Dear Venerable Cheng, I have been away from your channel for a couple of years. With all that's going on in the USA, the elections, COVID, riots, etc., I was pretty angry all the time. I need to listen to you again and to find the peace that I once had from your teaching. So much hatred going on and I need to get rid of it! A Di Da Phat (Namo Amituofo) 🙏

Depression has many causes. If the cause of depression are biological problems, meditation will not help. You can't heal most biological problems by meditation. It's not that easy.

Nobody said not to get medical help when needed. There is evidence in medical research that indicates meditation is helpful. Nobody is making any snake oil claims guaranteeing cures for anything.

@@brucewilbur2586 how does your statement relate to the question about reincarnation?
@brucewilbur2586
@brucewilbur2586 4 жыл бұрын
My statement was meant as an alternate use of the money you are willing to gamble on the existence of reincarnation since the argument is at a stalemate at this point in time using only what you are calling clear evidence. I can not prove it any more than you can disprove it with what you are calling clear evidence. Our senses (eyesight, hearing, taste, smell, touch) are very limited to what our bodies needed to survive a few years on this planet. Many discoveries in science came from inductive reasoning beyond what we could see before we could find a way to prove them with "clear evidence." The gravitational lens is one example. Likewise 70 years ago, I couldn't have offered you any clear evidence that quarks existed, but they did and they do. Since we can't prove or disprove reincarnation with what you call clear evidence, I will leave it up to you to do your own investigating and use your inductive reasoning to form your own conclusions (and I will respect you and your conclusions). As Albert Einstein said, “The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend a personal God and avoid dogmas and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description.” Thanks for the discussion. I wish you the best.

I don't like this talks about 'ego is something wrong'. Sorry my friend but "there is not collective stomach". If you eat and I don't, I'll die, not you.

Your body and mine are both going to die. They way you think when that moment comes might be different than the way you are thinking about it now. In the meantime, why not get rid of the suffering the ego causes?
@adammobile7149
@adammobile7149 4 жыл бұрын
@@brucewilbur2586 from one perspective our ego feeling is necessary to survive. If you are hungry you should eat. But of course on ultimate level our conscusness may be independent from our body. But nobody have evidence for it.
