I Bought A 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat 2.0L AWD - My Favorite Pickup Truck!
Check out the Continental CrossContact LX25: bit.ly/442zj3i
Big thanks to Continental for sponsoring this video!
I have purchased a 2024 Ford Maverick to replace my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. This is the AWD Lariat with a 2.0L Turbo I4 engine producing 250 HP and 277 lb-ft of torque. It features adaptive cruise control, an upgraded sound system, contrasting leather interior, and a 4.5' bed with a tri-fold hard top cover. There are many reasons this is better than my Crosstrek - power, practicality, interior quality, sound system, functionality, towing capability, cargo capacity - it's a long list! However, there is one major downside - no manual transmission! I will truly miss the Crosstrek (who am I kidding, I won't), but I am excited for the new ride that's entered my fleet (of two cars)!
A big thank you to Continental, XPEL, and Elite Window Tint for their support; you can find related links below:

To address the comments, so that it's absolutely clear, yeah, I personally paid for the truck - this is not sponsored by Ford. Let's break this down: 1) If a video is sponsored, I *always* disclose that it is sponsored and say who the sponsor is. I intentionally am very obvious about this - I'm happy to be transparent; it's how KZfaqrs should be (and it's the law, if you're into that). If you're ever wondering "is this sponsored" on my channel, it's probably not, because I will make it painfully clear when it is (this video is sponsored by Continental, as disclosed in the video and in the video description). 2) Yeah, $40k (what I paid, before taxes) is a lot for a Maverick. Inflation also sucks. $40k today is $30k in 2016, which is when I bought my Crosstrek for $25k. This is a lot more vehicle than a mid-trim Crosstrek, for what is effectively $5k more. If you spec a *bare bones* 4-door F-150 with 4WD, it's $50k today. That's the absolute minimum, with only base features. Truck prices do be crazy. If you're concerned about price, get the XLT Maverick - as mentioned in the video it's the smarter buy. 3) I bought the Maverick because I think it's a cool product and it's useful for what I want in a vehicle. Ford as a company had no sway on my decision. I did reach out to Ford PR for X-Plan pricing, they helped me with locating a nearby dealer and settling on price - but you can go on the configurator yourself and see I am basically right at MSRP. Early days, sure, getting Maverick at MSRP was difficult, but the automotive space is catching up and gouging isn't as effective anymore. You can get these at MSRP now, if not under. 4) If you genuinely believe I'm going to try and sell a product to you without disclosing it, well, that's a bummer! I'm not here to trick anyone. I simply like the truck. I get that plenty don't. Options in the automotive space are a good thing. I buy what I like. You should do the same! 5) I just tested it and it turns out I am able to fit four bags of mulch in the bed, not just three (in case you were on the fence). That's a lot of mulch! Fun fact (for real) - Maverick actually has more payload than F-150 Raptor!!!

Yeah, i compared their dimensions to the old crew cab S10s when they where first launched and they measure within inches. Little longer, little wider and a little taller. Why? Because the Crew Cab S10 was the only 4 door truck i could think of when trying to picture the Maverick in person. Of course this was when finding a Maverick in the wild was impossible. The issue is the bed size. Back when they made smaller trucks with 6ft beds and standard cabs, they were very popular. Now they are all crew cabs with tiny beds, nobody who actually needs a truck wants that. You can fit more cargo in a 4runner easily. Edit: everyone in my rural area who owns small trucks just use old Tacoma's or Ford f150s/rangers from the 80-90s. I think you are drastically out of touch with the people who would buy a small truck. Nobody is going to spend 40k+ for this thing, you can get a used ranger or Tacoma for under 7k. 40k is the cost of a good used diesel 3500.
@pcgamer2020
@pcgamer2020 2 ай бұрын
@@username8644 Most people who own trucks do not use them to anywhere near the capability they have. Yes there are a lot of people in rural areas that do need them, but rural areas only account for about 15% of the US population and in urban areas a lot of trucks are just used as a status symbol. The $40k price point you mentioned is a bit of an exaggeration since that price is only if the truck is fully specced and not accounting for the $24k starting price. That is similar to saying nobody will spend $112k on an F150 without accounting for the fact that the starting price of that vehicle is just under $40k.

