Totally agree I know he cares for her and maybe feels he's trying to help but seeing this part really irked me. It made no difference to the situation they're in with the brother going there. He should have let them be it was between them pair...I'm happy she initiated the split and stuck with it.. when I was on ep 8 I saw spoiler that they would break up pretty soon buy didn't see how they broke up I thought he was going to really hurt her by cheating or something I'm quite surprised she took the lead to breaking up as she was so obsessed with him

Why do you think Eric is selfish ? If Rose loves him, why she could not go to France? And why they could not keep the relationship even they are not living together for several years. But finally I think there will be solution.

@@allenmoon545 He is selfish because he makes decisions only for his own interest, he never takes her in consideration. Why should Rosie abandon everything to follow him to a foreign country where she cannot work or study legally? Why can he not return to China for her? Why do you always expect the woman to be the one to sacrifice? The solution is a breakup, because he is selfish and can only ruin her life for his self benefit.

我现在男友跟庄很像，我觉得主要是庄太自以为是，态度没有让玫瑰觉得被尊重，理所当然觉得玫瑰应该跟他一起去法国定居。女孩子吃情绪价值，需要听软话被哄着，特别是玫瑰这种被惯着捧着长大的小公主。如果庄提前跟玫瑰说自己想去法国发展事业，告诉她这件事对他多重要，希望玫瑰选择陪他，承诺玫瑰如果以后想回国等拿了绿卡再回去，我不信玫瑰不会妥协。这也是为什么女生容易吃感情的苦，因为会哄骗的男性才能满足女性的精神需求，情商也往往比智商重要，都是语言的艺术

庄的言行意图都是我我我，玫瑰已经请假飞过去给他惊喜可是得到的却是更深一层的庄的自私自利。我觉得玫瑰其实不是不愿去法国，只是庄的处理方式令她觉得不被尊重和信任。庄以自我为中心，玫瑰以“我们”为出发点，可是玫瑰梦想的“我们”从来都没有在庄那里出现过，最多把玫瑰放在第二位，根本没有平等尊重的“我们”。

@@RitardxSJ Green card? A Chinese national does not need a green card to return to China, unless they gave up their citizenship to become other country national. Zhuang hoped to get a 10 year residency card, not switch citizenship. Getting a long term residency permit in France is not easier than getting a green card in the US or in China.

He Xi is too young ; he and Meigui have about 20 years difference. He is an afterthought by scriptwriter who was not even in the novel, apparently. A frustrating role, really a guest role, for Lin Yi. Peng Guanying and Lin Gengxin accepted to be qualified as guest roles because of the transient feature of the characters, but they were really successive MLs. Jiaming and He Xi are too short lived or short staying in this story. In fact only Fang Xiewen stayed for long, and even after his divorce, in a modified, only supporting way.

In China in the 2000s? I think it had become very much like in the West, just less blatant. At least in major cities like Beijing and Shanghai. I saw people kissing on the street in 2006, and students were known to have their "love corner" in parks near or on campus of the big universities. All those college romance c-dramas showing that too. And some movies by major directors. Sex shops even were to be found in most cities, if that's an indication of the loosening of sexual morals. Finding a pack of condoms in the supermarket was as easy as purchasing a pack of biscuits for consenting adults. Rape on the other hand was and still is not glossed over when exposed, and would I think carry heavier punishment than what is discussed in this drama. Rape of minors : see the case of Kris Wu. Under a certain age, it still is within the scope for death penalty in China.

They all are howling "toxic" with the pack of holier-than-thou screamers. Dr.Lin Gengxin is a fine actor despite his unfortunate long past gaming nickname, that gets dragged up ever so often, in the hope to make him blush 😂 But he's got a wry humor and aloof stance. His characters are not always cute and liked from start. He also said he'd like to play a villain. But eh, Fang falls short as a villain: he loves his wife and daughter to obsession, and is too controlling, but LGX lets in touches of why this comes from the character's insecurity (as repeatedly pointed out by SuSu) not from ingrained evil toxicity ; so he will redeem himself although not to the point of getting back all that he lost. I wondered why Fang would have that inferiority complex : of course, he's not well-off, being an orphan from the at the time industrially depressed Dongbei, but status as Chaoxianzhu (Korean minority) would have gotten him a better education than average Chinese, and easier access to university, even access to local governmental work. So why travel all the way to Shanghai? Yes, of course Fudan has a higher reputation than Yanji; but Renmin or Qinghua in Beijing would have been closer and no less reputable. Of course, LGX was not the scriptwriter, so he followed director's instructions.

Meigui said she had 2 years to study (when Fang said he'd gotten an offer for a job in SZ but had turned it down to stay "two years longer in SH") and she gives birth around 2008 Olympics year, after having graduated and started work over a year earlier. To get some idea of timeline... I got my first iPhone in BJ in 2010, yes.

@@daisyy_days Difficult to erase all that does not belong to period (cityscape etc), but the story is about a woman from her 20s to her mid 40s. So unless do it in time travel to the unknown future.... Perhaps production should have used more green screen and studio instead of real locations. But that also would have been criticized, as were the beautiful cutting edge now fashion (Jimmy Choo clutch, Valextra bags etc) that did not faze me : it is a fictional story, so this just is pleasing to the eye, departing from period as in "after all, this still is a fantasy, not a documentary movie with embedded newsreels of the times.
