Honda CBR650R | The best everyday sportsbike?
After spending several weeks with Honda's middleweight sportsbike, is it any good doing the normal day to day stuff that us daily riders have to do? Join me as I take the CBR650R on the motorway, through town and ride it at night to see how it handles these real world situations. Is it really any good as an every day sportsbike?
Many thanks to Honda UK for making this video possible.

Povilas what is the CBR like in central London. I've a light naked bike at the moment and it's very easy to filter. I don't filter like crazy but do move up through the gaps when I can. I'm afraid the CBR turning circle and weight would be an issue in heavy London traffic.

@@davidg2116 It's brilliant for traffic, my previous bike was NC750S it's famous for being very good in traffic and I was really surprised that CBR is actually better. I've owned one since May 2019 and I've reluctantly come to the conclusion it's time for something more comfortable. I think it's a stunning bike to look at, and as you say, it does everything you want and it is a fast bike when you pull the trigger and get the engine over 8,000 rpm, but my shoulders can't take any more punishment. It's not the bikes fault, it's me getting old, but that aside, it's a lovely bike to ride and in over 5,000 miles it has performed flawlessly and it is a machine you can trust. It's easy to ride, the gearbox is crisp, the handling is predicable, the brakes are good, and it will give you what you want, performance wise, when you want it without any unpleasant surprises.

Shame, loving mine as my first big bike at 56 yo! I got a bargain too a mid 2021 bike with 241 miles on it and an original owner (Born again biker) who decided his ageing bad back couldn’t stand a sports bike any more! So O save about £1,500 on a new bike. Just did 2,700 miles to the Austrian Alps and back and despite over 4 hrs per day riding most days some 5+ it didn’t break me! Just love the bike.

Hey 007! Good to have you here. The Triumph feels a more agile and has a bit more torque low down. The CBR has more go to it once you get it up in the revs but I've not ridden the unrestricted S though.

i bought the 2021 and took delivery few months ago. so far i've put around 1,5k km on it and it's a great all purpose sport bike. An Arrow Pro Race makes it a different animal though, now with a complete exhaust it sounds perfect but i must admit that the stock pipe wasn't bad at all. I'm waiting on GB Racing to put out an engine cover set so i can protect those nice bronze-ish carters.

This is my daily rider, it just does everything and isn’t too stupidly expensive. The riding position is sporty without being a back and neck killer. I’ve ridden it for two hours at a time with breaks. Stock exhaust is wicked. Tank is small but it is good on fuel. No wind blast for me, compared to an adventure bike with a short screen. Takes panniers no problem.

Hi Graham, did you ever ride the CB650R? If so, what did you make of the comparison to your CBR650R? What I’m really interested in knowing is if there’s much of a difference when it comes to wind blast. Obviously the CBR should be far less having a screen an all, but maybe the CB isn’t so bad.

Loving your work, friend, thank you kindly for sharing. Was there much difference to the 2019 and prior versions that you noticed on this new one, Dan? Do you reckon the Trident could spank its tail-tidy, or do you reckon that could be a totally different beast? P,us, not sure of the price difference but do you think the extra money justifies the Aprilia 660 over this wee beast, mate? Thanks Dan, ride safe, friend
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. This is in fact the 2020 CBR which is identical to the 2019 model. I am hoping to get the 2021 updated model very soon so I can take that for some tests too. Trident is a different bike tbh. A bit more agile and torquey low down where as the CB and CBR get going higher in the rpm's. In a straight line both the CB and CBR would outpace the Trident but in the twisties I'd say it's a fairly even match with the Trident having an edge in agility and handling. It's very close though in reality. I've not ridden the Aprilia yet so I can't really comment. I imagine it'll be awesome to ride but not so sure it's worth the extra ££ when you could just get a Triumph Street Triple R or RS for similar money.

@Valks-22
@Valks-22 3 жыл бұрын
Can say the same, numb throttle hand past the 90min point - but nothing not solved by shaking it off or a short break. However nothing major or... impactful in terms of vibration. And no issues with knees or arms or legs in general. I put a taller PUIG screen that eliminates nearly all wind even with the mildest tuck.

I recently did a 10 day tour of Europe to the Austrian Alps (From the UK). Despite around 8 days riding averaging over 4 hours per day I didn’t get a numb hand or anything else bar a calluses verging on blisters on my palm just under the fingers but my son on his Ducati V4S had the same but much worse. I find the vibration on the bike mild even spending hours over 100 MPH on unrestricted Autobahns! There is some but I don’t find it a problem at all. I have on occasion done a 2.5hr ride to my sons house, 2-3 hours riding with him then 2.5 hrs back so 7+ hours in a day. Can’t pretend I wasn’t happy to get off at the end but it’s never crippled me and I’m 57!

The Aprillia is a great bike (in black, can’t say the other colours gold or red with a purple tank appeal Yuck). But a lot more money for the riding modes and TFT screen over the CBR650R that couldn’t justify, then Hondas reliability is streets ahead of the Italian!
