I have no problem with hunting, but hunting creatures that take more than 10 years to develop to sexual maturity and with their numbers rapidly decreasing due to poaching should not be allowed in my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts. When it comes to regulated hunting (not poaching), only mature bulls are taken. And it's regulated hunting where the communities and government benefit, that pays for the anti-poaching efforts. Thus, if you want more elephants, allow carefully regulated hunting...otherwise the alternative is poaching. It's easy to research these findings--Kenya being the most notable case where a hunting ban led to the annihilation of their herds at the hands of poachers.

The kruger national park in South Africa is heading for total ecological collapse due to over population of elephants. Roughly a capacity of 8000 elephants can be sustained, but the numbers are close to 40000 now. And thanks to the greenies of the world, culling and hunting is banned. Once the eco system collapses, more than just elephants will become endangered.

Numbers are increasing exponentially. Its one of conservation’s big problems to regulate for sustainability or to allow nature to take its course and starvation to control numbers… problem with latter option is the enormous destruction of habitat which has huge ramifications on other dependant species as well as the long term Changes to flora this entails.