I bought a 2023 Maverick Lariat FX4 in Dec. of 2023. I had been in the market for a Honda Ridgeline, but none of the dealerships in my region wanted to be reasonable about the price and obviously did not need my business. In the last six months of ownership, I cannot begin to describe how lucky I am to have bought this instead. I love this vehicle. I bought a camper shell through Ford for the bed. (Overpriced, but extremely useful.) I have also installed a Cobb Tuning Accessport ECU Tuner, and Borla Exhaust system which have really awoken the engine with horsepower and torque. Just the right size truck for my needs, and fun to drive. I love the thought put into the interior. Highly recommended.

Those of us who grew up in the days of the small Toyota/Nissan/Ford truck know exactly what you mean. The truck was the do-all machine and its 0 to 60 times or how large you could make the cabin to fit 20 people in it didn't mean anything. What mattered was, will it start when I turn the key, followed by "what actual work needs to be done today" that this Truck is going to assist me with. Today, all I see is "Princess Trucks" that are so expensive that the owners never do any actual off-roading or work in them. To each their own I guess, but my Nissan Leaf with a trailer still does more work than most of the trucks I see in my area. 🤣

I worked on this car back in 2022. When I actually saw it in person I didn’t know what to think of it. It wasn’t a pickup, it wasn’t an SUV but still felt like it was trying to be both. Some folks even said “I guess it’s a pickup truck for the city(?)”. It felt like that identity crisis made it impossible to justify why we were actually making it. Until I realised, much like this guy, that it is in fact its strengths. A car that fits most usecases for an affordable price, it doesn’t make sense conventionally but we don’t live in conventional times anymore. Glad you didn’t get it in green ! P.S. for folks who are still not convinced, just think modern day El Camino

I have a '24 Maverick Lariat in that same color. The one difference is that mine is the hybrid. It is very nearly the perfect vehicle for me at this point in my life. I installed the Bakflip X4s hard rollup cover on mine. 25 mile commute in stop-and-go Atlanta traffic? 54mpg Trip to the big box store for weekend projects? 4.5ft bed 20x20 garage? It fits fine 5 hour trip to the beach for a week? Plenty of room in the back for luggage and beach stuff Road trip? Android Auto/Apple Carplay. Collision avoidance, blind spot detection, lane centering, adaptive cruise control, heated seats & heated steering wheel (Lariat only). My only gripe is that the drivers seat pan doesnt tilt. At 6'-6", I too am long and lean. My butt does get a bit uncomfortable after a few hours in the drivers seat.

What's funny is I call the Hyundai Santa Cruz a 'roided-up Subaru Baja. The Maverick is meant to be a small truck that is still as practical as possible while maintaining as much benefit for being small and affordable. The Santa Cruz is more luxurious but it's not as practical and is several thousand dollars more (Yes, you can tow more in the Santa Cruz but it gets the same fuel efficiency as the Ford Ranger while being much smaller than the Ranger and a bed that isn't as practical as the Maverick). Basically, the Ford Maverick is a vehicle for people who want a truck - but don't want a /trrruuucck/. I'm not sure who the Santa Cruz-Baja thing is for...

This thing is absolutely perfect for most people. I’m getting as high as 54mpg average on some of my in town driving while being careful with the throttle. It’s by far the nicest vehicle I’ve ever owned and feels just so nice cruising around. I love the looks. They just downsized a truck rather than pulling the Hyundai or Honda thing and trying to make it look all weird and futuristic. These are just going to keep selling as fast as ford can make them for people like myself that don’t want to pay for a full size truck (both with the up front cost as well as your over time cost of ownership). It’s all the truck that most truck guys actually need. If you don’t need to impress the other guys with a big truck, which seriously seems to be the main thing anyone has to say bad about these trucks lol.

