In today's video, we will discuss the potential impacts of the increase in biodiesel in conventional diesel, brought by PL 528/20. Just like the recent project that aims to increase the percentage of ethanol in gasoline to 35%, this proposal also includes a gradual increase in the percentage of biodiesel in diesel from 14% to 20% by 2030.
You may be wondering: is this increase actually beneficial or harmful? Let's analyze the pros and cons of this measure. On the one hand, biodiesel is considered cleaner in terms of greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional diesel, which could contribute to the diversification of the energy matrix and reduce dependence on oil.
However, there are legitimate concerns. Diesel engines, from pickup trucks to trucks, can face significant challenges with the introduction of a higher percentage of biodiesel. Based on personal experiences, some have observed issues with vehicle components due to the current 14% biodiesel. With the increase to 20%, these problems are expected to worsen.
Older engines can be especially vulnerable to corrosion and other damage caused by biodiesel due to its solvent and hygroscopic properties. Additionally, biodiesel can promote the growth of microorganisms in the fuel system, leading to blockages and engine failures.
In this video, I will also share practical tips for diesel vehicle owners to deal with these challenges, including the use of specific additives and the importance of preventive maintenance.
If you are interested in engineering and sustainability issues, this video is for you. Be sure to watch to better understand the implications of the increase in biodiesel in conventional diesel and how this can directly affect diesel vehicle owners.
