WHen I saw the new loveseat I was so happy as the old brown couch is the only thing that makes this room feel off. But then you didn't swap them out. I loved the two wings backs in front of the windows with the new wood blinds. And the new loveseat where the old couch was would look perfect, I think the buffet looked much better in that little corner then the wing back. I am probably the only one who preferred the green bookcases . because it was a bold brave choice. Neutral is too predictable. But this is what makes you happy. Its really coming along.

Yes, Ma'am! You nailed it. He is THE reason every video happens and this channel was his idea in the first place. I cannot say enough about how the success behind the scenes is due to him. The couch is his favorite thing in the whole house so it stays until he wants it to go. Thank you for looking at this sensibly and kindly. I am an older English woman, who likes traditional cottage style. I think the fabric on the loveseat is very French, but no worries; the English are people of eclectic tastes. I thought you really nailed it with the china fox terrier!

We've been living in our new home for 14 months and have been slowly doing up each space as money and time permits. We purchase most things from thrift stores, restore furniture and buy other things cheaply on sale or at Kmart. My thoughts and experience is to decorate slowly and to your budget, regardless of how low it is. With all my homes, everyone has always told me how lovely my home is and I've always had to do it with an extremely low budget. Though with patience, DIY and creativity your house becomes your home.

I am inspired by your patient approach to decorating...it is the best way to achieve a "curated over time" British country look. My husband and I are downsizing for retirement. We purchased a smaller home and moved in 3 weeks ago. I am re-mixing our best furniture and treasured possessions. I had to give myself permission to start decorating the newly painted walls knowing that I can change it if I don't get it right the first time. Snug and familiar trumps perfect every time!

The bookcases and the decor in them is a home run. Here are some suggestions: Put loveseat in place of the couch and bring back the wingback chair. Remove the couch. Too heavy, crowded and not the right style. White wash the bricks for a softer tone to remove the orangey look. Paint the wood frame on the mirror to and aged gold. Do a black undercoat and the add golds. Some black always looks good in English country. These changes are cost friendly but will make a big impact. You made some great scores on marketplace.

Hi Rachel! I love the darker mantel and the khaki on the bookcases better than the green color. Very nice! With that huge, gorgeous window you could have real plants in the room- one on the window seat, one on the mantel, and one at the edge of the fireplace would look lovely and bring life into the room. I also love the bamboo blinds and the new sofa. However, I liked the two chairs flanking the window. I would have left the chairs there and replaced the brown sofa with the new floral one perhaps. In any case, the room has really come a long way. I love the changes you've made. Thank you for sharing the process with us.

Wow, those bookcases *really* brought the room together! Great call on the light khaki color-it very much brightens up the darkness in that area & calls attention without overpowering the space. I love how you stay faithful to that traditional English Country style with a multitude of layered colors, patterns & textures. I feel like most most creators on YT that have a similar aesthetic lean a little more contemporary and neutral (which isn’t bad!) but I definitely crave more color and a sense of old-fashioned-ness like what you’ve done here :)

Hi Rachel! I quite like the painting on the mantel. I have to agree with Cindy. Take the brown sofa out. Move the loveseat where the sofa is now and put the chair back by the window seat. It will be fabulous. I'd try the bookcases closer to the mantel too. 'Gotta think about the Feng shui of it all as well as the beauty. Thanks for sharing your journey with us and inviting our thoughts and ideas.🙂

Hello, Thanks for the feedback, I love the painting too! The sofa will be staying for now as Matt enjoys the full length. At some point as budget allows he will get another one. As for the bookcase spacing, once the mantle is fully designed the available space will be different and the bookcases will be moved accordingly.

Love the room but have a few suggestions. Take the large ble vase off if the left shelf...much to big for there. Maybe move it down to the hearth alongside the fireplace and add dome greenery in it. Also...maybe remove the rose pattern throw from the wing chair...slot of patterns in the room which can be distracting to the eye.

Looks great, keep an eye out for a large silver tray you can use on the ottoman/coffee table. Also, a large basket with a lid would be great on the bottom shelf behind the end table. You can store games or extra decor you find you use for seasonal decor.

Love all you've done, Rachel! And that beautiful loveseat you found is the cherry on top!! The room is so cozy and inviting...just that kind of English snug you needed! I do tend to agree with the others on the brown sofa. But I also realize husbands need a comfy place to recline/lounge on at day's end or whenever. @@StoneCottageHome Rachel...I just did what I so dislike when others do. I should never have commented about your sofa b/c you never asked anyone's opinion about it. I should've refrained from giving any comment whatsoever. It's up to you...if you and Matt like it, that's really all that matters. The couch is still a nice-looking couch. I've been in the same situation many times with our own home, and it's okay. I love all you do, and your living room redo is no exception. So please accept my sincerest apologies. Those bookcases look fantastic and that loveseat is GORGEOUS!! 😮 Wow! What a find! I agree with others. It would look great if you could feature it on the wall where the brown sofa is and ditch that sofa but I understand this is your living space after all and most of us want a sofa in our living room! If that’s the case, perhaps you can find an affordable soft color (creamy ivory) slipcover for it. I’ve purchased a couple over the years that were super affordable and decent quality. The room looks incredible! You’ve done such a great job pulling it all together and achieving that English Cottage look! I’ve truly enjoyed watching you work on it step by step. 💗
