Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

Enya is from Gweedore In Donegal in the extreme North West of Ireland. It's a "gaeltacht" region, meaning they still speak their ancient language Irish Gaelic, Donegal with the wild Atlantic to it's west coast is a place of outstanding beauty & rich history. Enya's voice is the embodiment of that deep ancient Irish soul, makes me proud to be Irish

19 years ago this played at the end of The Fellowship Of The Ring and a 28 year old man almost bawled in the cinema. I had to choke it back. Enya's phenomenal voice and music combined with the end of that truly great film is STILL as potent now.

I've been listening to Enya since 1987 and I'm still trying to find all the songs I didn't know existed. This is the 1st time I heard this tune and like so many other songs of hers, I love the pace and tranquility it brings.

When you read the books, those Hobbits went through a lot. And they didn’t even know where they were going or why. They were just supporting their friend. I always associate this song with the books and bawl my eyes out.

This song always makes me teary eyed. when i listen to this, i see the world covered in a heavy darkness consumed by the evil. but you, you keep a flame that the darkness tries so hard to put out and because you fight and you fight it has a difficult time. and right when you're about to give up, your garment filthy, you're tired from your long hard journey. your all white horse comes speedily to take you far away to a resting place where you can rejuvenate before the darkness comes again.

Even in the present time, in the year 2022, this song fits very well again. it will always be a song of hope. a song about the end of suffering. whether war or peace, this song is there and lets us pause for a moment. remind us of past atrocities, but it also lets us end with them. ❤❤❤

This is not a knock against all the other singers who participated in the soundtrack for the original LOTR trilogy...but in my opinion Enya should have been part of the soundtrack for all three movies, not just "The Fellowship Of The Ring". Her ethereal, otherworldly voice was tailor made for Tolkien's world!

Not to be against you or anything, but with respect I don’t believe your understanding in this area is based on truth, now I’m not speaking against Christopher Tolkien or Ian Holm, nor am I saying that they’re not in Heaven, but what I am saying and according to the Bible as well is that unless you have accepted Jesus to be the lord of your life and the salvation he offers, you do not get into Heaven. I Just lost my precious kitty of 16 1/2 yrs and also my mom at 96 years old. This is such a beautiful song, I am having it played when they spread my ashes . I will play it at the spreading of my moms as well. I wish it was longer but it's beautiful Enya has such a haunting voice that penetrates your soul.

As I was walking out of the auditorium in the cinema on my 21st birthday, mind blown by this film, I heard someone ahead of me say "I've been waiting my while life to see a film like that". Which is how I felt too. Grew up with my dad reading me the book. The film could so easily have been shit but they just nailed it. The soundtrack and casting and design, just amazing. The Hobbit on the other hand.. Jesus what a load of shit! Can't believe it was even the same people.

@@subspaceanomaly did I understand it wrong or you just said that The Hobbit is shit? if so, why? because I honestly read the book, I loved it and I found the movies very well made. I have also the courage to say that I liked The Hobbit saga more than LOTR. I might not appreciate that they added Tauriel and Legolas just to put a romantic vibe that wasn't needed, but besides that the saga is superb. Actors did an incredible job, the soundtrack is just as good as LOTR's, special effects are very, very cool to watch, the places depicted and built are beautiful, the story is faithful to that of the book (Peter just decided to add a few things that honestly didn't damage the story at all, and I am saying this as a lover of The Hobbit book, I read it a lot of times). A few scenes are deleted obviously but you can see them by watching the extended version of the movies, and they are beautiful and some are also touching or funny. you might don't care but I'd like to know why you consider The Hobbit saga a shit when it's, I repeat, faithful to the book (putting some things aside). I'm just curious!

@@Morgoth044 I think people who praised the LOTR trilogy to high heavens, then turned around and trashed The Hobbit films as being total crap are over-reacting in the most hyperbolic way. The main criticisms of The Hobbit, from what I can tell, are: 1. The LOTR extended editions (usually considered the best version) still had to condense/omit/change a lot of the original source material to keep the total runtime down to 11.4 hours. OTOH, the same film-makers really had to stretch the source material from The Hobbit, padding it with extra stuff from the LOTR appendices, plus make up stuff that never existed (Tauriel) for three films when one or two would have sufficed. The total runtime of the extended editions of The Hobbit trilogy is almost 9 hours. As books, the LOTR is over 1200 pages, while The Hobbit is around 300 pages long. 2. The LOTR trilogy used a lot more practical effects while on The Hobbit films, they relied a lot more (maybe too much) on CGI.

I am re-reading the book right now and I can clearly notice that a lot of stuff are different, they changed a lot, but I think they were forced to. they changed a lot of scenes and dialogues, but the only difference is that they were inserted in different ways. I noticed that Thorin too (at least at the beginning) is different from how he is described in the book (temperamentally speaking of course), but I think it's not a big problem because in many ways he is still the same Thorin. for CGI, I think they would have done the exact same thing with LOTR in the past if they could, it was just different times. from 2010 onwards the CGI has come into "force" a lot and practically everyone abused and still abuses it, they think it makes things more real in the eyes of those who watch movies. but still, if we take the entire saga of The Hobbit and don't take it for individual things, it's really nice, especially for those who haven't read the books. I can understand that instead for those who have read them a lot of factors turn up their noses, I was the first to be skeptical when I saw Tauriel and I noticed that it was only inserted to put some romance in the saga. besides all of this, some people know that Peter had a few problems when realizing this saga. lack of time mainly, so I really appreciate all the work him and his team did with all the problems they had.
