Hey Nyoken, Fantastic group! Scan's TvP opening build order is an variation on the "Vulture (mine) Opener" it's noted for: 12 gas, 13 scout*(N pattern), getting vulture out before shop, researching mines first. Meant to punish nexus first builds with scv, marine, vulture bunker rush. But in reality, typically only close spawn Nexus first builds can get punished. I don't know the minute technical details, but it flows pretty well, even for non-booster like me. You need to check out their series in CNSL S7. These two really throw some haymakers on Apocalypse, my GOD! Scan is damn chef with the 3 and 6 tank timings, slicing right across the map. Typically armory and ebay are placed with 2nd fact around 530, seems like that tech gets cheated to allow for that 3/5 fact play to win before Protoss 3rd fully enables the gateway explosion. So those drop rushes with slow shuttle really testing Scans defensive micro. Stylistically, I love that Scan's TvP prioritizes defensively placed mines in his main or outside his nat. way more useful than the gotcha mines all over map. That early shuttle/dt period feels like walking a knifes edge before turret coverage sewn tight, and goliath range online, seeing scv putting up turret eat a scarab, truly feels like a Sisyphean task. But using mines defensively for outer base synergizes with timing push tempo, trading minerals for outer turrets for vultures in push, mines for def.

Second Scan vs Ruin game is one of the best TvP comebacks i've seen, how does that happen!

Poor Ruin..

Deciders game 1 shows why playing Terran is so awful. How many times does Protoss need to fail in order to lose the game? Failed zealot pressure. Failed followup with goon and 2 zealots. Vulture gets 2 probes while the goons fail to break the bunker. Reaver fails super hard vs the 3 tank push. So many mine hits, dead goons and zealots, vs 1 tank and a handful of vultures and marines. Ruin is down workers, just under even in supply, and even in bases at 2. Scan plays a near flawless game, then has a coin to flip. He can push in a game where he’s dominated the entire way, or take a third and leave the door open for the typical Protoss rubber-banding like triple expanding into carriers or something. Whatever Protoss wants to do is fine, they can do no wrong. The obvious choice is to delay the third and try to end the game because the longer you wait, the more likely Protoss fails their way to victory yet again. The push doesn’t work, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as any of the things Ruin had done wrong. You’d think Scan ran face first into Snow’s multiverse time travelling matrix Reavers. Suddenly Ruin is up 40 supply because of 1 favorable engagement. To “earn” this engagement was nothing special. Mush zealots and goons into the enemy until the vultures are dead, then the tanks are helpless. For Scan to get into that position required flawless play and decision making with relatively fragile and hard to use units. Just one mediocre push and the game is basically over. If Ruin had done any of the earlier things even half right, it’s more or less the same. Terran cannot do this in their “strong” matchup vs Zerg. Any failure is almost impossible to overcome. I’ve heard people say that Terran is the timing attack race, but it’s not entirely true. All of them are timing attack races. The difference is, Zerg and Protoss have multiple styles of timing attacks available to them at any given moment, even after playing super bad the whole game. The margin of error for Zerg and Protoss is immeasurably large, while it only takes one screwup for Terran to instantly throw a game they’ve played several tiers higher than their opponent. Now I’m going to watch the rest of this and see if Scan can make a comeback. 40 minutes remaining, so it’s doable. edit: Deciders game 2 is so crazy it might be a bugged replay. Then at 7 minutes of Game 3, Scan moves out into an arc of 7 goons that’s just out of bunker range. Gets wrecked. 10 minutes left in the video, so I'm thinking the game is going to end the way it should. Nope. Somehow another comeback from what should be impossible odds. This series should be preserved for future generations to analyze. I obviously picked the wrong series to rant about Terran problems. Regardless, the stupidity of deciders game 1 is a very common sight, while whatever it is that happened in games 2 and 3 is very rare.
