I’ve told my friends what I’m doing (keto/very low carb high saturated fat diet). I’ve told them that Statins probably are not good for one and that a low fat diet is not either all the good things that keto does is contrary to what they and their doctors believe, this includes my spouse. They look at me like I just got out of a spaceship. I’m not sure of how the science works although I’m learning some but I’m extremely happy to have found Doctors like Dr. Cywes and Dr. Ken Berry with honorable mentions to Dr. Berg and Ekberg and Kelly Hogan. Most of my friends are on Statins. I’ve been on this ketogenic diet for about 6 weeks. I was diagnosed as obese and pre diabetic and a fatty liver. I have lost 24 lbs. I’ve given up on preaching and sending videos their way. If they ask me I will of course give them this channel and others but I’m not volunteering as they seem not to be interested or consider it as being quackery. My goal is to lose weight until it is in a healthy range and to wean myself from my long term medications.

My (former) Doctor brow-beat me into taking statins which slowly ate away at my health for nearly ten years. The only lifestyle change suggested was a low-fat diet, and then when that didn't do much, she insisted I go on statins "for life" and I had to promise to stay on them. No matter what. It took me all that time to understand that it was the statins that were causing many of my health problems. When I dumped them then over time discovered the reasons to be on LCHF lifestyle, my total C remained the same but my remnant C went down from 43 to 17, Trigs went down from 231 to 84, and HDL went up from 34 to 52. But LDL is still "high" and seems to cause a panic with my new doctor. I hate to go doctor shopping, but geez...

@@stefmcmc5050 Yes, it is sad that it comes to that. Many doctors see so many patients they treat us as lab rats - statistically, without keeping up on the latest info. Suppose statins really helped, well if they could browbeat 330 people into taking them, they'd prevent 10 heart attacks. You're more likely to be part of the other 320 who either weren't going to have one, or end up having on anyway.

Sigh. I'm afraid this wearying battle to fight medical ignorance in docs will go on for a while. It is frustrating. They still think keto is a fad and statins are de rigeur to lower LDL. Yeah, they lower LDL because they increase the number of receptors that uptake to the liver. But why? Only a tiny fraction of LDL is a concern. The rest is good. Statins can damage muscle tissue - and guess what? The heart is a muscle. Ouch.

This message is one of the few systemic views of indivdual measures of biomarkers. Implicit is the hint of the complexity, interactivity, and adaptability of the systems whose indicators are measures. If only there was an easy way to get people to think more deeply about these issues (and more generally), connect the dots, and then talk about the best way to connect them. The lampost paradigm (take a pill to change the biomarker) just does not work in complex interconnected adaptive systems.

I could be wrong because I can't know what goes on in my doc's head. But it seems to me that what she does is rely on her computer to alert her when one of my numbers is outside of what the system considers to be the normal range. After my last blood test I gathered all my numbers for the last three years and looked everything up. I was definitely prediabetic a year+ ago, but she never told me that. And my liver and kidney values (eGFR, Creatine...) were probably not showing red on her screen, but were at the edges of normal almost abnormal. After having been keto for about 9 months at my last blood tests all my numbers were much better. I couldn't interest her in any of them because she only cared about my ldl. And of course she wanted to give me a prescription to which of course I said no thanks. Also my thyroid values are much better and she has to significantly lower my dose of medicine. I lost 45 lbs. And as I mentioned in a post to another video, I think a nerve damage issue I have had for many years is improving. But she wasn't interested in that. Just the LDL. That is fine. I understand that is what the medical profession pretty much has to be. Docs have to conform to a standard or lose their license. But someday I will have a real medical issue and will likely not completely trust my doc's opinion.
@CelineNoyce
@CelineNoyce 3 жыл бұрын
Many people I know never get their actual results and believe "normal" is all they need to hear. That is terrifying to me. Recently my WBC dropped substantially but it is still normal. My docs don't care... but I do... your body should not drop from X level to Y level consistently without a cause. I have had to do all the research on this. I feel like doctors need to be split into two different subtypes... a doctor you see when you have something massively wrong, and a doctor you see to keep you in good shape.
@sportysbusiness
@sportysbusiness 3 жыл бұрын
@@CelineNoyce alternatively, you see the doctor to get the test, then use Dr google to find out what to do with the results. The training doctors get is to prescribe drugs to treat symptoms, they are deliberately NOT trained to cure you. Your doctor will lose their licence for giving you just about any advice that works. I have zero trust in my doctor after I've cured so many health issued by doing the complete opposite of what they advised. Very sad, some of my best friends are doctors, most are so completely brainwashed they are unable to objectively look at evidence that they're wrong.

