I'm gutted we lost but I thought it would be cool to note that the Australia vs England game broke Australia's all time TV record - 11.15 million people tuned into the game, which is 42% of our total population alone! Not to mention the thousands at live sites and stadiums and the people watching on the official paid Optus Sport platform. Just unbelievable vibes here in Australia. Thank god Sam got her moment to shine at least ❤

As an Australian, the game looked fair, the referee was good. The Tillies just looked like they had burned through way too much energy already this tournament, especially after the 3 hr affair against France. They looked determined at the start, but shaky and running on fumes before too long. Kinda don't want England to win on Sunday now, but they really do deserve to. Leading into Saturday against Sweden, who have had an extra day's recovery, I will be seriously impressed if Australia can pull that game out of the hat. So happy with the overall energy of the whole world cup. The ticketed attendance is apparently up 50% from 2019 in France, plus add all those public big screens. Clearly Women's football is rising high and I hope we here in Australia can use this event as an inspiration to fix our poor development system and strengthen the talent for the Matildas of the future 😊😊

I am English. I am so glad Sam Kerr got her "moment" after all her injury problems. It was an incredible goal. But England were the better side in this match. The tackles and time wasting were fair, it`s a contact sport and Australia put in a lot of their own too. So happy for the Lionesses. If England win the final, Lucy and Keira will be the first players ever to win a Champions League and World Cup in the same year. Come on England!

So a couple of things: Firstly, that shot of the people outside celebrating Sam’s goal was in Federation Square in Melbourne, not Sydney. Second, I’m a Matilda’s fan and whilst the England game plan was certainly to foul Kerr and Foord and not let them break on them quickly - that is a fair tactic to have. They were also most definitely time wasting - but again, that’s also ok to do. In both cases, you might get yellow cards for professional fouls and time wasting - but the Aussie threat was quick transitions so it makes sense to have a plan to slow them down. I don’t begrudge the lionesses doing what they did. Lastly; Millie, Sam, Guro Reiten and Erin Cuthbert are all best friends at Chelsea. They hang out a lot and when Kristie is in town, they tend to go out as a group a fair bit. And Millie is straight - so, maybe she gets to be friends with whomever with no drama lol

@@PlayingDownUnder “dirty” is really the wrong word. Dirty would be trying to injure players, thereby removing them from the game. Fouling in order to slow down transitions isn’t dirty - it’s a tactic. The whole point of competitive sport is to work to your strengths and mitigate your weaknesses. England’s strength was keeping possession and build up play. Australia’s was breaking up play and quick transitions. Makes sense for England to mitigate that by not allowing australia to progress quickly up the pitch. There is a reason fouls don’t earn you a straight red card - they’re part of the game. It’s not dirty to foul so long as it’s not dangerous. Repeatedly doing it will eventually attract a yellow but that is a tactical thing as well - push it as far as you can without getting carded. Australia just don’t have the depth yet to compete with the best 2 or 3 teams in the world across a tournament. In a one off match they can - but australia lost this game because they had run out of gas by this stage of the tournament because the same 10 players had basically played every minute and Kerr and van egmond had split the time of that 11th player. Australia needed 4-5 more equally talented players to rotate in and out and they aren’t quite there yet.

Look at the match stats, and see Australia 17 tackles, England 16, so who tackled most? It’s just the ref, especially, in the first half ignored tackles, by the Australia team. I’m of the opinion, she was fearful of being targeted by the Aussie crowd. She was very biased towards Australia, a couple of the yellow cards given to English players were, ridiculous! Yes an American ref, with questionable decision making. Sam Kerr, scored an excellent goal, but had several chances after, to score, but couldn’t, put them away. England played an absolute blinder!! They deserved the win. Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 our girls have been outstanding!!!

Tackles aren't necessarily fouls. Australia had four fouls for the entire game and no cards. England had eleven fouls and two cards. We know that England is a physical team and knew that they would be hard on Sam. The game was as expected. It's just that where Australia failed, England didn't. The Hemp and Russo goals were lapses in defense, and Sam missed two clear chances before Hemp made it 2-1.

The ref was definitely affected by the crowd, several non fouls, just contact, given against eng and also fouls/as much physical contact by australia not given. But thats normal, thats why having the crowd as the 12th player is always important, they are there to hassle the ref, but normally as a viewer you can stand back and see it for what it is, you shouldnt be fooled by it.

A few of the Chelsea players are very close concerning their friendships with one another, I just think the mainstream media are trying to create something that simply is not there. I have the upmost respect for the Australian players, it was unfortunate for them that they didn’t win. The referee was terrible in this game. She was totally on Australia's side. 4 late tackles on England players in the first half alone, that wasn't given as free kicks. That ref was Australia's 12th man. And since when was it against the rules to tackle Sam Kerr, when were the rules changed? England did what every team, in men's and women's football do, including Australia, the running down of the clock, time wasting if you prefer. ALL TEAMS DO THIS. So please, Aussies, no complaints here. England were playing against 12 players today, and we still got the job done Australia are good people, but they're bad losers, they whine alot when everything doesn't go their way.

Don’t know what game you watched, old Nick, but your team tried to take out Sam Kerr illegally, even commentators questioned why England didn’t get cards for that. England played well and beat us but you will not find an Aussie that is not proud of our Matilda’s.

