This was really helpful. I've had my S1 for a few days now and just got the RA2 today (it shipped separately). I was hesitant about the tumblers, but this helps. You are correct about the S1 videos. They are limited in multiple topics. I've seen some pics in the Xtool FB group of full wraps on the big 40oz tumblers but haven't figured out how they account for the size variance from top to bottom. I appreciate you making this.

Nice jig setup for the RA2, with that being stationary, and using the chuck, you could put a mark on the right side enclosure that aligns with the guide rail once you find the center, then you can go back to that spot without measuring for the center, as long as you're using the chuck.

Many thanks for that tutorial, it has cleared up a few grey areas. Do you think you might do something similar using lightburn? The crumb tray on my s1 has to be fasted to the bottom of the riser. Thank you very much for this video! I used the setting you recommended and engraved some solid color tumblers. They turned out beautifully. However, when I engraved a rose gold coated tumbler with power100 and speed 500, some of the engraved area look brownish. I wonder if the power is too high. The rose gold coat seems to be thinner than the solid color. Do you have any suggestions? I am using S1 with 40W as well. Thank you in advance.

Try timing the different speeds with a stop watch, I got the S1 and recently discovered that engraving at 600mm/s is actually slower than engraving at 300mm/s since the time it takes for the laser to accelerate and decelerate for a higher speed takes more time than going at a "slower" pace. Now my processing time is much faster and the machine barely moves around.
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack 5 ай бұрын
Yes, it will also adjust the speed down if you get near the edge of the area. It is wild sometimes how things can effect the results.
@dillonohrt1903
@dillonohrt1903 Ай бұрын
I was going to bring this up too. I have a design that I had set to go at 500 speed and it would have taken 15 minutes flat. Changed it down to 350, decreased the power from 100% to 75% (better for laser longevity anyhow) and it knocked off 39 seconds. Doesn't sound like much until you count the fact that it was a bulk order. ⌛= 💰

I've been having a heck of a time with getting tumblers to take full wraps. Is there a way to extend the xcs canvas to that I can have it wrap a stanley. When I try with the s1, the canvas is too skinny for the wrap. It seems goofy that i can't use xcs to fully wrap a tumbler. Am I missing something?

The software should turn off the Y axis limits when using the rotary but I haven't tried. You could set the machine up in lightburn and create a profile just for tumblers with a larger Y work space. This way, you could set the axis as big as you wanted.

@@TheClackShack good call. I went to Lightburn to get the full wrap setup making the y work area bigger. Appreciate the help. Just grabbed a few more of your jig setups on etsy today. Apprciate all the good stuff you put out.

Just tested my machine in XCS with your issue. Try spilling over the bottom of the work area and not in the top. Apparently if you put the extra out the bottom, it works. Who knew?

Higher speeds need to be a large size or it becomes slower with small engraving sizes due to the over run the module needs to travel to engrave @ the set speed. I have done months and months of testing. I have had the S1 since the beginning of June

This is applicable to all lasers using a similar gantry system. The engineers design in this over-run to reduce stresses on the gantry, but remember it only reduces them. High speeds still force the motors to work harder when switching directions, so it affects the unit's lifespan as well. Most people (YT creators I've watched and myself) have found they get similar or slower times when going over 200mm/sec on anything under 3-4 inches (or large jobs that have lots of directional changes), so using this slower speed doesn't really effect run time at all, and gives you better control with laser power and longer motor life.

If you are in XCS, I believe they have limits set. These are only 75mm. The RA2 cannot support anything bigger than that without it hitting the bottom.

Really? You've replied to every comment on this video? How do you ever have time to make anything? All kidding aside, That's a great way to run a youtube channel and an Etsy shop. I'm probably going to get the S1 soon. I'm sure that means I'll need a few jig files from your shop. By the way, you have a pass to not reply to this comment! Go make something for your friends or to sell instead.

I wish i would have watched this video before trying a tumbler....I watched the xTool video, set it up exactly like they recommended....WELLLLLLL the RA2 jumped on me in the middle of engraving and I'm assuming broke my distance sensor....Now my laser is down until I can get a new one. UGGGGG I'm now gonna watch all your videos before I try anything, at least once I get a new sensor. I hope that's all thats wrong with it.