I have been told by every doctor I have seen that I had normal bloodwork at ALL my yearly exams all my life..my BP is always 70/110..yet I am 56 yrs old , I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16, and have been 80 pounds overweight a few times for several years. I have had some digestive issues since my gallbladder was removed 20 years ago.. Mainly I have figured out there are certain foods I can't eat anymore like Raw nuts, Melons, and avacado...bloating occurs to the point of me not being able to breathe! I went to specialist to try and find out what was wrong. The specialist did scans, blood tests, colonoscopies, suggested a "diet that reduces gas" which made my symptoms worse....and the end result was them telling me they couldn't find anything wrong so I should just pay attention to my own body and basically try not to piss it off.... well thanks for that great advice I thought. However dispite that ..I have a good immune system, don't get sick, haven't had even a cold in many years. My GPs all seem clueless about obesity other than to suggest" reducing some carbs and increase exercise". None of them have ever mentioned insulin resistance!! I've been told several times that I am not to pre diabetic which I find kind of ridiculous but I'm not a doctor ...so I get frustrated with doctors. When I was told that I had PCOS I was also told that "PCOS will make you fat and there's not really anything you can do about that but try to cut your calories way down and join weight watchers for the rest of your life".... which just lowered my metabolism way down... So now I'm obese with a really slow metabolism Gee thanks doc... I don't care what those useless "normal range" tests say...as far as I am concerned being 80 lbs overweight is not healthy. I have switched to very low carb green veggies, no sugar or grains , only healthy fats , protien and am doing a mix of OMAD , 2MAD, 36 or 42 hr fasting. But making sure I eat Progress is Happening slowly..lost 20 lbs since December... I don't expect it to go any faster and I'm really happy it's going in the right direction how really more concerned about dealing with this lifetime of Insulin resistance that no doctor I've ever seen in person has ever known anything about. I am very grateful to you and your advice and appreciate your channel very much.

Thank you for this. I still have my doctor but I make provisions each year to get my own blood test at Ulta Labs. You should dedicate a video to blood tests that the general public doesn't know about but is important. My health savings account will pay for them (but fyi they are much cheaper than if I go through my doctor). So I get them frequently (like every four months). IMHO the CBC is the most important. It tells me the most about my health. (and it is very cheap) I also get the GGT test, not sure you mentioned it here, but it really opened my eyes that even though the liver tests that my doctor was doing said the liver was fine, it was not. Recently I also got IGF-1 and I was pretty happy with my result when I was fasting.

@@valbrenneman9071 fantastic. I think maybe they are sensing that something is up, the ground is shifting. My own doc laughed and said "no fear of that, I just make a note" when I said "I know you have to say the standard things and we don't want you getting struck off for approving a fad diet (ie carnivore), but no way I'd take a statin". 😊

I really wish you or a Dr Berry could be my PCP. My Doc doesn't mind me doing keto, but she still has me on meds (I have debated the cholesterol thing with many of my docs). I looked for keto friendly docs in my area and came up with a big fat zero...which surprised me since I live in a fairly large city. I want to send this video to all of my docs 🤣 I just found your videos and I have been binge watching them.