I find it ridiculous the first half free kick count was 9-1 against England. Yes there was a booking for a professional foul by Greenwood on Kerr but as already mentioned in a previous post here there were 3 or 4 late tackles on England players not given. Considering England went into this tournament without two of their best players having to make changes to their defensive system and in my admittedly biased opinion also experiencing some dubious refereeing throughout they have done absolutely brilliantly.

The time wasting at the end was inconsequential, 3 - 1 up at that point. Australia started off physical especially with Haley Raso. That was always expected and no injuries and only 1 yellow card in 90 mins with Kelly's yellow at the end meaningless at 3 - 1 up. She did it to wind up the crowd possibly and after 90 mins of booing why not. You got further than all but 2 teams. Australia should be very proud. And the Aussie press misquoted Serena, she said "Austrailia isn't just Samm Kerr". They were always going to spin the story that way. The game was extremely fair and the girls plan to disguise passes in front of goal worked. Tony Gustavsson trying to compare the friendly in Brentford to this semi final was laughable. 2 years unbeaten before that game and it was a friendly.

I also think the media put way too much pressure on Sam Kerr. They made her out to be able to single handedly win the game and the cup... Even though she missed all of the group games with an injury. Great video : hard to disagree with any of the points you make. As an England fan I watched thinking the ref was giving England no decisions: so its interesting to see that post match people are saying the ref favoured England. Perhaps it was just a happy medium in the end. 3 cracking goals (+ 1 more!) and it was good to see Sam get her goal: easy for me to say now that we are through of course. To all those who are moaning about England now (and have moaned about other teams before) I think you are missing the point here. I started watching women's football and quickly found that its easy to like all the teams. I would be happy for any of the teams on show to win the WC. My feeling is that with women's football I want all the teams to win, and with men's I only want "my" team to win. So its much more satisfying to watch the former.

My heart was rooting for Australia, but my brain knew that England would most probably win. The Australian game was, for a long time, too much centred around getting the balls to Sam Kerr. Sam Kerr scored a magnificent goal, but Australia really got stronger when they tried scoring goals by different players. As such a successful co-host, which after the first 2 matches nobody thought it would get far, reaching the semi-final really inspired a whole country. I cross my fingers that Australia will get 3rd on Saturday. In the final, I'll definitely be rooting for England as I don't want a Spanish success, upon which the Spanish federation will then say that they didn't need the rebels to be successful. There are friendship triangles in many different ways. If Kristie Mewis was able to attend the semi-final, she might also be able to attend the third place match. I wonder if DvD was also present yesterday. I expect Ann-Kathrin Berger would be able to come to the final as Chelsea still has quite a few English players at the tournament.

And there were many of them. Worst one when a pom clearly went in for a tackle on Kerr aiming at her legs, and everyone knows she has had a calf injury. So ok, she got a yellow card, but what if Kerr got injured and had to go off? Anyway, enough of that. I agree with you two, Allanah Kennedy was a massive loss. And also it was the first start for Sam Kerr in this World Cup. She wasn't up to speed so to speak. Also, Tony what is your deal with subs!? Mayling travelled to Australia to watch the Lionesses matches, she posted a picture wearing Daly's tshirt and there was a 'what's mine is yours' comment underneath. Daly posted a picture of them a few days ago in a very coupley looking embrace and they're always commenting love hearts on each others posts 🥰

Not sure if Rachel & Sam hugged after the game but if they didn't, then there's definitely something there. I believe it's just awkwardness which is completely understandable, but let's not forget sportsmanship. Leave your personal problems off the pitch & show good sportsmanship with eachother. It doesn't mean they have to be buddies & go out for drinks after the game but it shows maturity & respect as fellow footballers. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if Sam & Rachel were ever friends? They played in the Nwsl around the same time for awhile & in football everyone knows eachother & most of them are friends because if they were, then I can definitely see why there would be a problem. Anyways, I wish them all success and happiness they're all great footballers in their own way

Sam kerr goal is a phantastic super goal. Alone taken the ball hard hit from more distance. Super goal. But England goals are unexpected. Last goal player deserved. Australia goal keeper may be played well to block the ball.

Wasting time should be heavy penalized. I wish it was like other sports where the clock simply stops when theres no live ball play.

Time wasting is part of the game, every team does it. But what people are really saying, is ‘it’s ok as long as it’s not England doing it’ same for the tackling. That’s the BS, as someone, so eloquently, puts it. By this stage in the game 3-1, there was no way Australia were going to come back, from that. Did you not? See the look! On Sam Kerr’s face, when Russo scored, she new then, Australia weren’t coming back from that. But they have done their country proud. The have hosted the best women’s World Cup tournament, to date, it’s been outstanding. But frankly we don’t care what anyone says about England, our girls have been absolutely amazing and 100% deserve their place in the final. The whole country is behind them, bring FOOTBALL HOME girls. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️🏆👏👏👏

I mentioned this before. The leagues have addressed all these by penalizing players. We saw two yellow cards given for gesturing to the referee. I think England started time wasting very early. In the sense that they had about ten minutes to go still and then Russo scored so yes at that point it didn't matter if they wasted time and even the Australian team didn't protest as much with England time wasting coming to the end. They didn't stop fighting, but I think they had already accepted. Their body language was loud.

Sam Kerr looked great, but of course, the England players weren't allowed to tackle her, the hometown referee decided.

England went out with a policy of attempting to injure the more prominent Aussie players and the ref did not issue red cards. This is the same tactic the Black Ferns encountered when they played England in the final of the Rugby World Cup.
