Loved the deep explanation about the weight of the door and how the braces were designed to hold it. You don't normally see that on woodwork videos - really impressed you covered it

The author does like to from scratch, kzfaq.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

For You American, it’s always difficult or tricky to do good tenons, when the festool dominos isn’t in your work shop. You don’t heaven now use your hand jigsaw for assemblage like this. It’s fun for a French woodworkers see you all doing this. Still a good video :)
@KingPostTimberWorks

I'm from New Zealand. If you watch other videos you will see a great deal of hand tool work. Making tenons on the tabke saw is more accurate and much faster then doing by hand. If your trying to make a living making furniture you best find the fastest method in producing quality work.

Really enjoyed the video, thanks Joey. The longer format is fine by me, because it is good to see more detail. I found your explanation on the approval process in NZ interesting as well. Here in Queensland we did away with the council approval at the building site in favor of a system of private enterprise certifiers - minor changes to design are dealt with by them and suffice to say I have worked on sites that have never seen the certifier - I think the builder nuts it out with them over a coffee in their office ;-). I think you did a really good job in making that design as sag proof as possible, thanks again.

Beautiful door. Can't believe changing a doorframe needs a plans review! If I want to change something I just ask my wife...
@KingPostTimberWorks
@KingPostTimberWorks 5 жыл бұрын
There are 2 strong points of view for this. 1. The home owner should be able to do whatever they like. 2. Changing a door frame means changing the interaction between said frame and the building cladding and myriad other flashings. Thus if the work is done poorly it could have a serious impact on the weather tightens of the home leading to subsequent water damage internally. Should a homeowner be able to choose that risk . I think so. But this cant be so when a building authority has to sign off on the building as a whole, and be responsible for it. Without proper sign off home insurance is impossible to get also.

A very well presented description of the reactive gravity forces on the door. Structurally, the lower "X" brace is in compression and the upper "X" brace is in tension. Dominos should work along with exterior grade wood glue. Alternatively, cross-pinning the tennons with dowels would also work. I just love watching what you make. Keep going. Best - Michael

Like seeing the detail, I think a mark of a good craftsman is being able to adapt when something isn't exactly as planned (I call them an "ah shit moment") and make it look just as planned. Well done Joey. 20-30 min is perfect for this kind of build. Vid demonstrated the right amount milling, jointing, assembly and finish. No blah blah blah blah. Two questions though. First, what did you do between the doors to keep weather tight? Second, how many man hours do you think you have in this build. And of course I love the doors.
