I was feeling quite exhausted today and was thinking about what else can I do in life or should I switch to a different career altogether. Mind you I have got 12 years of experience in IT.. and at some point in life you wish what if I have done this or that and could be much happier or successful. Watching this video is such an eye opener atleast to me where I have no clue what all it takes to make a career in other stream especially business or self employed side of things. So what has changed after watching this video? Now I can confidently say I am glad I did computer science and quite content with my achievements so far. Honestly it wasn't a smooth ride for me and it is still not. I still have my own fears and got to deal with the ever changing technology side of things and have to adapt it and always have to study and keep myself updated else you can easily be replaced in job market or become redundant or outdated. This video gave me more insights how an architecture daily life would look like and what all it needs to be a successful person in this field and now I have a clarity which was much needed for myself to stay happy where I am today. The first and foremost clarity I got is that I am not at all creative. I don't like to chase or convince people.. in short I can talk but I am not someone who will keep answering you why, what and how.. that's just not me. Though in IT as well we got several positions like people management where you got to speak a lot and build trust, making contacts, etc. However we still get a choice to choose as per your interest and expertise. I prefer to stick to the technical side of things which doesn't require much talking per se. It's more of like understand things and build it accordingly using computing languages. Secondly, If I had chosen architecture or interior or any creative stream.. I would have not got monetary support from my family. Not because they would have refused to support me but in reality they can't afford it so yes I needed money from 1st day of my job to pay my bills by myself. I literally had no money to invest plus I couldn't have afford any additional year or time at the beginning of my career. But may be now I can afford some time and money after a decent experience but like I said I am not a creative person at all so why would I even think to go to this path and end up taking that risk which I am sure will not work out given that I am aware about my weaknesses. One thing I understood it is that no career/course/study is easy. We got to involve ourselves deeply in any studies and work hard.. there's no short cut whatsoever whether it's a job or a business. However the only way you can filter things (from the various courses available now) in your life is mainly depends on your interests, curiosity, research, personality and most importantly your current financial situation. Life is hard and making a choice is way harder too. No matter what you choose we got to be committed and dedicated towards it, then only it will work out in a long run. At one point we feel we are bored or tired with our current duties and we feel rest of the people in the world seems so happy and flexible.. wish we had that same dream job or career. But look we really don't know what struggles they have and possibility we were not meant for this. So be happy with what you have and appreciate the little moments of life. Thanks Shruti for the informative video. Sorry for the long post.
