[ Lecture abstract ]
For proper tooth preparation, various types of practice, as well as principles and theories are essential. However, there is a big difference in between practicing on models and actual preparation intra-orally. I think these practical problems come across as difficulties for the clinicians. It is especially difficult to prepare areas like distal surface of second molar where it is difficult to establish direct vision.
Eventually, you will need to achieve consistent treatment outcome by establishing a direct vision. And to allow direct vision, the clinician will need to be in a correct position and place the patient's head in an adequate position, as well as applying appropriate mirror work depending on the situation.
These cannot be applied to all clinical situations like a mathematical equation. But, through preparation of second molars in each quadrant, which is the most difficult preparation, I will introduce most appropriate prep position and its access, and know-hows of mirror work that can be applied clinically.

Thank you so much for this video. Today was my first day of my entire clinical postings , my very first time in conservative dent department on a patient with maxillary quadrant caries and by my luck got 27 with restricted mouth opening with at it. I struggled so hard with my position and the patient position. Your video is of much help to novices like us Sir.
