparted in less than one minute. But that does not mean that describing what we are going to try and achieve and also explaining drills to reinforce that new movement have to be within one minute. I hope that makes sense. And thanks for a very sensible question
