As I listen more I feel like the engl maybe to treble heavy. The compressed trebly sound starts to sound lousy after a while, where the Mesa still sounded warmer and rounder. Imho. Thanks for the video test.

This is actually very interesting. Makes you realize how useless all these amp demo videos on youtube are. At least this one is kind of funny.

Salut!! Quels beaux amplis.... ils sonnent tous les deux à merveille... mais pour ma part, l'ampli de faible puissance (mes mots sont relatifs bien sûr) qui se rapproche le plus du Mesa est le Evh 5150 lbx. Qu'en pensez-vous ?

je ne sais pas du tout . ce qui est sur , c est que le fireball est ma prochaine tète . pour du death ou brutal death métal , ca a l air de faire son taf . la différence qu' il y a au niveau prix entre le ironball 20 watts et le fireball 25 watts est de 50 euros . en bref , pour 50 euros , 5 watts en plus ,et un noise gate intégré a la tète . j ai bon fireball !!!

I actually own both of these amps and that silly EQ pedal as well. I play through a Mesa 2x12 vertical slant cab. Both are serious high gain amps that do not mess around, both loud enough to play with a band. I prefer the Engl because of the power soak feature which allows for great bedroom tones. Generally I prefer the sound of the Engl, I find it a bit smoother, the Mesa is raw, and even on the 10w setting I find it a bit too loud for my apartment. Will look into getting an attenuator and see if it helps. That EQ pedal does not do either of these amps justice. I'd like to try out an Empress EQ and see how that one does. The Engl also has reverb, if you're into that sort of thing. Both amps have a warm high gain sound but the Mesa has better cleans imo.

The empress EQ turns these into bad ass heads. I personally don't prefer graphic EQ pedals, although 5 or 6 bands can sound good, especially the ones found in Mesa amps. They are more "mix" friendly than "guitar" friendly you could say. I use an old school Furman PQ-3. I recommend that one more than the Empress one. But if you're wanting a pedal more than a rack unit then the Empress is an excellent choice

Yeah that MXR is basically crap. It has so much hiss to it that it just screws your tone. I use mine with the volume and gain almost all the way down to elimate the hiss and there is still a bit. That's the only way the EQ is usable. Danelectro fish and chips is a better EQ for a fraction of the price. And the Empress is just an insanely awesome EQ parametric if I remember right. I've parametric eqs are the ones to use for guitar as most of the time you don't need a 10 band or greater EQ.

Salut, l'EQ est actif uniquement à la fin des tests en disto, lorsque c'est indiqué en bas de la vidéo. Quand les LED sont éteintes, il n'est pas actif.

Et c'est pas dommage d'avoir mis un eq, parce que du coup on entend pas l'ampli "nu" ? Quel était le but de cet ajout? (C'est pas pour troller hein, le test est très bien au demeurant, je me demandais juste le pourquoi de l EQ)

Boris B Pas de souci, il n'y a rien de mal à poser des questions. Tu entends le son des ampli sans aucuns effets pendant toute la vidéo sauf pendant quelques secondes après avoir eu les distos sans effets. J'ai rajouté cet effet car, pour moi, c'est une des rares pédales à être vraiment utiles et qui permet de tirer le maximum d'un ampli sans en modifier le grain.

+grand master flash Sauf que si tu trouves que ça sonne bien avec l'EQ MXR ajusté comme ça, tu fais passer les québécois pour des sourds lol. Il n'y a presque plus de mids. Ça donne l'impression de donner un boost quand tu joues dans ta chambre, mais en band ton son disparait.

All that eq should have been used for is killing the infamous mesa hiss, take the high end out with the pedal and turn it up a hair in the amps eq... Dont scoop your mids out like that, sounds bad...

All amp head enclosures should take a lesson from Engl..Those tubes need air to keep cool(and everything else). Who gives a crap about a $5 piece of aluminum tread plate on the front???

I know this is an old comment, but aluminum is a really good heat conductor. If it were made of steel, then it would be a bad design.

I dunno guys, the amps sounded bad before the EQ pedal kicked in. Either way, too much gain, scooped mids, high presence, probably potato mic'ed. So much wrong. I use this EQ pedal and a TS clone into an Orange Micro Dark(probably a worse amp than these), and get better tone.

Yeah man, I play metal too and you should never ever play with an eq like that. I run sound for a living and when I get bands in that play rigs sounding that bad I spend all my time taking out the hiss and adding the mids back in, then they tell me how great it sounds. I've played with old school death metal bands in the past and I was always heard over the other guitar players because my rig didn't sound like shit. If you want to hurt peoples ears and sound like shit, rock that eq! Lol There is a way to get a scooped metal sound without being painful and hissy, it takes time patience and not a eq pedal.
