Hyundai i20 is in its second generation now. The new i20 looks good from the outside, and promises a lot inside with its safety features. It competes against the likes of Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio or Peugeot 208. Hyundai i20 is also spacious. But is it any good?

I really like your expression: "It's one of those cars you buy with your head, not your heart". I think this will be a good first car for me.

Got one last month, absolutely love it. I love how quiet it is and how easy it is to drive. Love the (almost) flat floor between back seats and massive boot.

Such a great review!! Really enjoyed it! I still find it strange though that Hyundai would allow you to pick options such as heated seats, a heated steering wheel, lane departure, etcetera, but not actually give you the choice for a built-in sat-nav. Some manufacturers like Renault offer some of their cars with the Medianav as standard, and the premium R-Link at an extra cost, so I find it odd that Hyundai would only allow buyers to use a mobile phone with a much smaller screen for navigation, rather than giving the option to buy a proper integrated system. For potential buyers who are considering this car but had an integrated sat-nav in their previous vehicle, I think it would put them off.

DRiVEandRiDE TV I suppose it may depend on the local market preferences. In this segment in Poland sat nav is probably the last option people would choose.

nice video. I found you yesterday and ive been watching 15ish videos. Like your style of reviewing. Will you be looking at a peugeot 208? I saw that you had a gti version up but will you look at the normal one?

Klas Lilja Thanks. Yes, I have a 208 FL lined up some time in autumn. I can only do one review per week, so with all the new stuff coming out a facelift is not at the top of my list.

Marek Drives ah ok. Yeah I can imagine that there a lot of cars on the schedule before. Thanks for the reply though and I will have to wait until autumn then ;).

I recently discovered you. You are very good in what you do. Congratulations! One small thing I noticed. When you start the engine by turning the key, shouldn't you wait for one second? For the so called check engine? Keep up the good work! Greetings from Greece!
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Back in the day with old diesel engines you had to wait for the glow plugs to heat up (the little yellow coil light had to disappear, before you could turn the engine one). In petrol engines you just start the car, although it is recommended you give the car 10-20 second idle time for the oil to start circulating (especially on cold days). Just remember you're not supposed to keep a cold engine running for longer periods, because once the oil is circulating, you need to get it up to temperature, and the only way of doing it is through driving. That being said, for videos you just show a sequence of shows: doors shut, key in the ignition, start, gear, drive off, and all that takes seconds, rather than tens of seconds.

I'd go for the Mazda 2 or Fiesta. We don't get the i20 in Canada. The closet thing is the Hyundai Accent hatchback. The rear visibility isn't that good in the Accent.

hi marek, you mentioned the diesel version of the i20. was it the 1.4 90hp engine? if so, what was your impression in terms of "performance", sound level etc.? rather smooth or does it feel like a tractor? thanks in advance!
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 9 жыл бұрын
LLawliet182 Yes, it was a 1.4 90 hp. Very civilised at cruising speed. Not too bad around town, but there's no denying an oil burner is sitting under the bonnet.

@davidthompson4346 7 жыл бұрын
Marek Drives Yeah, the i20 seems the logical choice. It's roomier, quieter, more reliable and with a longer warranty. But damn that Clio is a looker, especially in red.

+Marek Drives is the i20 fun to drive, can u race it around town, my friend rented the Peugeot and it was fun. what would you recommend? and is the fiesta really that fun?
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 8 жыл бұрын
Purplefabian When I was young and foolish, I though Fiat 126 with tinted windows and "sport" sticker was relatively sporty. From this perspective 208, i20, etc. are great cars that you can hoon about in. Even better if they are your parents' cars, because then you don't have to pay for damages. However if you'd like to feel a bit of sportiness, Fiesta is the one to go for. And to make it really fun, you want the ST version.

Marek Drives thank you very much for answering! st is my dream but it also costs double as much as the i20 so I will probably buy the i20.

Your ''problem'' at 6:10 only happens, because the seat is positioned too much forward, compared to the length of your legs. Two reasons your knee hurt. Great video though.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 8 жыл бұрын
+CounterNic It's the closest I can get to a correct and comfortable driving position. The problem doesn't concern everyone, but it's something to look out for, when choosing a car.
@CounterNic
@CounterNic 8 жыл бұрын
+Marek Drives Sure is something to look out for. But won't you have a similar problem in other smaller cars?
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 8 жыл бұрын
CounterNic This one was particularly bad, because of the way the lower part of the centre console was shaped. That's why I pointed it out. In many cars the footwell wall is just flat all the way down. Here there's a tip/corner sticking out. I know it's rounded, but it touched my kneecap, so I think concerns about (at least my) safety are legitimate.

@LilNakz21

yep, that's why im having difficulties choosing the car. I can get the i20 1.2 premium (2016) for less than 10K€ and the polo 1.4 SE (2015) also for less than 10K. I like the looks of the i20 more, but the polo offers sat nav. I don't know what to choose =(
