Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

Oil pressure shutdown switch . Cuts ignition when oil pressure is lost. A bypass circuit is enabled when starting until oil pressure is established above above safety cut out level.

Get you a spark plug tester, I work on small engines, one of the best things I’ve bought

Pull that easy to remove spark plug and ground it to the engine, just like you mentioned checking spark on a Honda. Turn the engine over with they key and see if it sparks. Fuel injection doesn't matter or care.

We have a big boom lift on our farm … had the same issue with ours … come to find out after a couple of beers and few choice words it was the ground level cut off … so basically if the boom lift is on uneven ground which it was on flat ground it will not let it start…. Or u got a bad emergency stop switch !!! Hope this helps!!! Yee Yee

You should treat yourself and get an oil drain pan with the air evacuation kit. Great tool

Yes test spark the same way, you don't even have to take the spark plug out just use one you have laying around. But turn the engine over a few times and see if plugs get wet with Fuel. .

Brake clean in air intake is quick and dirty way to check if fuel issue

Squirt some cleaner in the air breather, or carburetor if it starts you know it’s a fuel problem

One of the safety items is probably screwed up. Sensor or something else. Usually always tied to that. Seen them quit running at the shop many times

Good video don't cut corners on maintaining equipment it will cost you in the future what is your plan for white mold in 2024 I have it in southern Ohio

Give her a couple of shots if either as you're cranking it to see if it fires. If it fires you have a fuel problem and if it doesn't fires it's probably a spark issue.

I would assume the inner filter has a higher merv rating (smaller particle filtering) than the outer.

If you use gas with ethanol and it sits up for a while it could be the carb , ethanol sucks

It was "rolling coal"...err steam...and turns out that...iirc...a bad egr valve/sensor, which was replaced a year ago, had to be replaced(under warranty) again?!?

As an individual who worked in automotive parts for over 20 years there is a difference with some filters. It is best to always use the factory filter or if you know who makes the factory filter that equivalent. Filters might look the same but lots of times have different uses and the holes in the top of the filter can be different sizes and affect the pressure of that particular application. And yes a cheap filter is a cheap filter for a reason. And for everyone beware if you look thru your warranty on most items they can and sometimes do void warranty if certain filter brands or oil brands are used. Manufacturers don't have to warranty their equipment when cheap components are used that are the actual cause of the problem. Just a heads up for all. Have seen lots of warranties voided in my time for these reasons.
