Castle Combe is one of the most popular Cotswolds tourist destinations, nestled in the south of the region. It boasts an amazing high street with golden gabled houses, a fantastic church and a lovely river.

I'm English but now live in the US. One thing I notice so often in your videos and others like them is the lack of telephone poles and wires everywhere. It much more beautiful without them. The US is absolutely covered in them. Some day they will figure out that we wouldn't have so many power outages from storms if they would start to put it all underground.

I live in a town in Colorado that had the foresight to put all utilities underground back in the seventies. You’re right it makes a huge difference. And because we get heavy snow and ice (or use to) and high wind and lightning, power outages are also a thing of the past.

I will most likely never be able to visit these marvelous places, and thus your intrusion takes the place of many like me; so this angry church protector should be grateful! Beautiful filming and locations as ever. I agree Elizabeth I was quite more the man than Harry :)

Beautiful village of Castle Combe with buildings that will still be standing when the modern rubbish they build today will be long gone. A joy to watch as always, many thanks Robin.

I live right by the Solent Sea and beach which is across from my home, so it is an absolute delight to sit and spend an afternoon watching your beautiful Cotswold videos of splendid stone buildings and the green lush countryside as my views are the wonderful sea. Thank you so much for bringing the mainland country to my screen, and your luscious voice. 🌹

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical glimpse into Castle Coombe which I hope to visit this week. I will be on the lookout for the church custodian 😀 and will have my defences in place.

There's a team of volunteers at the church. On the day we went, in the middle of the period of mourning for the late Queen the village was pretty busy, but the lady in church was lovely and friendly. She spent ages talking to my brother and sister-in-law about all sorts of things. I took photos/video of absolutely everything (on my phone). I think poor Robin was very unlucky the day he was there. I hope you get our delightful volunteer and not Robin's gorgon!

I had a similar experience during a visit to the church in Haworth, Yorkshire. It must have been the presence of the tripod, though my work is purely hobbyist, but I was greeted by the same sort of reception as you did here. It's a shame- while not religious, I have a great respect for these structures and enjoy documenting them, and most churches are more than welcoming. However other, more tourist-swamped places are less welcoming, which seems to defeat some of the point of the church.

I liked, not only your professional filming, but also your mention of the former INHABITANTS of Castle Coombe. My distant forebears were shepherds in this centre of the the former wool industry. Some of them also sang in the former church Minstrel Gallery - something lost in the 1850 rebuild! But Castle Coombe was no idyll for the poorer peasant, quite unlike the modern second home owner, my ancestor owned no property. At the beginning of the 18th. century, he WALKED all the way to the City of London where he got work in a Coffee House. From there he prospered - but that is another story. But I am glad I dont have to live in Castle Coombe either. All those tourists constantly flocking past the font door, and second home owners, and the phony tourist 'tat' - no thanks!

To think, if Stephen hadn't had an upset stomach, he would have been on the same party-ship as Henry "The Young King", then it would have been Theobold who took the throne from Matilda.

The mention of the old faceless clock was tantalizing to me as an amateur horologist - would love to see more on that - but it rather sounds as if the lady custodian might have been less than happy to let you film it.

please tell me....why do not see the local people walking about? for eg: chn, mum with pram, elderly??? I went to Castle Combe. It was my first stop into the Cotswolds by car. I parked in front of the church on a rainy day which made it all the more picturesque. There was no one about but me and I felt as if I had stepped inside someone's home. No one home? cheers Vicki Melbourne Australia