I had a 2004 Tacoma and I like this truck much better. It carries more weight. ( I regularly haul 1500 lbs of plaster in it). It seat 5 actual adults. Has more internal storage than the Tacoma. A 120 V outlet in the cab and in the bed. And the bed and tailgate are designed to accommodate 4X8 sheet goods without issue. Oh, and with 250 hp and 8 gears it goes like a rocket when I want it to. @@1chumley1 The used ones I’ve seen online are mostly hybrids. I just checked and there are about 8 for sale within 50 miles of me. They came up for sale when folks realized they need the towing capability more than the high mpg. And a LOT of folks who bought the cheap ones are selling them at a slight profit. They paid 20K and are getting 22 or 24 for them. A friend of mine bought a brand new hybrid, with the off-road package but not the towing package, about a year after I bought mine and he paid about $1,000 over sticker. 32K. The prices did go up this year, because the truck is so popular, and it’s the only thing Ford is making right now that is selling that well. But the ones I’ve seen with only 15- 20k miles on them are still ranging from 22k to 28k depending on trim. The ones that sold the first year for 20 are for sale with low miles for 22K. Still considerably cheaper than anything you can buy new. When you consider that a similarly equipped Ranger was Starting at 45k in 2021, the Mav was a better truck, with more load capacity, a higher power to weight ratio, more interior room and storage and better laid out bed for 15k less. You will pay as much or more for a 5 year old tacoma with 60k miles on it. But the only metric the Tacoma beats over the Mav is towing capacity.

There are legitimate needs that the Ridgeline is not suitable for but for me and many it serves the purpose. The Ridge has a V6 engine that requires a timing belt replacement at intervals but it has been trouble free. It is certainly not suitable for those that drive large trucks for the macho status. What are your thoughts on why you would pick the Maverick rather than the Ridgeline?

I share your excitement about Maverick. Especially because Maverick Hybrid has a 2.5L engine that seems to be derived from Mazda L, which is in my 2010 Mazda 3. This engine is very reliable on its own. With Toyota's eCVT it should be bulletproof!

@@MainInternetUser I'd bet everything I own that a civic will carry everything the average person need for 99% of all trips. The 1 trip per year you need to actually haul some stuff, you can rent a truck for $135/day here in Vancouver.

@@sachammwhy do that when you can buy a maverick that does everything the civic does, while being a better car, that also gets the same or greater mpg
@sachamm
@sachamm 2 ай бұрын
@@Rudenbehr Because nothing you said is true? Civic is cheaper ($23k vs $25k), more reliable, more comfortable to drive and ride in, gets better fuel economy (25 mpg vs 31 mpg), is cheaper to insure, and is safer to drive (4/5 vs 5/5). The only reasons to own a Maverick or a pickup in general is if you need to haul large loads on daily or weekly basis, or you have money to burn and collect cars, or you've been brainwashed by advertising. I'll leave it to the reader to decide which reason applies here.

A new Maverick has been on my list since they first showed up. It's not going to replace my Powerstroke for hauling my 5th wheel or car trailer, but for 99% of everything else I need it'll be a perfect replacement for my wife's Explorer. Like you, I live in Idaho, so AWD/4WD is a pretty important deal. Thanks for your imput and review on this. Like you, I think it's about the most perfect vehicle for the intended purpose. Just a note, on the tailgate, when you put it in the half up position, it puts the tailgate at the same height as the wheel wells so you can haul full 4x8 sheets of plywood with them supported properly. Thanks again for yet another great video.

It's insane how large trucks have gotten. I didn't really notice until I saw a first-generation S-10 next to a newer Chevy Colorado in a parking lot. Mid-sized trucks are basically the size of 1980's half tons. Bring back mini-trucks. Radical dude!

It’s great to see some smaller trucks out there, easier to load much more fuel efficient, less maintenance less expensive heavy parts, safer in the event of a crash with another vehicle pedestrian/cyclist. If they had a plug-in hybrid version it would be perfect!

Have my 22' Lariat Hybrid. Loving it still! Get ~45mpg, not expensive to fill up either. A bed cover is definitely a must since the back seat space is small especially if you have a passenger in one.

I got one a little over 6 months ago, very similar to the one in the video. I'm getting between 25 and 30 mpg on my daily commute which is 40 minutes of highway driving. When I need to get garden supplies or a few 2x4s, or something else that's dirty or an awkward shape, this pickup handles it well. When I need something that can pull a trailer down the highway or handle an entire pallet of supplies, I can borrow a full-size truck from work. The other 360 days of the year? I get a comfortable ride and good fuel economy.
