In this video today, let me share with you the Day 5 journey from Umling La Pass to Photi La Pass and then Photila Pass to Hanle and then how we enjoyed watching the sunset from Hanle Monastery top and finally spending the night in Hanle watching the night sky of Hanle Dark Sanctuary.
The route from Umling La Pass to Photi La Pass was very beautiful, especially when you cross Chisumle bridge and go towards Photila Pass. We saw Nomads of Changthang on the way and lots of pashmina sheeps.
I talk about the road conditions from Umling La to Photi La Pass, and the road conditions between Photila to Hanle as well in this video.
You will witness beautiful landscapes and magnificent views on the way to Photi La top as I embark on this offbeat Ladakh route journey.

Saturn 😍 This is amazing! Milky way, Constellations, Stars.. everything truly amazed me. Even normally I do stargazing to see some cosmic phenomena. but obviously, due to pollution, Air and light both, It's not possible to see merely stars in cities.

I too feel the same way even thought when you ride up the Nurbula Top from mud route, the short cut I took, it was I think a little more challenging even though number of challenging KMs were less in it than Photila ascend

Narration is also good. 9:07 - Lovely view of the loops. Reminded me of the Ka Loops in Spiti and Gata Loops on the Manali-Leh NH3 that I had seen in other videos. 11:55 - Awesome again! Night sky view from Hanle is fascinating. Excited to see the Milky way and Saturn.

To me Photi La seemed at much higher altitude than Umling La. Same with Kaksang La.

Yeah.. it is the gradual ascend of Umling La that makes it feel not so higher and smaller hair pins of other two passes makes them feel daunting 😀

Very informative video, Sir.. Thank you for sharing this. However, I still have some questions. Are the permits to gain access to Umling La for foreigner like me can also be processed in the Leh DC office?, or everything is now fully online?. I’m planning to start my journey from Leh

Well, AFAIK the foreigners are recently only allowed to spend over night in Hanle but going to Umling La is still I believe not allowed. Foreigners still need PAP and via Portal you can apple the permit and pay the fee. You can always get in touch with Leh based tour provider Ken +91 84510 57819, +91 866-9121640. He can help you with pap permits

Your Vlogs are really useful and have been watching recently. Would like to know how is the kargil-padum-hanle route for self driving in a jeep compass automatic petrol? A non 4x4 compass. Also would like to know whether private cabs are available from Srinigar via padum hanle to Manali.

Thanks bhai.. Well, you do not need a 4x4 anymore to do that route during the season time when there isn't much snow. Of course the high GC will always help you on that route and Jeep compass is good enough car for it. You can rent a taxi surely and do the above route. However, Srinagar taxi can only drop you so better you hire/rent taxi from Ladakh which can pick you from Srinagar, do Zanskar Valley and then Hanle and around and finally drop you to Manali.

Hi… Needed some info… 1. Can we do Kargil to Sumur/ Diskit through Khardungla in a single day? We are open to start early. 2. Wari La or Shyok which one do u prefer from Nubra to Hanle? 3. Can one do Diskit- Wari La/ Shyok- Hanle in a day? 4. How is the road from Hanle to Nyoma through Chilling Lake and Nidder? I shall be travelling in FWD SUV vehicle. We have done Padum- Linshed- Leh last year.

Here are my replies: 1. Well, distance/travel wise it may be possible but it will be very very long and tiring day and not at all recommended because after reaching high altitude you are not allowing body to acclimatize. 2. Shyok is shorter route and preferred by most. 3. Diskit to Shyok to Pangong tso to Hanle will be much shorter than Wari La route. However, it will be equally tiring and long long journey without much fun 4. Well, check the next two episodes of the video above series. I did that route on the very next day and see the next episode 10 and episode 11 will be live in evening so check that too.

How is the road from Tso Moriri.....Puga....pologongka la.....Pang Debering intersection on Leh Manali highway . Shows 3 hrs on Google. Is the road black top. Seems to be a great shortcut back to Sarchu.

Sumdo is the point where you take that short cut towards Tso Kar when coming from Tso Moriri lake.. Now for road conditions, when I travelled in September 2023, Between Sumdo and tso Moriri, about 20 kms of road was very bad before Tso Moriri.. hope they finish this season... Sumdo to Tso Kar via Pugga, most road is black top with some sections dirt track but manegable.. route if beautiful!!

Dikh sakta hai but kya aap by road August mein plan karoge? It is monsoon time in general up there in North and at some parts of Manali - Leh Highway (like before Baralacha La) and Srinagar - Leh Highway (like before Kargil) you might need to face monsoon hassles but once you get closer to Ladakh, then Ladakh being rain shadow region is least affected by monsoon rains. Landslides or slush or road blocks are pretty common in the month of monsoons but these landslides are cleared in a day or two unless there is a very major one. Again there are ALWAYS risks of traveling in mountains in the rainy season. No one can predict anything but it is a well known fact about the risks of traveling in mountains Having said that, rains does reach Ladakh nowadays but in general, it is overcast days or in form of light drizzles. I had a tentative Kumaon itinerary I wanted your thoughts on Mumbai - pant nagar Pant nagar to binsar Binsar 2 nights stay Binsar to Munsyari Munsyari 2 nights stay Munsyari to jhaltola / chaukori 1 night stay Chaukori / jhaltola to Mukteshwar - 2 nights stay. Hi, i am planning to travel with my family to Ladakh between 10th to 20th July 2024. I am travelling with my mother in law who is 70 years old. Not having health issues although. I am moving a bit slow for acclamatisation. Can i take her to Umlingla pass from Hanle?

As long as all of you are acclimatized properly and spent night in Hanle without issues, it is OK in general. Just spend as less time possible at the top as possible like dont spend more than 10-15 mins and then descend to Chisumle quickly
