@@casualweekday-ytshadowbang2469well good riddance I say. We don't need police officers that don't respect the rights of civilians. There will be replacements in no time. @@casualweekday-ytshadowbang2469 And that is exactly why the Chief quit a week ago and his protection racket buddies all decided to quit a week later. Minnesota is ACTUALLY tired of big government. The rest of you people just pretend. So yeah, the courageous "defenders" of our community quit en masse, because we cut their pay/benefits and got rid of the crappy cops. For the record, they still spent the vast majority of their time sitting around doing not much of anything at all. It's not like Goodhue is a hotbed of criminal activity... even less so now that those cops are gone. Good riddance to them, with any luck no other Minnesotan community will hire them and they can move out of state and abuse someone else's citizens. Right?
@edgybarbie77
@edgybarbie77 11 ай бұрын
Yea it exposes these cops who aren't in that job to serve & protect anyone but themselves. The citizens are suffering even more here. If it is that deep they have a responsibility to the citizens to let it be known. If they are willing to put law abiding citizens at risk like this good riddance. Only now it becomes another city's problem when they get hired there.
@edgybarbie77
@edgybarbie77 11 ай бұрын
@@casualweekday-ytshadowbang2469 well they weren't defunded but might as well be. The people in these communities have been left in a high risk & vulnerable state. Your argument doesn't make sense because if anything police departments have received an increase in funding since all these "demonstrations". So lack of funding is a viable option now because it's progressively getting worse

For years our local Sheriff Department Officers were greatly underpaid, resulting after new Officers were sent thru the Academy, they left to better paying Departments. Our new Sheriff went to the Commission and explained the reason for the turnover and why officers were leaving after the County was paying thousands for the Academy just for them to leave months later. He succeeded in getting Officers a big increase in pay. Problem solved.

I checked & the population is about 1100. I agree with you, 7 officers seems like a lot for that size town. @@reubenj.cogburn8546 We voted to disband our police force of four cops, 3 years ago, in my Town of 6000... The county now patrols it every once and a while, and responds to calls. This town had 7 cops and 1000 people... This was a sheriff who created BS positions and hired family and friends to gouge the few residents. I guarantee that town needed infrastructure that they had no money for because they were being robbed by their own cops. Cops wanted more money, the town said no, they split... Good riddance.

I agree with everyone's comments: there is a major, pivotal point to this thing that's being left out. Things like this that are unanimous from the top down don't just suddenly "happen". Let's hear from the officers in the street, not from just the front office.

It was a small office, 7 people total. It would make perfect sense for them to be talking about this budget increase among themselves, and agreeing that it was not enough, and walking out. Not to mention that if a large number of them felt that way, then even if 1-2 of them were fine with it, they wouldn't want to stick around and be left holding that responsibility alone. I don't know why so many people in the comments are imagining some dark conspiracy here.

@timogul That doesn’t make any sense. If they can quit now then they can also quit when they are “left holding the bag” whatever the hell that even means in this case. If the Chief resigned then sure as heck the officers can resign if they choose to now or in the future.

It was a very small police force of 7 people in a small town of approximately 1,250. The Chief, 1 full time officer and 5 part time officers quit because of Low Pay. From what I had read it seems that this issue has been going on for quite a while and the Goodhue town council was going to discuss pay raises in it's next meeting but it was to little too late.