I work in the health field and I've never in my life seen or heard a dr speak in an honest way about treating the issue as opposed to the pill shaped bandaid. Before watching your videos, I myself held the idea that many people would rather take a pill or shot as opposed to fixing the issue that results in the health problem. My first hand experience involves UC. I was dx 4 years ago and a the behest of my gastroenterologists recommendations have taken so many different medications to try and get it under control, but not once did he offer me an explanation on what to try or how to stop it outside of meds. Because of my preconceived notions of personal responsibility in guiding our own health I've tried pretty much everything imaginable on my end based on anything I could find from elimination diets , lasers, suppliments, probiotics, medications, fasting, and exercise. I've seen drs, nurse practitioners, iridologists, and naturopathic drs, and spoken with other UC patients. I started carnivore 9 days ago because of you , dr Berry and dr Baker and each day since I've started I have improved more then any other treatment modality. It's amazing, ulmist unbelievable. So thank you for what you do. I wish I could have my blood work analyzed by you but I'm up in Canada still. If I ever make my way down to Florida, which seems unlikely with the mandates for travel, I will make a point of coming to see you. Thank you for what you've done, for me and so many other people.

Three acquaintances of mine - all males 58-63, all on statins for many years, all doubtless have metabolic syndrome - all ran into trouble in past six months. One got 1200 CAC score, quickly got bypass. One got 600 score. One dropped dead just prior to scheduled bypass. Like I said, all on statins for many years.

@@robertcywes2966 I felt the rage too. The one who dropped dead - a good friend I'd been trying unsuccessfully to convince to go low carb - did so at the Mayo lobby exit. He'd shown up for his scheduled bypass, there was a scheduling issue, they rescheduled and sent him home, he was stricken and died there waiting for his ride. For real.

Cholesterol is very poorly correlated with heart disease, half of all heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol. The real causes of heart disease are high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and smoking. So the biggest benefit is from lifestyle changes, but Doctors are trained to treat with medicine (highly profitable pills). Doctors focus on reducing cholesterol and prescribe statins, even though most will suffer harmful side effects - muscle pain and diabetes (which increases heart attack risk!)

Thank you Dr., for informative video. I have hypothyroidism and low B12, have asked Dr. many questions on my conditions. I knew the answers, but he is totally in the dark about cyancobalimin and methylcobalimin. Hence my naturopath gives me the latter. I know he hates when I go to his office because I inform him (nicely) of what Ive learned. Of course he has an answer about that. Anyway, your video made alot of sense to me and some I already knew but was good to get a refresher. I also was on Crestor, but took myself off and told him, he was not happy. I started my keto/carnivore diet about 5 weeks ago. I have called my doctor and told him I have started this diet and Since I was on light meds, lisinopril 20mg ,20 mg , simvastin, and metphormin 500 mg 3xdaily. I stop them I will be having my blood work checked after being on the diet after being on the diet for about 2 months to see how I am doing If my insurance will pay for your visit, blood work and phone consul I will check in

I've lost 55lbs (241->186) in the last year using LCHF and IF, with minimal increase in physical activity. Doc prescribed statins last year when my total cholesterol was 210. This year it's 310 total and was taken 36 hours into a fast. HDL 60, TG 88, VLDL 18, LDL 232. Glucose was 73 (marked as low), White blood cell was 3.4 (low) and TSH was 0.41 (low). The WBC/inflammation link makes total sense now and I don't get sick, even with 4 kids in the house. This year he actually submitted the statin to the pharmacy without talking to me, and he knew I was on a fast and my bloodwork supports that.

What would be the cost to evaluate my recent labs? My Endocrinologist loved most of my numbers but, just skipped over others I thought needed some answers to. I am in the Philippines but, willing to pay for REAL answers. Been Ketovore for 4 months and she was unaware since my last visit. When I told here KETO, she said, "Oh no, not that, that is bad!" Shit...not the response you want from a trusted doctor who just told me my numbers were great.
