Come with us for a peaceful snowy drive and a stroll around the quintessentially English village of Castle Combe, often named the 'prettiest village in England.
Here's a few things you may or may not know about this quaint little village:
- Castle Combe is a small Cotswold village in Wiltshire, England, with a population of about 350.
The village lies about 5 miles northwest of the town of Chippenham and 14 miles away from Bath.
- It was built in the 14th century from stones of a Norman castle.
- Within Castle Combe you'll find a Market Cross and St Andrew's Church which dates from the 13th century.
- As you can imagine, it is perfect for picturesque filming locations. The original 1967 Dr Doolittle was filmed here, and in recent years major Hollywood films have been shot here such as Stardust (2008), The Wolfman (2009) and in 2010
Steven Spielberg shot scenes for the film adaptation of War Horse.
Music by Edgar Hopp 'In Abundance' & Erasmus Talbot 'The Sanctuary Within'

There is so much beauty on this planet Earth isn't there? being English I treasure the gorgeous countryside and villages that we have all over Britain. Walking is free and if you're fortunate to be able to walk, get out there, it's more therapeutic than any medicine. Thank you for this lovely dip into the Cotswolds, an area I've walked in many times in past years with my husband. Unfortunately he cannot walk far now but I still go walking on my own sometimes or with a friend. The world is a troubled place, but at least we can appreciate nature's beauty around us.

But it’s these beautiful places with all the amazing English gardens ( so very different from American gardens) and the cobbled stone streets and the places that have an atmosphere of having been there for 100s or a thousand years that call to me! I feel I could loose myself in England forever❤🇺🇸

Well, to avoid nowadays high costs of heating in Germany this and the next winter, you can get to such a UK countryside and get a job as a janitor (snow-cleaner) to admire this beauty daily... Next time you would not vote for the social democrats and the greens who killed all the Germany's nuclear electricity plants🤭

Thank you Bear and Bean for your film, showing us the beauty of Castle Combe in winter, decked in snow. The music chosen was cinemascopic, swirling and melancholic. The melancholy is poignant. I lived in Castle Combe from 1959 until 1979 - the Malt House and the Weavers House. The story of this village is the story and parable of the fate of many places that come to the attention of prying and inquisitive experience seekers - tourists. Castle Combe was voted the "Prettiest Village in England" - there many other prettier villages and their inhabitants breathed a sigh of relief that they were not the ones chosen. Then came "Doctor Dolittle" ...and people came to see the dammed up River Bybrook, replete with fishing vessels and fresh fish from Billingsgate covering fake rubber fish. I was a ten year old boy living on film set for a year (1966) with live llamas, parrots and circus tent and Hollywood stars, it was a dream. The year that England won the World Cup, too ! My family had the only colour TV set and all the extras replete in their costumes, the film crew too, watched the final sitting on the lawn in our garden.. then Ranulph Fiennes (yes, it was he) tried, and failed, to blow up the dam holding the water that had turned Castle Combe (which is 60 miles from nearest coastline) into a fishing village. He was protesting that a place of natural beauty was being destroyed by an American film company. We got cable TV from 20th Century Fox which was unique for a village..oh! no. no TV aerials were to spoil the uniqueness of our ancient village ! I will leave my stories here lest you get bored. Just to say remember that all this useless beauty has a price. Communities die if the people who hold it's fabric together..the baker (Mr Hammond) the Grocer (Miss Eels) the dairy (also Eels) Mr Hamilton (village school teacher) Miss Smith in the Post Office ...puf, all gone ! Like so many places. No one knows the residents of High Street row of cottages...they don't see to live there, except at weekends. The village is a shell, it's become a film set..."Slow Horses" is the latest. Enjoy it's beauty, when no one there, as you tried. Leave your car. All of you !! Walk. Walk down the river valley. No one is supposed to park on the hill. (The car also killed the village when the M4 was built) And think of the people that once made Castle Combe a living, working community...now long gone..you can but carry on in a fantasy (film?) world. It IS beautiful though. Except the golf course which is ....don't let me going.

I live in the cotswolds, near this area. The small cottages are so pretty, but were meant for farm workers. They are, of course, expensive now, but they are usually quite dark and small inside. The video shows cars parked in the road, because the cottages have no parking space. Yes they have character and pretty countryside around, but as a disabled person I prefer living in a warm and light modern house (not that I could afford to buy one of those cottages).

That is very beautiful. If we had pedestrians & buildings that close to the road, let alone allowed to drive those roads, there would be too many accidents here in the US. People here have no respect for no shoulder roads, for pedestrians, even drivers in a parking lot plows through the walls and doors weekly and that's not always for destruction on purpose or burglary. But your countryside is absolutely gorgeous.

I've seen Americans on KZfaq in Britain surprised by people walking a lot. I guess cos our country is smaller! We are used to going slowly when necessary, and a lot of give and take is needed! @@emilydavison2053 yes, our laws for pedestrians is the same but it sure has lost value. And everything is very fast...so you really got to move your tail feather when the "walk" light says GO..heaven forbid you're an elderly or use a wheel chair, better grab on tight. I've noticed the increase of drivers on our roads don't adhere to many road laws. Its terrible. I love to walk but I've cut back greatly due to that and safety from weirdos roaming freely. It doesn't bother me to have walked 2 miles to work and 2 miles back daily or ride a bike (unless its 3rd shift) for work, run errands & such. Была в этой деревне весной, потрясающее место. Надеюсь англичане и дальше будут хранить свой образ жизни и свою историю как в этой деревне.

I live in Seacoast New Hampshire where currently there are people of influence trying to make one of our local charming towns, Portsmouth in fact, ‘better’ through ‘ improvements’ to the historical center of town. I ALWAYS shudder with trepidation when people come up with so called forward thinking plans ultimately destroying what makes the place so loved and oft visited by others. I’m praying it NEVER happens!

This is relative, because to me (in my eyes) the most beautiful village in England is Folkestone,in Kent. I love that place more than any where in the world, and I've traveled a good larger chunk of it

It’s was one of the most beautiful days out I’ve been on, it was sunny but not that busy we had such a lovely walk around and a stunning meal in one of the old pubs there! Absolutely recommend to anyone who has the chance to go there do it.. It’s been used as a few different films ie.. Stardust, The Wolfman, Parts of War Horse among others, also just down the road is Castle Combe Racetrack where you can just sit back and watch the racing cars or experience driving one first hand.. The whole of the Cotswolds is with worth visiting great for a few days away 😊
